I thought religion encouraged meditation.

Unless you're talking about religion in some sort of "organized religion keeping people sedated and taking their money" sense, as opposed to actual spirituality.

Yep. That's exactly what I'm talking about. But then the people who usually subscribe to such 'religion' aren't interested in Truth anyway. They're just interested in removing their guilt before going back to their sinful (unwise/greedy/selfish) lives. And there are a lot of them.
