Carbs: Here is where we have debate though... People are tellling you to go ZERO carb already. Finding it hard yet? I'd start to cut carbs out of your life incrementally, which might be harder for some... Just start to make healthy choices here, okay? No more microwave dinners! You'll start to see results from your training(lifting/cardio) by keeping your carbs--regardless of what it is you eat--under 100-200g. I'd actually say that WHEN you see fat loss start to taper off, THEN you start cutting carbs down below 100-150g. Right now, I think you can milk your body quite well. Being very aggressive will work, perhaps a tad faster, but wouldn't you like to lose fat while maintaining sanity? :)
Quik, the guy is 34 years old, and 270 at 5'6" and a diabetic, and you are recommending carbs on a daily basis. THE RULES YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT DO NOT APPLY TO HIM.

Karma, the approaches myself, Quik, and Alex have posted will all work, at different paces granted. However, since Alex has more experience than myself and Quik combined I recommenced taking his advice over the both of ours, as I don't pretend to know as much as he does. Whilst what we have posted is similar you'd do best to stick to one approach. Just incase things were getting confusing...

I forgot about the diabetic part, I suppose listen to Alex about the carbs.

Though what have you been eating to gain that much weight if it wasn't carbs?

And for the record, 34 years old is still young.

The good side about your situation, Karma, is that since you're a diabetic you've had to develop more self-discipline than most, which in theory should help with this undertaking.

The point is that everyone (but older guys especially) need a lowcarb LIFESTYLE, not a quick fix.

And seriously, once you make the transition over to being a fat burner you will never go back. The thing is that you cannot become a 'true' fat burning metabolism if you include carbs chronically.

Each of your perspectives are extremely valuable and appreciated.

Tonight for dinner is 5 burned hot dogs (I like them that way :D ). More veggies and for dessert I have sugar free Jello cups.

At 0500 I hit the gym. I will be making some adjustments to my routine. I'm going to take far less time between sets so I can squeeze in some Cardio that way. I'm also not going to kill my energy with treadmill work. Perhaps a 5 - 10 minute warmup but that's it.

Some good information in this thread. I was wondering, what kind of vegetables are you eating Karma? I literally eat NO vegetables right now and really need to start, but I just always forget about them when I go shopping, I skip right over that section, and I know I'm missing out on a lot of health benefits.

Usually I eat California blend in the five pound bag (Broccoli, Cauliflower and carrots) I like corn, though there is more sugar than I'm allowed so I limit myself. Spinach is my all time favorite though. Straight out of the can.

Italian style green beans are awesome cooked in a crock pot with some bacon.

No potatoes or rice for me.

Breakfast was 4 eggs and 7 small sausage patties.

Ok, I did it. I swallowed a raw egg. Not as bad as I thought but what popped into my mind afterwards is the thought that maybe this is what gay men and chicks who swallow go through?

It's not for me. But I can say I did it.

I'm eating some sliced turkey breast then a couple hours of sleep and hitting the gym.

EFFORT,

Yes I am getting my cardio in but on the advice of council I'm not going to do it when I get there, rather I'm going to take less time between sets and then jump on the mill or bike or elliptical when Iim done with the real work.

For a shake use: Two scoops flavoured whey+4 raw eggs+some water-Then use a blender. I promise you you will not know raw eggs are in there. You may need more or less calories for a shake, you just have to adjust the number of eggs to suit.
Karma, karma, karma. I don't know about the other guys but I'm sure most of them don't take eggs fully raw on there own, I wouldn't be for that either.

I posted the above in an earlier post, you are meant to blend them with other things. Give the above a shot, you can add double cream if you like and I can assure you it will not be unpleasant, especially if you use the cream.

I'd rather you did cardio seperate from weights for two metabolic booster shots in a day - you need them.

also don't worry about megadosing eggs for now. when we're in muscle gain mode is when you need to be taking in 12-24 a day

Warboss, to get on the same page I'm to take 30 seconds to a minute between sets then after the weight work I do my cardio? Or should I take a little longer between sets too and rep out each set?

I believe he means do cardio in the morning, and work out in the afternoon. So you're getting two seperate sessions in.

yeah, I mean two seperate sessions as far away from each other as possible.

your stats and bf suggest a very slow metabolism, which needs as much coaxing as possible to raise its rate of calorie burn. raising it through cardio, allowing it to settle down again and then raise it again through weights will make it more efficient at energy expenditure and also raise your basal metabolism (as opposed to one 'high' through weight training and then cardio immediately after).

Thank you for the clarification.

Now, which is best for optimal gains, cardio in the morning or evening?

For dinner I have chicken legs ( this time the skin is all mine! ) and CA veggies and corn.

Gym in the morning and then again in the evening.

Oh and proof is in my blood sugar levels. In 4 days it hasn't gotten over 123.

Fvck yes.

You want to try and do cardio in the am after waking up. You have some whey beforehand so you aren't in a catabolic state.

Btw you didn't log in the last 24 hours this is blasphemy! Don't think you're giving up now, heh joke :D

Keep it up,

catabolism isn't an issue here.. at this stage maximal calorie expenditure and controlling insulin is our goal. plus as a beginner you're not carrying enough muscle to make it a viable fuel source for cardio

once Karma hits up some heavy training we can take these precautions, right now they're not needed.

anti-catabolic pre-cardio food is an unnecessary measure right now. basics first.

Hey Karma, great job. Just a little support, you have a lot of people here rooting for you. You can achieve anything you put your mind too.

Oh, and for a healthy low-carb snack tip, try all-natural real peanut butter and celery (my fav, I had to at least contribute something that hasn't already been said.)

Keep up the good work!!

I missed this - that's awesome dude. This is what we're striving for, insulin management and conditioning. Major fat loss/muscle gain comes in time but your health is paramount.

See, and you all thought chicken skin was gonna kill you..
