Actually, I do a lot of trading myself and if you know what you are doing, you can beat the HFT's. In fact, they really have no bearing what-so-ever on my trading.

But then, I don't do day-trading, what I do is called swing-trading.

I do swing trading as well. In my opinion, it's the best way to play the markets.
