Pope Gelasius declared February 14 as the Feast of Saint Valentine, as an effort to replace the pagan Feast of Lupercalia, which was related to health and fertility, with a Christian holiday. As time passed, the Feast of Saint Valentine transformed into a day for celebrating love, eventually evolving into the modern-day Valentine's Day.

Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill attribute the association of romantic love with Valentine's Day to the English poet Geoffrey Chaucer.

Geoffrey Chaucer's 14th-century poem, "Parlement of Foules," recounts the tale of a group of birds that assemble on Valentine's Day to find mates. Although the Roman Catholic Church acknowledges St. Valentine as a saint, he was removed from the General Roman Calendar in 1969 because of a lack of clarity surrounding his origins.

However, Valentine's Day continues to be celebrated globally and has grown into a multibillion-dollar industry, according to the National Retail Federation and numerous market research studies.

Anyone doing anything special?
The GF and I will be in a SoCal desert park. We might do a stage coach ride, then a V-day dinner at the tiny town near the park. It is a 'Dark Sky' town, that sounds kind of romantic. Was thinking of going to the coast for a dinner cruise, but they wanted $600!!! At least she agreed that was outrageous.
If this is Borrego Springs be sure to take her to the animal sculptures in and around town

If you are single on VD, there’s no friends or family that you can call or text that night lol.
You might be able to call or text a single friend. Your observation is true for a lot of single men on Valentine's Day.

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

personally i couldnt care less about V-Day, I do notthing with my plates (unless i am meeting one of them anyway). Its just a fake celebration and a way for people to spend way more money on the same things they would spend on a normal day.

I’m doing the same thing I do every year on that day, getting drunk and vaping THC oil at the casino while playing slot machines to commemorate yet another V-Day spent alone. Sigh, FML.

Yeah, I'm planning to go to work and just treat it like any other ordinary day. However, I wouldn't celebrate being single on V-day, that would be either Feb 13th, Feb 15th. If you google search, they even have anti-valentine's week. But anyway, I have to watch my weight and be careful not to get too much weight visiting any buffets around that time. You know the time you may say it's over, fvck it, I'm going to pig-out here, etc... I remember, this one February, I visited almost like 10 buffets during that month.

However, me being at 47 years old, near 48 with very elderly parents, we can't just eat anywhere like before.

Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.

I did something similar last V-Day, I spent the day working by doing DoorDash and then went to gamble with the day’s earnings at the casino that night. I had to deliver flowers and chocolates to girlfriends of guys who placed the orders, apparently DoorDash offers surprise V-Day gift deliveries every year and I got several of them. That was definitely salt in the would, but the trip to the casino helped.

I know exactly what you mean when it comes to food. You start thinking why even watch what I eat and try to look good because women don’t want me anyway, and buffets make that mindset even worse. The casinos in my area don’t have buffets anymore after the pandemic, all of them permanently closed their buffets. I feel like buffets have become a lot less popular ever since the pandemic, and yeah they’re really not a safe place for anyone who’s elderly to go and eat.

That actually sounds pretty sweet. Better than going to a crowded restaurant.
I definitely recommend it if you’re gonna be alone on V-Day, but even if you have a girl to spend that day with its still a good option for spending V-Day with her and a lot of casinos have hotels onsite too, so you also get a room right there at the casino to hook up at the end of the night.

This is true, compared to the 10s, I can hardly think of two buffet restaurants I'd be even interested in visiting. The Pandemic has definitely cratered the whole business concept. Apart from that, we are all getting older in this home. Both of my folks are virtually over 80, I'm hitting 48 years old soon and we are not the same compared to 18 years ago (ie 2006), even though the funcitonal mind-set about visiting such places is about the same as 2006, creating a mental time-capsule of thought that is out of sync with the realities of aging and becoming delusional. It is much a different world compared to that reference-point year when I was 30 years old, especially post-pandemic and that's aside from the aging process since then.

I thought I read in one of your posts that you were a Christian. How do reconcile going to buffets with your faith? In Christianity, gluttony is recognized as one of the seven deadly sins.

"Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags." Proverbs 23:20

One can go to a buffet without pigging out.
