    I/O psychology, anyone?

He did research on organizational structures as far as I can remember. I didn't ask too many questions, because I'm not interested in that at all. He also did program evaluations post-hoc, and I remember him saying he didn't like them. Do you want to be a professor of psychology?

    I/O psychology, anyone?

The professor who taught my first methods course was a retired I/O psychologist who ran a VERY successful consulting firm, made a lot of money, then went and got a job at my university as a lecturer. I think to do well in it you need to have a Ph.D and produce original research, but that's just...

    I/O psychology, anyone?

One of my colleagues in a lab I worked in is going into I/O. It's not something that interests me personally, but it's probably the best way to make money with psychology. I took a class in human factors a few years ago and it was mind-numbingly boring.

Best places to visit in the U.K.

This TOTALLY doesn't mesh with my experiences in London. I've found Londoners (well, moreso the residents of cities surrounding London) to be some of the most intolerant and aggressive people of anywhere I've ever been, at least at night. There's a lot more random racially motivated youth...

Is It Scientifically Impossible For Some Of Us To Change?Saw Sumthin Interestin..

Right, and the majority of that data suggests that there's a SLIGHT decline in second-language-learning ability as you age, not the massive dropoff that is commonly believed.

Is It Scientifically Impossible For Some Of Us To Change?Saw Sumthin Interestin..

This was true ten or fifteen years ago, but recent research indicates that this is false. It implies a lack of neural plasticity which simply isn't there. Your brain is constantly changing. And while there's evidence of a "critical period" for language development in songbirds, the only evidence...

    Football - Where to start?

Soccer is the most popular sport for children in the USA, so it's a bit of a stretch to say that 90% of Americans have never touched a ball in their lives. We just happen to have well-established American sports that most children go into as they age. Soccer has plenty of strategy, just as...

Student gets tazed for not having id...

Hahaha. There are a lot of personal insults being thrown around here.. Does anyone ever think about why internet arguments get so much more heated and angry than face-to-face arguments? It's very interesting to me.

Student gets tazed for not having id...

I'm not a neurologist, but I think a "spot" shock to the spinal column, like was adminstered to dude when he jumped in his handcuffs, could have a different, more incapacitating effect than, say, a shock to the thigh.

You wouldn't scream if you were Tased four or five times? Have you ever been Tased?

Student gets tazed for not having id...

At least 167 deaths in the last 6 years is quite a lot for an almost-never lethal weapon. This kid's gonna get a massive settlement, and he deserves it. A Taser shouldn't be used for coercive purposes. Violence for coercive purposes is called torture.

    Looking for a breeder site

I'm coming from a perspective where I love animals and don't believe that any of them are "worthless" or that any "should be euthanized". I also believe that an owner can provide the training that a dog from a shelter needs, and that any owner that can't provide it or is unwilling to put in that...

    Looking for a breeder site

What you've heard about "weak hips" (called hip dysplasia) is at least doubly true of purebred dogs. It's become a major problem in the last 10-20 years due to the demand for purebred dogs, which results in unsafe breeding practices. Mongrel puppies aren't any worse-behaved or less healthy, on...

    Looking for a breeder site

He's right about rescuing dogs though. There's no reason to buy a dog from a breeder when thousands of dogs are sitting in shelters waiting to be loved or euthanized. Also, where do you live? You need a lot of space for a large dog, and it's totally irresponsible to have a dog like a German...

Why Didn't This Make Headline News?

I'll jump in and add something to seanchai's IAT info: The implicit association test reveals implicit bias by asking Ss to place, as quickly as they can, first faces into categories of "Black American or European American" then words into "Good or Bad" then faces or words into "European...

    Football is overrated

What bothers me about the analysis is that it's not analysis: it's just the same five or six guys saying the same surface things + cliches over and over again for five days. They don't KNOW anything and they don't ever say anything worthwhile.
