There is no evidence that "getting ripped/jacked" leads to longer life, better health, or higher quality of life. Typically, it's the reverse. High caloric intake is associated with lower life span.
There's a strong case to be made for being physically active and moderate levels of exercise, but not for the extremes you see being promoted in film and magazines.
Very often it's an unnatural combination of:
1. steroid abuse
2. dehydration
3. excess protein consumption
4. excess calorie consumption
5. exorbitant investment of time in weightlifting (many of these guys practically live at the gym)
More often than not, it's a product of someone being highly responsive to steroids/hgh and getting that weird jacked bodybuilder look.
btw, the bodybuilder forums are littered with endless stories of gymcels so there's actually overwhelming evidence that getting jacked/ripped doesn't help at all and is a huge turnoff to a large percentage of women.
