I just call it Vagina-Day. Only know one Valentine and I don't like him much.

Crafting up the valentine's week right now. Have a break day on Feb 13th, and intend to put two other vacation dates on Feb 15 & Feb 16 th, and with a statutory holiday the following Monday, it will be a feeling like having a week off, with the exception of showing up to work on a couple of days including valentines day.

These dates (ie Feb 13, Feb 15 & Feb 16, and bascially that week apart from Feb 14th) are known as anti-valentines day/week for people who are just unlucky in the love department. Even in this office where I'm at, I'm ignored by all of the girls there, but I'm such a good performer in terms of sales and other things, that I can't just quit the place like that. However, I am pushing for more WFH days, and failing that leave of absence (ie using caregiving for my mother as an excuse), or will put up vacation days around valentines.

I thought I read in one of your posts that you were a Christian. How do reconcile going to buffets with your faith? In Christianity, gluttony is recognized as one of the seven deadly sins.

"Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags." Proverbs 23:20
I didn't say that I go to buffets all the time. In fact, I have not visited a buffet since before the Pandemic. Therefore, I can't really start defending something that I'm not doing or have not done. In terms of whether I will contemplating visiting a buffet this particular year in February, around Valentine's day, then perhaps I might plan to do this.

I don't think one or a few buffet visit (assuming I'm comfortable enough to eat in a congregate setting with strangers or am able to fish out a time when there just might be one or two isolated people there, which in all accounts might be unlikely), is that that reference is talking about.

If you are controlled by food, and just living to eat, then you will not only just come to poverty (ie spending money on these things?), but you put yourself up to a whole risk of potential health outcomes. Everything is all about context. You can't take something that is done as an "anti-Valentine's day solo celebration", and say this is a pattern of behaviour all the time.

With a great 15 lbs loss of weight since a diet started in August, I doubt overeating is any issue here.

Bumping this thread because I just heard about a V-Day event in my area that I wanted to ask about here.

So a radio station in my area is hosting a singles mixer event on V-Day night, its about 2 hours long and I’m pretty sure there’s no admission fee but I could be wrong about that. I have no idea what the targeted age range is for this singles mixer, but it is being organized by the hosts of the morning talk show of what is a music station for the rest of the day. I looked up the hosts of this show and they all look to be in their 40’s so maybe that’s the age range?

As I said previously, I’ve been planning on spending that day at the casino playing slots while drinking beers and vaping THC oil because it lessens the blow of the fact that I’ve been alone my whole life. But now I feel that I’m just pushing myself into a self fulfilling prophecy if I don’t go to this singles mixer and stick with my original plan instead.

What do you guys think, should I give this singles mixer a try? I’m kind of skeptical about going since I would have to go alone to it, and I’m not sure if that would look weird or not seeing as it is a singles mixer after all.

Find out if there is an admission fee and how much it is.

I looked into it a little more, what I found says that its open to everyone 21+ and there’s no mention of an admission fee, so you’d think it’s probably free since that would be bad to not tell people upfront that you have to pay an admission fee and then just charge them once they get there. I do wonder if it would be twice as many men than women there, I could definitely see that happening especially if there’s no admission fee.

There's no real net loss in you going. Worst case scenario, it is lame and the liqour store is open lol.
This is true and I could always go back to my original plan of drunken gambling if it is lame lol. I also had reservations about going because I’ve felt that I would even fail the common icebreaker question of what you do for work. Right now, I deliver for DoorDash and that’s it. I’m sure that would be fine if I was still in my early 20’s, but I’m 30 and I feel like I’m gonna be looked down on for that at my age, but maybe there’s a way to put a positive spin on it.

Actually once I wasn’t a girl any more I came to understand Valentines Day (while the origin is chivalrous etc.) has become bastardized to such a degree as to be too expensive (why pay 2-4x on Valentines for the same dinner etc.) that’s normal price any other day. Ditto flowers etc.

I think spontaneous gestures are more meaningful and my anniversary is important (of the date we met & of our wedding day.). Those are more meaningful to me.

I find NYE and V days to be the two days that are total amateur nights for people who don’t normally go out, everything is overpriced and crowded. It’s insane to me.

He’s got a work trip that whole week, funny enough, but I might fly out & join him a couple nights (and we will stay in on Valentines Day itself…)

lol.

Today is February 3rd. When contrasted another reference date, Oct 25, the previous year, there is not much difference in a year to year basis. Except for one year in 2013. I was in a relationship with someone leading to marriage on October 25, 2012, and on February 3rd, 2013 she was completely gone and I was single again (ie we broke up in November 16, 2012, but again it's about contrast of specific reference point dates...the reality in Oct 25, 2012 vs the reality in Feb 3, 2013). The Valentine's Day/month really stung badly in 2013. There was never a year that I felt worst that that time. Having years where the previous year is not dramatically different to the current year, is rather peaceful in its own way (ie my reality in Oct 25, 2023 vs today is about the same today). Felt like a hole in my belly in 2013 during this month.
