Come across some previews on what Oprah is going to have on her show today.

According to the bites it is going to be about 6-7 women complaining about how there are not any real men left. Where did they go??

One preview has one women complaining that some men dont even know how to hold their fork at the dinner table.....He He.

If anyone is man enough to watch this episode maybe you could fill us in on the details. I'm busy at that time of day or would try and take a few glimpses.

Who knows it might be for the good..........wishful thinking???

yep, wishful thinking.

serious issues are never really 'explored' in the media. they just play to stereotypes and things that get people worked up so that they tune in.

shows like oprah are just watered down versions of jerry springer. the only difference is that jerry blatantly plays to the lowest common denominator, whereas oprah pushes the same sh*t just packages it up nicer for the middle class housewives.

I wonder if it's a coincidence that since I've been posting here and really thinking about life I watch much less television. Men are often portrayed as bumbling idiots. I WAS channel surfing a few days ago, there was some disney channel type sitcom with young teens. The boy and girl are sitting on the couch, and he pulls out a little toy and I have to turn the volume on because I know what's coming "gee we've been together for a couple weeks and I really think you're a great girlfriend and now here's a gift". The chick was totally in control and the guy was just sitting there nervous and fawning over her and following her lead. That's what I grew up with.

One reality show I have watched a few times is Wife Swap. I like that because it shows how men deal with women but who knows how real that is.

Ugh.

watching tv is fine, as long as you understand what you are engaging in.

its not reality. it is manufactured reality designed to stimulate emotional responses so that you become 'interested' in a show and continue to watch it thereby driving up revenues.

the reason they dont put interesting shows on tv is that the average tv viewer wont watch them. hence no advertising revenues, hence no reason to bother creating such a show.

so watch tv for what it is, mindless entertainment. but make sure you balance it out with other sources of mental stimulation that arent mindless.

I agree. There's plenty to choose from, there is good stuff out there at times. I guess I just used to watch too much, I was "plugged in", watching American Idol twice a week and things like that. Nothing WRONG with that, but again I think people "plug in" and it can be like your life is dictated by what's on tv and everyone is like "did you see that show?" "no, but did you see that show" and inbetween that is life.

I watched the movie "310 to Yuma" last night and I think that made up for at least a few years of seeing men be portrayed as idiots on tv. Instead of watching tv I'm just watching movies about men and masculinity. Even though it's not real, I'm getting something from it.

get yourself a tivo. i watch the crap tv because it makes me laugh. but cuz of my tivo I watch an hour long american idol episode in 15 minutes. i just fast forward through most of it.

another issue with tv is that i think its a lot like what we see with presidents. the best candidates for the job aren't prepared to deal with the bullsh*t to get the job.

there are tons of great amazing people out there in the world who could probably produce tv shows that were not only entertaining but informative as well. but they want nothing to do with tv because you have to put on a 'show' - when ratings dip you are expected to 'punch it up' or they will cancel the show. take 'man versus nature', its an interesting show, but to keep the lower class viewers interested the guy has to drink his own urine or eat spiders to keep the ratings up. without that crazy stuff the show wouldn't last.

we don't get the best presidents because the best people aren't prepared to get covered in sh*t just to get the job. and we don't get good tv because the brightest people would rather spend their time actually changing the world for the better, rather than being a part of the idiocy that is television.

and in both scenarios its the citizens who support all this by not being aware that they could be eating steak instead of 5 week old cold macdonalds cheeseburgers.

Lol. Yeah I've thought about the tivo, I may look into that. Right now I'm enjoying NOT being influenced by the media, if you know what I mean.

Hey now lets not forget Super Bowl Sunday.

Talk about a media hoopla but this superbowl should be really interesting but I believe New England will go down in history as the best football team ever and poor Eli Manning will have to wait another year to get his ring.

Anyway, I watch Oprah whenever a Dr. Oz is on there he is a straight forward doc that helps us become healthy. Very smart doctor he will talk about pretty much any topic concerning our bodies just ask it and he answers nothing is off limits witk him.

Not sure if I'll find time but if I happen to I'll watch today's show.

The only sitcom I enjoyed was Married with Children. For a US sitcom, the sarcasm was WAY out there (sarcasm is also why Brit comedy is much better than US 'comedy'). The rest? Total **** and borefests. As a man, I actually feel insulted when yet again the man is portrayed as a clueless retard. As for Oprah? Goddamn.

Regarding more women asking if there are any real men left..it's funny but it seems that in general, more and more items in papers, magazines and TV start to show up featuring women lamenting the lack of real men.

Reset, if possible, try to get a good grasp of the info these women are saying, and if possible, report back.
I ahte to say it, even though I admire Oprah to a degree, if she starts to advocate some fvcked up sh*t, we need to know about it.

I'm totally serious, Reset.
Millions of women across the US are going to follow her lead.

And funny that yo mention the 'bumbling idiot" stereotype on tv.
I have seen this for years, and have always abhorred watching idiocy and denigration like this.
Men EMBARASSED and SHAMED for BEING Men.

The doofus trying to pick up a chick, the doofus who comes off as 'creepy', the doofus of a husband, the doofus of a teenager, the doofus trying to be cool in bed....yada yada

It is ok, becasue it is TV, but when we see it EVERYWHERE....I get concerned.

Penny often talks about how she was kind of influenced by celebrities and tv and videos and stuff like that, it's only NOW that she has the perspective to see how people are being brainwashed into subsmisision and fvcked up gender stereotypes and gender roles.
She now tries real hard to bring up her wonderful kids to NOT be like those 'role models'.

And then when you see an interaction live, and see the guy fawning over some chick he doesn't even know, complimenting her, putting her on the pedestal,God.

Horrible.

Or some guys who go overboard with the ****y/funny, just so MIS Calibrated.

When I was about 14 or so I was in a bookstore, and overheard some guy trying to 'pick up ' a super cute little Latina , with long wavy black hair and beautiful eyes...

The guy had just come back from active duty, he was a Marine.

Biggest chump I have ever seen.

to this day I remember that guy, and her reactions to him, and the entiore dialogue like it was yesterday.

I swore to myself I would NEVER act like that with a woman EVER.

Yeah like many I grew up watching way, way too much television. As far as I can tell, that's how the genders were portrayed. I think anytime a guy didn't act that way he was considered a trouble maker, probably on drugs, with a deep sense of self-loathing.

We should have been more prepared for this. If we had known ahead of time, the sosuave army could have grouped....and formed a cohesive full frontal attack and stormed the set of Oprah.

We could have unveiled the truth! Millions of women would have seen the err of their ways!!

Well, I watched this crap on Oprah. Now I am not the greatest note taker of what I watched but in my humble opinion it was nothing more a show about how we men are behind the times and the women who are divorced middle aged and totally indenpendent need to let men be men as we are still traditionalist. Now up to a point I agreed with this so called match maker female that she would never date a guy on a date who holds his folk like a toothbrush and shes not going to teach him how blah blah blah. Now it would have been better if the matchmaker female expert would have followed with unless the guy has a disability and served his country for our freedoms or something instead of her living in the perfect world then I would have been find with her comment. Hell if the guy holds his folk between his toes maybe he could force feed the b*tch with a bigga meat ball and shut her big ass up.

Another thing let men open the pickle jar she tells the women we men what to be men she tells the ladies.

Don't stand there in front of him with a knife hitting on the jar of pickles trying to open it. Then she says be the smarter one something to that effect what the hell is that suppose to mean duh... that totallly annoyed me. If she would have just left it at the point of letting the man open the pickle jar that would have been OK as I am that man who would be glad to be a gentleman and show my strength. But I must add would have properly been the man who if a woman wanted me to open the pickle jar I would have grapped a knife and started hittin' on the lid to open it cause the dam things are so freaking hard to open these days and manly grips have nothing to do with tryin' to open them successfully and believe me I know what the hell is going on in the freaking kitchen more than these women may think I know. I hope I'm making sense and you get my drift. Hell I powerlift and sometimes think a better way to open a pickle jar these days is to just get a pair of goggles and hammer and well you get my drift.

They cut to the matchmakers show I forget the network it's on but it shows her asking a man of 41 years old how the hell are you a man 41 and still a virgin? How does that happen? In a sarcastic way she ask him. It shows the guy and then it cuts away. I happen to see the episode of this guy they showed and he ended up being matched with a guy and ended up being gay.

Now I don't believe for a minute that every guy whose in his 40's or whateever a virgin is gay. There are many issues and circumstances that happen in a life and it's not black and white as many like to pretend it to be.

Anyway, the women that were the still single that the matchmaker was trying to help looked like women I have dealt with in my own neck of the woods and I can tell you these types of middle aged women are a pain in the butt and they are airheads and it doesn't surprise me they are still single after a divorce there is just something about these types that just annoy the hell out of me and I am soon to be 49 in my opinion some women are just better off alone and should just learn to knit.

If I think of anything else I'll let you know but this is the best I could write if it makes any sense to anyone.
