Okay, I have become very interested in learning more about football (the football the rest of the world knows, not American football), but I don't know where to start. Can anyone help me out by sharing some websites or posting some links of websites with videos, or just a rundown of how the sport is played? Thanks

Your profile says you're in Kansas. In the US, we call it soccer. And check out about.com, they have information about everything.

Ah, the beautiful game, where a loose thread of cotton constitutes an injury. At least you guys aren't wearing pads and helmets

I'll go watch some rugby now, before someone gives me a verbal drilling.

Who told you that it was called "football"? That doesn't mean anything in most countries. Example, Italians call it "calcio". In much of the Balkas it is called, "Nogomet". Just depends where you live. If you are an American you call it soccer. Nothing wrong with calling it soccer. Why do you want to sound British? British men are as screwed up as American men. Just browse this board if you don't believe me.

Best thing about it is that you rarely see females at the games. The British of course lug their uglies to the games. Hell, British soccer resembles the NBA these days more than it resembles what is seen on the Continent. Same goes for German soccer. Boring as hell.

Russians as usual are about as primitive as you will get in Europe/Asia. Might be why I love them so.

Won't see this sort of celebration after a boring American contest. I can imagine all the flip-flop wearing pansies running for their lives.

Good lad, you've got the right idea. The general consensus is that the most exciting league is the English Premiership and the most technically skilled is the Spanish followed by the Italian. Best teams in the world to watch on a regular basis are Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Lyons...In fact, just watch the Champions League if you can get it in Kansas, if not, you can get the highlights on YouTube.

Because, in this case, if he says 'football' anywhere in the world outside America people will know immediately what he means. Idiot.

Definately a candidate! He should have won the award at least once by now! This December may be his time!

Well thats intresting you crooked-toothed british douche, but he lives in america and last time i checked if you say football to an american they are quite a bit more likely to think of the american version. Not to mention that football is an english word and most countries that are "anywhere in the world outside of america" don't speak it. Plus soccer sucks.

This is so sad. A bunch of people fighting on the internet. I hope this makes the idiots who are posting such stupid replies feel good about themselves, because the way some of you are acting you seem like you need a little excitement in your otherwise pitiful lives. You know, fighting on the internet is a lot like the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded. Save for a few of the people who replied, the responses have been an exibition of childish behavior.

Does anyone have anything useful to say on this thread?

Americans are too sophisticated for a primitive, non-strategic game like soccer. Its like the rest of the world hasnt evolved out of soccer. There are sports far more strategic and exciting. How many goals were scored in the world cup championship? 1? The players fall like woman when they arent even touched, scream and holler like they tore BOTH ACLs are carted off teh field and walk back on teh field 2 minutes later. Bunch of pansies. Did I mention tehre's no strategy? NONE. Soccer fans will get on here and shout and scream that there is strategy, but there's not. You have like 15 guys standing between you and the goal, you cant use your hands, and you cant run behind the defense into their territory or else you are offsides.

Welcome to the 21st century, football is the sport of gods. Not because its Americas sport, but because it is in everyway better than soccer.

Just wondering, why do Americans seem to hate soccer so much, and talk about how great American football is, despite the fact that 90% of Americans have never touched a ball in their lives, and usually just watch it on TV?

However if you guys judge a sport by the brutality, why not try some rock climbing, or caving? We've had more deaths/disappearances in our caving club than the entire US football league. In fact, just a few months ago, we had another guy killed by a rockslide in California.

Soccer is the most popular sport for children in the USA, so it's a bit of a stretch to say that 90% of Americans have never touched a ball in their lives. We just happen to have well-established American sports that most children go into as they age.

Soccer has plenty of strategy, just as all team sports do. It just happens to be really difficult to see, but it's an interesting sport to watch nonetheless, especially if you're willing to get into it. I don't pay that much attention to it, as I prefer my sports to be even less exciting than soccer, i.e. baseball.
