Congrats on the squat PR and good to see your deadlifting now. How are they feeling?

As far as a powerlifting meet, is it a actual meet like USAPL,APA,APF... is it Multiply, Single ply or Raw?

Or is it just some friendly competition between co-workers?

Either way your first attempt should be something fairly easy - something you can do for a triple. Your second attempt can be your current gym max and if you want to take the third attempt you can aim for a PR.

Don't worry too much about singles and PR's. Save that for competition.
You mainly want to build strength in the gym and then test your strength on the platform or at the end of the month or cycle. Just my 2 cents.

I'm not gonna argue here because I've never competed, and don't plan to, but just asking, wouldn't it be beneficial to do a max test every week or two? I would think that it would be good for the nervous system to get used to handling heavy (maximal) weight.

You essentially upped your VALUE in her eyes by showing her that, if she wants you, she has to at times do things that you like to do. You are SOMETHING after all. You are NOT FREE. If she wants to hang with you, it's going to cost her something — time, effort, money.

Sorry Switch, don't mean to "Hijack"

I think its okay to test your max here and there and add some singles to get use to heavier weight. Though its always good to get some rep work in to build up some strength to build upon reaching that new 1RM. I hear some strength coaches say you can loose strength working at 90% or above for two - three weeks in a row... Food for thought

Haha I guess that's my fault.

And that bold part makes sense now that I think about it...it could be the reason why I'm at a plateau as far as 1RM on bench for the last 2 weeks, although my rep work has certainly been steadily improving with no signs of slowing.
