You DID hit his sister, accident or not, then you provoked him into attacking you? From the sound of it, there wasn't a fight until you provoked one, so unless I've got that wrong, I don't see it as self-defense. Walking around looking for a fight is what AFCs do.
The other thing about those exit polls is that they indicated that a lot of people lie on exit polls in a classic example of "social desirability bias". Many more people ACTUALLY voted for Bush than said they did when asked, which makes me question any of the data from exit polls in the 2004...
Hockey is tough. It's a sport for which I have a lot of respect.
Another sport that's tough and probably underrated around most of the country is water polo. At least in football and hockey you get to be standing up rather than trying not to drown or be drowned by the other team.
seanchai was a competitive swimmer for nine years. I myself was an All-American (100 breast) in swimming in high school.
If anything, swimming gets TOO MUCH respect.
Parisien, I'm curious what your degree is in and what you do. You seem to see university as a sort of "pre-professional degree factory," which it doesn't have to be at all. There's legitimacy in many higher degrees, including library science, and not every course of study has to be financially...
Childbirth should make women lower than men? Unless you're talking specifically about wages, which I'm not, I don't follow. In my estimation, the extra work women do in carrying on genes should make them more valuable than men, not that I'm advocating a gynecentric society.
To bring all this...
The issue isn't that men didn't develop Western civilization, it's that women haven't been held to be equal with men in the majority of cultures since ancient times. Can you think of a reasonable argument for why women shouldn't be considered equal with men? I can't.
In the same vein:
If it wasn't for whites, civilization wouldn't even exist and blacks would still be stuck in caves right now trying not to get eaten by large predators. Surely, we would not be typing away on the internet...all of this technology being invented by whites.
Whites didn't...
It seems to me that a lot of the men on this site hate women in the way that "feminists hate men". But they don't see the hypocrisy, instead labeling it "be a man" or "Don Juanism". Feminism is not the problem, or even a problem at all.
Can't you see how saying women are incapable is plain...
You can frequently get Kiton and Brioni suits for between $300 and $500 on eBay, for instance, both of which are paragons of RTW suits in terms of quality and fit. The only problem with these is that you have to wait for the deals to appear, and you have to be willing to look hard for them. If...
Men's Wearhouse suits are poor-fitting and poor quality for a price that could be beat by better quality, better fitting suits just by looking around. I'm not sure the things that matter to seanchai and I, stylewise, matter to everyone here, though.
I'm in the same boat as you. I love social psych research, but a Ph.D in it only really prepares you to be a professor. There aren't that many jobs out there for Ph.Ds in research psychology outside of academia, so professorship here I come!
