yep

once you get past all the hoopla i think the bigger concern is that, this guy's defense is gonna be, the only thing it can be is, "well i was afraid he was gonna run off and commit a crime/ go harm someone / go domsehting illegal"

if he gets away with that, which he wont but if he did, then it's okay to shoot civilians if you are not in danger but you think they might go do something.

that's a big slope no one wants to go down

For a cop (or anyone) to shoot someone in the back, the circumstances that would allow that would have to be very specific. Deadly force is only authorized when a threat is imminent. The person shot in the back would have to either be charging at a third party with a weapon, or doing something really odd like pointing his gun behind him and firing blindly as he ran away.

It's not like it's that hard to tell entrance wounds from exit wounds. I can't even imagine the bullsh!t story that the cop had in his mind to tell as he was aiming to shoot the guy in the back.

Last summer, one of my neighbor's pit bulls got out and were killing another neighbor's dogs, bit him pretty good trying to break them up. He knocked on my door in a panic, and I gave him my .45 so he could shoot the pit bulls. He shot the male, and the female ran away. He leveled the gun to shoot the fleeing female, and I screamed at him to stop. He didn't fire. When the cops came, they told him that I gave him good advice. They said shooting the first dog was ok, because it was attacking, but shooting the other dog would have been felony animal cruelty because it was running away, and they would have arrested him. Moral of story: don't shoot anyone or anything running away from you. That's not self-defense.

Watch the interview. I saw the whole thing on NBC last night. Isn't it a damn shame that a citizen is scared for his life, and unwilling to talk to the police over this? Santana tried talking to the police about his video and left after feeling uneasy around them. What if he went through with the erasure of that video?

Either way, he has now done the right thing and many people are rightfully calling him a hero. Keep your cameras on people. Ive even read about citizens who were hidden button cameras in their shirt or hidden eyewear cameras. Do what you have to do.

And definitely stand against those in this country who want to take away our right to film the police. Im disgusted that there are politicians out there who are even trying to stand behind legislation that would take away this right. A politician or cop upholding the law will have no problem with citizens recording, and its our best chance to put this to an end and help each other and ourselves.

I have to agree that the story shouldn't be about racism, but that is how they are trying to portray it.

The story should be about how ANY cop would do this to ANY person. But given the history of the media on this subject, it is painfully obvious they are searching for their white racist scapegoat.

Its about how you all interpreting it as well. The thread should be mostly about the cop and the tyranny of our militarized police force...but some of you are more concerned about how this story might make white men look. We even had one troll incorrectly calling Mr Scott a thug, when nothing in his history makes him so.

He was simply a down on his luck guy who kept getting in trouble because of family court issues. Might have been a deadbeat....or he might have been another man screwed over by the system. But like backbreaker said earlier...its quite telling how the manosphere responds to such situations depending on the race of the people involved. Ive seen it here and on other websites when this story or others are being discussed. For men who sure love saying how unfair the family courts are and how trifling women are, the manosphere is quick to bash a non-white man who doesnt let women or the family court system hold him by the balls.

So while its so easy to blame the media for the racial narrative...the media simply recognizes that many Americans have a racial bias within...and they play into that for views. The media doesnt change the fact that many Americans (including cops) will react different to someone depending on their race and gender. Media or no media, people will react the way they want to. Just see some of the articles for the shooting before the video released.

And I saw plenty of comments across the net throwing racial language around about Mr. Scott before the video surfaced. So lets not blame the media for things people choose to believe themselves. And if you look through the newer responses to some of the early comments, youll see how quiet the haters are after they had the video thrown in their faces. I digress.

Kill all the armed criminals they can...Im with that...but many of the unarmed people who didnt deserve to die are minorities. Tamir Rice, John Crawford, Akai Gurley, Jessica Hernandez...the list goes on. There are white guys who see the same fate...but its much rarer. And its minorities who have to live in communities like Ferguson where the cops target their citizens in order to increase revenue. And its minorities who make up large portions of communities where a cop like Slager would get away with framing a man if it wasnt caught on tape. I repeat, I agree with shooting armed criminals...but its become too common in America for unarmed people being killed who should have never been killed.

If cops can go to the Bundy ranch with snipers pointing at them and not kill anyone...they can stop killing unarmed citizens. If they can capture the Batman shooter and Boston bomber alive, they can refrain from killing unarmed people who didnt harm anyone. Id also like to say cops definitely need to learn how to deal with the mentally ill Americans in society and stop killing them too. No more Kelly Thomas or Dontre Hamilton situations. Both of those men are dead and no one is in prison for it.

he's gonna be guilty. i think what it all comes down to in the end was what was the thing he planted / threw on the ground. if that was in fact a taser and he tried to plant evidence, i think he gets the needle. if not he'll probably get 2nd degree murder
