Wii or XBOX 360?

Unless you absolutely MUST have Halo 3, PS3 hands down. Main reason why? One (hyphenated) word: Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray is now the future of movies, and the DVD will go the way of the dinosaur sooner than you think. The PS3's Blu-Ray player is actually being hailed as slightly better quality and more reliable than standalone Blu-Ray players, so you're really getting your money's worth there.

The 360 is officially obsolete with now defunct HD-DVD format, and is the least reliable of the 3 systems. Unless you have a ton of money (and time), I'd write off the Wii as little more than a novelty with few killer app games.

XBox 360 reaches 10 million U.S. sales before Wii or PS3

Perhaps you shouldn't reflect so far back to whichever sources you're getting your "steamrolled" numbers from. Want to talk about which has the largest online gaming community?

I will say that the Wii has an interesting group of enthusiast. It suits them well.

http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/23/nintendos-wii-a-hit-with-the-geriatric-set/

Hah.
Sorry i'm not American, I didn't realise you guys were so far behind. 360 came out over a year before Wii and got a big headstart, but Wii has pretty much made that entire period into nothing now. Wii is the fastest selling gaming system in history, in every territory. (taking the crown from the DS, which took it from the PS2) Check last months US sales to get up to date

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/april-npd-gta-iv-mario-kart-wii-race-to-the-top/

Wii: 714,200
DS: 414,800
PSP: 192,700
Xbox 360: 188,000
PS3: 187,100
PS2: 124,400

It's over. This is all despite Wii selling out month after month. Since launch, in 2006. And also this data comes from the month of the launch of the biggest game the 360 will EVER get, GTA4. Companies are now dropping the "next generation" high cost low profit bombs like cold chips.

Looking at THE WORLD, Wii has about a 10 million LEAD on Xbox 360.

The games are fun no doubt but don't do anything to advance gaming like oh say Ninja Gaiden II, GTA IV, Halo 3, Mass Effect and Oblivion do and they're not as fun as the more advanced 360 games either.
Give me more interaction anyday. Innovative new games like Boom Blox, Lost Winds and No More Heroes are doing way more to advance gaming than all those carbon copy sequels with extra shine and brown. Like you said it's all about fun, who cares. And there's something wrong with you if you think cutting people up is mature, LOL.

It's amazing to watch what Nintendo has become, nothing can stand in their way. It's like a tsunami. I accepted this a long time ago, not only that Wii is where all the best games are at, but in the future it's where ALL the games will be at. Sell your 360s while you can, I got a nice bit of dough for mine. Actually, make sure you play GTA4 first.

The Wii has some very good games, but it looks like it will never have those blockbuster games. By that I mean the games that like Halo, GTA4, and MGS4 that have these huge budgets that make a crap ton of money. Of the top of my head I could name four or five blockbuster games that are coming out for the PS3 or 360. The Wii is a great system to play with friends, but it needs those blockbuster titles. There are only so many Nintendo made games I can play beacause I'm seriously getting sick of the Mario franchise.

As far as innovation goes have you seen LBP for the PS3? Innovation is more than just how one interacts with a game. Innovation is the gameplay mechanics, A.I., lighting, textures, engines, etc... Have you seen the lighting in Killzone 2? I mean that lighting is absolutely stunning. The textures and A.I. could use some work, but I have never seen lighting like that in a game. To me thats innovation. What the developers can do with these new engines. Although the Wii does have an innovative controller few games really pull it off. Also those carbon copies that you are talking about are doing more to advance gaming than you give them credit for.

Oh and on another note I played some of NMH and was surprised it sold so poorly. That is probably one of the top three Wii games. Also how can you not think that chopipng off limbs is not fun. Seriously some of the things you can do in NG2 or GTA4 are really fun.

Ohh yeah the funniest thing about your argument if you want to call it that is the Wii's biggest games. If you say the PS3 and 360 games are carbon copies with more shine it also is the case with the Wii. Let's take a look at the Wii's biggest games. The Wii's biggest games are as follows SSBB, Mario Galaxy, Twilight princess, Metroid Prime, Mario Kart, and for kicks I will throw in Wii fit (in no particular order). Out of six games five of them are sequals. So what exactly were you trying to tell us about carbon copies.

Edited for spelling mistakes couldn't spell twilight right XD

You do bring up a good point. Prices are inflated in other countries and the most affordable unit is the Wii. The production cost is much lower since its architecture isn't near as robust as the PS3 or the Xbox. That allows more people with less disposable income afford a game machine, no matter how lacking it is in power or popular games.

One thing to note is that the totals you posted were just from one month of sales. Even though the Wii has sold more units than the others for several months, they are still playing catch up because of it's late release as you stated but also because Microsoft has not been able to keep up with the demand for units. Heaven forbid they had their manufacturing problems ironed out. It would be great if they could keep up the number of units with the numbers they are generating from games like Gears of War, Halo, GTA etc. By the way, how's that little guy Link doing?

Thats a really good point. It was also extremely good marketing on the part of Nintendo. I can still remember the "Wii would like to play comercials". They went after a specific market the casuals, and it has worked like a charm. The casual market has always been the hardest to attract. The formula was like this, easy to use motion controller + cheap price point + great marketing = Nintendo laughing to the bank. The commercials were a great way to show anyone could pick up a Wii and play regardless of age/sex. Ohh that is also the biggest problem facing the PS3. The PS3 high price point has made it difficult for Sony, but the achieved what they wanted for BD. It seemed like everyone won in some sort of way. Microsoft won by gaining some of the market, Sony with the victory of BD, and Nintendo which could practically print its own money between the DS and the Wii.

Intelligent replies! Amazing, thanks! As far as my "same old" vs "something new" argument, sequels probably wasn't the best word. Besides Zelda Twilight Princess and Brawl, which basically could have been on any system, the rest have more advancements than simply more polygons, better textures, and higher resolution, due to the nature of the console itself. Wii Fit, Sports, the "Mii" generation of games are basically the biggest thing on the system, and Wii Music is gonna be next (think Guitar Hero is big? this will explode). There's a new proper Wii Zelda in the making and I can't wait to see that (Twilight Princess was built for GameCube). It also leads to another of my points which is, this is just the beginning. Nintendo has been swamped with consumers and have been very busy the past year making bigger factories. They themselves never expected Wii to take off so much.

Also those one month of sales, it's the same every month basically, that's just the most recent. http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php lots more good data here. Those 360 "shortage" claims also seem very bogus to me. Wii also can't keep up with demand and it's selling more than triple the amount monthly.

Sonys "Bluray victory" also makes me laugh, because since HD-DVD was phased out Bluray sales have actually gone DOWN. There's no market for it now, and by the time there is in the future, I suspect a much better alternative will be available. A jump consumers will get behind. Think of the move from VHS and DVD, that was massive. Huge difference there. Bluray there isnt much difference. It's going to be forgotten in a few years. Like UMD. What's UMD? Exactly.
Also how can you not think that chopipng off limbs is not fun. Seriously some of the things you can do in NG2 or GTA4 are really fun.
I never said it couldn't be fun, I was commenting on how that poster was crying about "baby games" on Wii while trying to feel like a man hacking someone to pieces. Reeks of insecurity. I love GTA.

It's great to see someone else who's played No More Heroes too. It sold poorly because nobody has heard of it since it got no marketing. But also it still managed to make the developers a huge profit, so much that they threw a huge party in Europe. MGS4 is going to have to sell over a million to make any money at all, the development costs are through the roof. This is the reason developers are gravitating towards Wii.

I never said hacking off limbs was "mature" I basically conveyed that its a lot more compelling than putting your pointer over a Mii's nose in Wii play and pressing A so the Mii shakes its head in an extremely infantile manner.

You hardcore Nintendo fans are very similar to the creepy religious zealots either Christian or Muslim with the way you guys run damage control over every stupid or sh!tty thing Nintendo does.

Everything Nintendo does is good as far as Nintendo fanboys are concerned.

If they wanted to release only sh!t in a box and say its a game for Wii you guys literally would be saying how thats an innovative idea and totally makes sense and just what the gaming world needed at the time.

Scary the levels of insane damage control you guys will go to in a vain effort to try and make your company of choice look good when they do bad things such as not planning to avert a gaming drought of quality games or make horrible infantile games in mass quantities because they know their moronic fanbase is so insanely loyal you all will literally buy anything Nintendo puts out.

With all the rabid blind loyalty I'm surprised Nintendo didn't take the opportunity to cash in on you fools by making Wii Sports come seperate and at a full $60 price range.

I'll say one good thing about Nintendo and that is this...

That SNES they made long ago sure was good and had some great games and I say that because this is where all the rabid zealotry fanbase crap started.

Only problem is ever since SNES the sane gaming populace has been waiting for them to return to form and start making awesome systems and games again. Which is pretty much why that sane populace has moved on to PS3 and Xbox 360. They're tired of waiting basically.

BD is blu-ray

Well since I only have a short amount of time I will try to respond as best as I can. So according to CEA (consumer electronics association) HD reached 30% saturation is U.S. home, but the majority still watch standard definition. That was either June or April last year. So if that was last year before the holiday season what would the numbers be now? I can't get the current numbers, but I am sure they are close to 40%. I just read that HD adoption jumped 25% over the holiday season. So it should be close to 40%. Well it would be safe to assume that it will jump another 20-25% over this coming holiday.

Now why is this important? Well last year If I look at it objectively the PS3 had one must buy game during the holiday season (Uncharted fing awesome, maybe even Wowhawk). This year it looks like they should have at least three (Little Big Planet, Motorstorm 2, Resistance 2). This is important because it will sell more PS3's. Naturally for every PS3 sold another BD player is sold. That means more people who are willing to go HD.

The biggest problem Sony faces with HD adoption is it is more of a commitment to go HD. To go HD you have to have an HD player, receiver, TV, cables, etc... All of these cost money especially the TV and BD player. Well Sony can get both the player and TV out this holiday season with bundles. (I say this because there is already a precedent for this) That is the most logical thing to do if you want HD adoption to go up. Sony can kill two birds with one stone. Also Sony will most likely drop the price the PS3 making it even cheaper. Already the PS3 is one of the best BD players dropping it another hundred dollars this holiday would make it the best BD player option IMO.

Although Sony has a large stake in Blu-ray it is not the only one. People seem to forget that the BDA is comprised of more than just Sony. For example, Apple Computer, Inc., Dell Inc., Hewlett Packard Company, Hitachi, Ltd., LG Electronics Inc., Matsu****a Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Pioneer Corporation, Royal Philips Electronics, Samsung Electronics Co., Sharp Corporation, Sun Microsystems, Inc., TDK Corporation, Thomson Multimedia, Twentieth Century Fox, Walt Disney Pictures, Warner Bros. Entertainment

Every one of those companies is all part of the BDA. Some make players, but all have one thing in common they want to make money like any other business. Do you think Samsung is just going to let the PS3 become the cheapest BD player? Every company who makes BD player are going to try to make the cheapest BD players to maximize profits. That means competition which will breed cheaper prices. This is all IMO, but it seems like the logical step for Sony.

When you say that in the future there will be a better alternative you are most likely speaking about M$ and DD. Digital distribution is getting pushed hard by M$ because that will most likely be the next alternative. There is a huge problem with DD though. It is actually really simple it is internet connection speed. On average the ICS in the U.S. is 1.9 megabits per second, but compare that to Japan where it is about 61 megabits per second. The problem with DD is the connection speeds are too slow especially with HD content. With HD content you are looking at 6-10 GB of info or possibly even more. I also read that some companies are going to cap how much you can download, or start making you pay for however many GB you download. So DD seems even farther away.

Although you make think that Blu-ray will be forgotten in a few years it is highly unlikely. Although I do agree with you it will take time before BD can make an impact. Ohh and I focused on the U.S. because that is where I live, and it happens to be the largest market for video games. Also if you believe that MGS4 won't sell a million copies you must be out of your mind. Each MGS game has sold at least 3 million.

Wow, well said.

HD is taking over EVERYTHING. TV's, TV shows, entire channels, video games, and especially...movies. People don't resist technology that is bigger, better, and more expensive anymore. They CRAVE it. To believe otherwise is just naive.

Nice way of explaining Sojourn but please write out what the different abbreviations mean at least once. For example Digital distribution (DD)

I don't have a clue what these are; LBP, NG2, BD, BDA, CEA and R2.

I've been an avid gamer for a long time and I currently own a PS3 and a Wii. After playing the Wii I've come to the conclusion that Nintendo should stop making consoles and focus only making games, like Sega has done. The ONLY thing the Wii has going for it is it's controller. Hardware wise the Wii is a dinosaur. It seems to be a tiny bit more powerful than the PS2. In an age of HD the damn thing only supports up to 480p WTF?

Another way to look at the Wii's situation is it's games. What are the top games for the systems? Zelda: Twilight Princes, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart. What do they all have in common? They are all Nintendo developed.

Imagine if those games were on the PS3 or the 360. The graphics and sound will be twice as good, dynamic lighting and shaders and everything else that I'm not aware of. I would love to play Zelda or Metroid in 1080p, they would look so amazing.

IMO the gaming world would be much better off if Nintendo just made the Wii-mote for the other systems.

My bad Maxtro I'm just used to posting in other gaming forums. Sorry fellas I'm just a slow typist so it is easier to do abbreviations

LBP Little Big Planet
NG2 Ninja Gaiden 2
BD is Blu-ray (i think its blu-ray disk or something, but I use it as blu-ray much easier for me)
BDA Blu-ray Disk Association
R2 Resistance 2 (Gameplay footage comin in like 2 days on Spike TV in US)
CEA consumer electronics association ( I just fed up on this one meant to put it in)

Ohh and if you are a PS3 fan and don't know that MGS4 is Metal Gear Solid 4 go kill yourself.

First part I agree second completly disagree. It's good that the Nintendo made the Wii. It forces M$ and Sony to look at things differently, but its like a double edge sword you don't want those crapy shovelware for the Wii. Now for the first part that is why I said Nintendo is laughing to the bank. Third prty developers don't really make money cause it's hard to get hits with casuals. Metroid, Zelda, MArio, etc.. are well know even to casuals so all Nintendo has to do is keep making those games.

Third parties just barely make any money on the Wii look at No More Heroes arguably the best game on the Wii only sold 320,000 on the Wii lets compare that to another third party from a different system. Take a look at Call of Duty 4 for the PS3 and 360 together it sold more than 9,430,000 copies again from vgchartz. If you are a third party dev what would you do? You take the hit of money it would cost on an HD system because the profit are not even close if you make it on the Wii. (that is if you are a mid size third party developing team. For small developing teams IDK best bet 360 cause it's cheaper if its a hardcore game)

Now you say why am I using the best third party game ok then look at Mass Effect, Bioshock, or MGS4 (although personally I don't consider Konami third party devs, but they are textbook defenition of third party devs) ME made sold over 5 mil and Bioshock sold over 3 (I thinkto lazy to look at VGchartz please correct me if I'm wrong), and obviously Sony's baby MGS4 will sell over 3 mil (MGS4 is just my opinion I could be wrong, but I find that highly doubtful)

It's called sixaxis and it is currently implemented on the PS3, but badly if I want to tell you the truth. Now if they can start using ways to really find a good way to implement them in games maybe it will take off. Personally I want to see if Home is going to be as bug as Sony wants it to be. If Home takes off both M$ and Nintendo would need to worry. If it flops I really don't think Sony could recover from the embarassment IMO.

Funny thing I want to tell you guys my PS3 broke a week ago, and my warranty is up. Pretty funny huh. Well funier than that is that currently I don't have a job XD.

I like the Wii it's great for what it does, but seriously can the Wii ever be able to do this,

The gifs don't do Killzone 2 justice watch the direct gameplay feed in gamtrailers. Can't wait for this one to come out. I was severly dissapointed when this got delayed to Feb 08, but man I'm so damed excited about his one.

Thanks for the meanings Sojourn, a few of them were close to what I thought they were :p And of course I know what MGS4 stands for, that's why I didn't list it. Heck just as I type this the credits for MGS2 are playing. It's my second playthrough since the game came out, I'm giving my self a refresher before 4 comes out.

I wonder how necessary a third console maker really is. Back in the old days it was just Nintendo and Sega. True there were some other systems but their market share was a joke.

If the Wii didn't exist I still think that Sony and Microsoft would still be competing as hard as they can with each other. It is true though that the Wii is the best thing to happen to Nintendo in a long time. They've made tons of money.

I hadn't considered the idea of shovelwear. I guess without the Wii around there would be a lot less crappy games :D

The sixaxis is a poor excuse for a Wii-mote. I've played very few games that use sixaxis functionality and they even use it sparingly. What I was talking about is black Wii-mote and nunchuck that was made for the PS3.

If the Wii didn't have the wii-mote, it would be nothing but a Gamecube 2.0. The waggle, saved Nintendo's hardware dreams.

And yes Killzone 2 looks insane.

HAHAHAHAHAhAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Ohh man out of all this ...THIS was the funniest post ever! I think I might actually give rep for the first time just for this quote!

Halo 3 was a joke, Bungie fvcked over there fan base by making the abomination called "H3." I mean yes the first one was very very very good , then came out h2 which was so-so in the single player dept but the online gave it very very long legs and was still played the NIGHT that H3 came out hell people still play it. NOW h3 was just the biggest waste of money I have ever seen , I mean the storyline was weak, the AI was bad, the textures were ugly and basically the game was a let down. I mean Bungie had all the money they could ever need to make this game one of the best games that could ever come out...but what do we get?

I think the 360 has SOME good games coming out and the main ones I am looking forward to are Brothers In Arms, NG2(Already out I know), Mass Effect 2-3, Aliens, Dead space, Alan Wake, RE5, Silent Hill 5.

Now saying that BR is the way of the future is far from true brother, I mean one saying that DVD'S will be gone like the VHS is stupid to EVEN think. Look you have to think about this from the mass consumers view point....."DO I want to buy a movie that's 20 dollars or 30 dollars?" Now usually they will buy the cheaper one since they have no idea what HD or what BR is and will just see it as the "New," thing and it's pretty funny when you hear people talk about BR or HD and have no idea what they are talking about and only say things that are spread around or just talk about brand names.

BR is NOT the way of the future since streaming video is starting to take a foot hold and hard software will be gone while everything goes through the internet from now on...you can see this since Netflix,Block,Hollywood, and whichever one are starting to advertise streaming media. Plus the only reason the PS3 is the best br player out today is NOT because it looks or plays better but because it has automatic updates through the psn network , now the stand alone players need you to burn the update on a dvd to get updated which is S T U P I D.

Now the ps3 is a pretty decent console but if I was gonna get one I would just use it as a BR player since no good games have come out for the console, yes you can say Heavenly, Drake, Moto, Resistance but none of those titles are AAA except resistance which I have not played yet but looks very good for a first round title. Plus I have no interest in MGS which to me is a crappy series and you really need to pay attention to the story to even understand the new one coming out.

The Wii on the other hand is a pretty cool console, internet , old games and some pretty cool party games make it a pretty fun console. Now I think out of all 3 consoles you will become very bored with the wii after an hour while with a 360 or ps3 at least you have some story games that take a while to complete.

I would get either a 360 or ps3 since that would be a better investment but it's up to you, funny though some comments in here.

A better investment lol. They are going to be in bargain bins in 2 years.

N64 and Cube shows Nintendo can make cutting edge graphics if they think it's worth it. It's simply not. The consumers decided this.

I would get either a 360 or ps3 since that would be a better investment but it's up to you, funny though some comments in here.
Although you may not like this Bungie and M$ are incredibly smart. All Bungie had to do was make a Halo 2.5 which they did. The only good thing about Halo 3 is forge. M$ then hype the hell out of it, and the masses followed thinking the game was the second coming of Christ.

IMO Blu-ray is not going to take off like DVD did, but it will make a **** ton of money for Sony. It has the potential to do what DVD did if it is marketed right. Man everyone makes this streaming/digital downloads argument. Riddle me this how long would it takes to stream a true HD movie? It all depends if you have a fast computer and internet then streaming might be great for you. The majority of households in the U.S. don't have a fast computer or internet.

Another one if you stream an HD movie is it really HD? (Not a rhetorical question) By that I mean do you lose some of the quality of the movie. Also Time Warner is currently testing an internet cap (ironically in Texas lol where you pay for how fast your internet is and how much you can download), and I also read that Comcast is currently mulling this over. Now that could help streaming or hurt it. It could help because instead of downloading movies you would stream them so you won't pay the extra fees. It could also act as a deterrent from going on the internet. I personally like all these things and as you can tell I like discussing them with other people. There is also another factor. People want to see a physical medium. Having your movies in the computer instead of your hands is something people will have to get used to, but honestly it's only a small hurdle.

The potential for blu-ray is there. It could rise faster than DVD because everything is moving to HD. It all depends on how fast people adopt HD. It also depends on the marketing from Sony. Sony to me is confusing. They had some great marketing for the holidays with their PS3, but when arguably their biggest game comes out almost no marketing. Sony confuses the hell out of me with their marketing. Eventually DD/streaming is going to take over this much is obvious. The real question is how long will it take. Personally I believe it will take 5-10 years. That is plenty of time for Sony (I say Sony because it has the largest at stake) if they are smart. All this stuff is interesting to me, and I wonder how it will all unfold. I almost forgot what is M$ going to do with DD. I know DD is M$ baby, and they also have enough money/power to make some real changes. That is the biggest question mark what will M$ do for DD other than 360 and the next console after the 360.

A better investment lol. They are going to be in bargain bins in 2 years. N64 and Cube shows Nintendo can make cutting edge graphics if they think it's worth it. It's simply not. The consumers decided this.
If you look at things objectively both the 360 and PS3 are better long term investments. IMO the PS3 more so because of Blu-ray and standard HDD (WTF is up with the prices of M$ HDD) ALL three systems play games, but the Wii is just too underpowered. The Wii has no way of becoming a media centre which both the 360 and the PS3 can do. Like I said casuals don't really care about graphics unless they see them in a store or something. So the Wii is perfect for its market, but saying the PS3 and 360 will be in bargain bins in two years is ridiculous.

Another thing about Halo 3 I wonder if people would have a problem with it if COD4 didn't come out. Halo never had a first person shooter to challenge it. That all changed with COD4. So Halo had something to compare itself with, and the somparison wasn't even close. COD4 is by far a better game. For the record I hope Guerilla (developers of Killzone 2) steals the idea of a leveling system from COD4. That system is just awesome.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.

Dude, get the Wii... Not all games are childish and you can find some awesome physical ones that girls dig. I have it and when I preparty at my place with chicks, it really entertains them.

That being said, it's very hard to find. I had to drive half our North of Houston to find a Wal Mart that had them.

Mike ....that is WHY the Wii is doing so good....real user friendly and it's basically a party game type console. Plus you should have checked out some pawn shops...saw one down here for 100$

Sojourn.

Yes I agree that bungie just made money off the name but come on man, you know that they let everyone down, now for me I use to be a fan of the franchise but when h3 was being shown I knew it was gonna be crappy so I didnt care for it that much but the online is pretty good and hearing people cuss and scream when you beat them is always entertaining.

The BR thing like you said will not take off nor will it become a foothold, it is what it is a niche platform. The only reason WHY it got publicity like it did was because of the war but seeing as how BR has no competition now it will start to fall back , now I'm not saying it will die out as fast but since it has no advertisements and no mass appeal then it will stay a niche platform.

The streaming media thing is the future everyone knows this , hell live has movie's already on their service and psn is starting to copy them . Now what sounds better, paying what 5 dollars to rent a movie for a week or 2 bucks just to watch it one time? I know my prices aren't accurate but come on distribution of media is easier, cheaper and a hell of a lot better for the AVERAGE consumer. Now saying it will take long to download or stream a movie is true but seeing as how the internet speeds are getting faster all we really need to do is wait for what an hour or 2 then watch the movie later that day when your relaxing? The whole "True," HD thing is being beaten like a dead horse, 1. People keep on changing "True," HD because first it was 1080I now its 1080p and seeing the new Tv's coming out (3DHD, Backlit lCD, OLED..ect..) it will keep on changing 2. Like you stated people have to ADOPT HD in the first place and I seriously doubt they will get a tv capable of running "TRue." I think people will be getting cheap 720p,1360-1366 x 768 type tv's and not have true tv's that can output the real 1080x1920 resolution or they buy a 1080p tv but have no idea how to get the real resolution. No I think people are gonna be streaming which they do now at 720p because that is alot easier then doing a full 1080p movie in which almost noone has that can actually output the resolution without down converting it to either 1080i or 720p.

Now for me I like hard data and I will keep buying Dvd's HD-DVd's and BR movies because I like having the disk, now for me it doesnt matter about streaming media because I have no interest in downloading movies since I have D-TV and just watch whatever is on tv. But I agree that the ps3 is a better investment IF you know how to take advantage of all it has to offer (I am trying to find a 20g PS3 just for the BR capacity) but if you dont know what to do either a 360 or a wii would be good for you.

Ohh man out of all this ...THIS was the funniest post ever! I think I might actually give rep for the first time just for this quote!
I'm a little confused WHY...but whatever, I'll play ball.

I think the 360 has SOME good games coming out and the main ones I am looking forward to are Brothers In Arms, NG2(Already out I know), Mass Effect 2-3, Aliens, Dead space, Alan Wake, RE5, Silent Hill 5
Regardless, it's still an obsolete system. The HD-DVD player is next to worthless now. I'd rather have a LaserDisc player than an HD-DVD player.

Now saying that BR is the way of the future is far from true brother, I mean one saying that DVD'S will be gone like the VHS is stupid to EVEN think. Look you have to think about this from the mass consumers view point....."DO I want to buy a movie that's 20 dollars or 30 dollars?"
I'm a mass consumer, and that's not what I'm thinking. It's more like, "Wow, Blu-Ray movies are 7-10 bucks more expensive than regular DVDs. Fortunately, like all new technology, the prices will come down...but until then, I'll put an 10-spot down to get superior video and audio quality when I'm kicking back watching 300 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3."

Now usually they will buy the cheaper one since they have no idea what HD or what BR is and will just see it as the "New," thing and it's pretty funny when you hear people talk about BR or HD and have no idea what they are talking about and only say things that are spread around or just talk about brand names.
You VASTLY underestimate the intelligence of the consumer. Film studios make the same mistake all the time when they put rappers, pop stars, and heiresses in their movies to make an extra buck but then they bomb anyway. People know what HD is, man. Hell, every TV will be HD before long, just like all TV's are flat-screened now, just like every TV channel will be in HD.

Now the ps3 is a pretty decent console but if I was gonna get one I would just use it as a BR player since no good games have come out for the console, yes you can say Heavenly, Drake, Moto, Resistance...
COD4, GTA4, Assassin's Creed, Grid...what about RE5? Street Fighter 4? You obviously haven't done your homework. "No good games have come out", he says. That's rich.

I would get either a 360 or ps3 since that would be a better investment but it's up to you, funny though some comments in here.
360 is an obsolete system. Might as well be investing in a VCR. I don't think our views on the consoles are that different, although for some reason you think people would rather watch their pseudo-hi def movies on their little 13" laptops that may or may not have a dedicated high-speed Internet connection than have a disc that you can take anywhere (including everywhere that won't have Internet access) and watch on your 60" flat-panel plasma TV with full surround sound. Sojourn's right. People want something physical that they can take with them. Same thing with reading an actual newspaper than just going to the Internet.

And who has the better, (more established) distribution medium for downloadable content? Microsoft has the better pricepoint because it's not depending on the higher price BR hardware.

Another thing I don't believe anyone has mentioned is that the developers say that it's easier to write games on the Xbox and it's easier to port over to the PC. Dual market baby! The ports to PC from PS3 are pretty decent too. The one thing MS has going for it is their FREE game design kit which can be downloaded so you can create and distribute your own games.

hahahaha Wired your posts are P R I C E L E S S!

1. So the 360 is an obsolete system.....because HD-DVD died? That is stupid and makes no sense what so ever, Msoft was NEVER backing HD-DVD they just made a ADD_ON for the 360 so you can watch some high def movies. Saying the 360 is an obsolete system makes you sound like a fan boy and that is a bad thing to be if you didnt know.

2.You say the system is obsolete because of the hd-dvd and dont give the games that arent even out credit.....wow. Plus good luck with that laser-disk at least I'll STILL have High def content for 5$ a HD-DVD

3.HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhAH....wow really! I dont think consumers think like that at allll, and your starting to sound more like a ps3 fanboy as I keep reading your post. A AVERAGE consumer see's a dvd and a BR dvd side by side they will MOST OF THE TIME pick the regular dvd because MOST average consumers DONT have a BR player and the people that do are still like what 5% of DVD sales?

4.Really ? "People know what HD is, man. Hell, every TV will be HD before long, just like all TV's are flat-screened now, just like every TV channel will be in HD." That's why everything is BARELY going digital, and no not every tv is flat and NO not every channel is HD! Most average people out there think that the update coming up next year to change every channel to digital IS HD and basically shows that NOT everyone knows about HD like you say, it will be awhile before like you say every home will have a flat screen and every channel is HD and that time is NOT NOW.

5. I will say that COD4 was decent it's not the best game since it's very short and the multiplayer gets pretty boring after maybe a week but you can have that one, GTA.......well basically you get bored of the game after you beat the game since you have nothing to do and I havent heard ANYTHING about the game after the release. Assassins creed .....well it's the same thing over and over, go look for look out points, save citizens, pickpocket, sleep, talk to your contact and fight now fighting was the only good thing of that game.
Grid...well basically it brings nothing to the table that's new and I would rather go with Forza then grid, RE5 I said that on 360 yes it's gonna be a good game I'm not denying that and Street fighter....that game isnt even out yet and you say I didnt do my work?

6. You do know that you can connect your laptop or computer to your tv right? I mean when I want ( I have some movies on my laptop) I just connect my laptop via VGA to the back of my lcd tv and watch the movie in HD pretty easily...and no it's not a little 13" tv, Hell when I am bored I use my tv as a monitor to my laptop and just sit back in my chair with my wireless keyboard and surf the web , and play some starcraft or watch something and still have like you say a big enough screen to watch the show and surround sound. Plus I already said that I would keep buying movies but come on really people WANT the physical media? That's why everyone is stealing songs off the internet instead of going to buy the cd or burn the iso to the computer and watch it on the computer or go do all these things without paying for anything......that's why I guess we have a problem with pirating ...cause everyone wants physical media.

France.

Yes they msoft has an easier time to make games and port it to other consoles WHICH every time a game gets ported from the 360 to the ps3 the 360 version always wins since its harder to make games for the ps3 and the only guys that are having an easy time doing that is the first party titles which is hurting the fan base of the ps3.

XNA was a very good decision by msoft and I cant wait to see some of the games that people make from that.

PS....Before I forget there are sooooo many more people with an internet connection then a high def tv,AND a high def device.
