How to not be the old dude in the club

We all thought that we would be young forever and party like its no tomorrow, but as fate would have it, you eventually became 30 and started to realize that many of the people in the club with you were probably in elementary school when you started clubbing. As you approached 40, you start to see some of the children of your old running partners become old enough to be in the club with you. Imagine the embarrassment of hitting on some chick only to realize that you helped their moms change her diapers some 20 odd years ago.

Many of us may be at or close to that golden age of 40 or beyond, but still feel the urge to get out and party but don't want to be the old man at the club. Every one has seen one out before and wondered to themselves; is that the club owner or some weirdo who needs to be at home in bed by now?

Age isn't an instant stamp of "old dudeness" per se. Many celebrities see to be in place in social settings when they are well into their late 30's or even 40's. Will Smith, LL Cool J, Chris Rock and others are timeless players. Samuel Jackson is damn near 60 and can still hang.

Its not just the age, but the mindset of the player that comes to play in clubbing situations, and by following a few tips, you will be able to hang well until midlife.

1. Your clothes and gear.
Those polka dot shirts and parachute pants may have been the rage in 1992, but today, they just look silly. You want to be fashionable, but not over do it. if you are over 29, dressing like Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy isn't going to cut it. The key word is grown and sexy. Consider rocking more suits and less jeans and oversized shirts. Get a copy of International Male or GQ to see what the grown folks are sporting. Also check your shoes. Stay the hell out of Payless shoes ang get something that looks good on your feet. Real men wear gators, but if you can't afford them, you can't go wrong with Stacy Adams.

Jackets. Try to wear a sports coat when you can. Even with jeans, they improve the look and sets you apart. Remember the commercial for Just for men hair coloring when the guy says "The gray says experience but the color says energy"? same with coats and designer t shirts.

2. Your Dome
Lets face it, Jerry curls, mullets and High top fades are not coming back in style. On the other hand, wearing braids, bushy ***** ponytails make you look like you just left your parole officers office if you are over 30 and trying to sport it. The word is stylish but simple. If you are balding, just rock a a clean shave. in the 80's we use to make fun of the kids in school who were bald headed due to a bad hair cut, accident, cancer, ect. But then in 1985, a phenomenon named Michael Jordan came to be and history was changed forever.

Hats. There is a reason they are called baseball caps and that they were because they were designed for baseball. Younger cats can mix it up with their hip hop garb and attire, but it just doesn't mix well with suits.

3. Dance moves
Running man, Chinese Typewriter, Cabbage Patch. Again cool as hell 20 years ago, outdated now. With the exception of break dancing and b boying and possibly swing, No dance styles from the past have ever died out and made a successful comeback. We all have that relative at family reunions that loves to get up and show us how they got down back in the day and we thought they looked silly, but we still loved them for the effort. Guess what, one day that will be you up there doing the Troop.

The key is to look like you blend in, but don't put too much into the latest trend; dance routines. As a player, you really shouldn't be out on the floor that much anyway, unless some girl or girls pull you out there.

4. Club Venues
Unless you are specifically targeting a certain demographic, you should consider avoiding these types of clubs if you are over 35:

- 18 to enter, 21 to drink (16 if you have a fake id, tired of immature boys in my age group, you get the idea).

- Clubs with a weak or no dress code. If dudes can dress like they just got out of bed, they will (this should go for any age group)

- Clubs with rap/hip hop only mandates. If you are macking to a chick and things are going good, it was always a plus to get her on the floor when the slow jams came on. Nowadays, its like one long ass 106 and park episode.

5. Attitude. We are are own worst enemies when it comes to attitude. we think "I'm too old to be here and they know that" we might forget that still look like we are 20something; we can't fool our biological clock.

I hope these tips help older players. I thought about this as I am 39 myself and will hit the big 40 this summer.

It's never embarrassing if she's hot and you get to fvck her.

I'm 32 and certainly feel out of place at the 18/21 clubs. However, now that I found a good look and hairstyle I'm regularly being mistook for 24-26, so it's not so weird and I can game then younger chicks just fine. They're a little inane to talk to, but once their mouth is full it's not a problem.

I'm 33 and the only thing I have to add is that when I was 19-24, I would look at "old dudes" at the club and think "go home dad" and then my friends and I would laugh at 'em.
BUT...if they didn't look old, and had scores of girls showing interest in them, all we could say was "respect".
Now...being 33 and a guy who still goes to clubs, sometimes I think "what am I doing here?" and I also think "where do people MY age hang out?"
The answer is that MOST people my age arent going out anymore due to being in LTR's and whatnot so how can you NOT be surrounded by so many young people. If more people, say 28 and up, kept going out until around 40-45 there would be no "what age is too old for the bar?" issue. Its just that so many of us get hooked up with someone, get tied up with our careers, get tired, lazy, cranky, out of shape, or just plain too busy with our lives etc and then just end up staying home. So in this regard, all thats left at the clubs are people who still have the ENERGY and DRIVE to go out. It just so happens that they are younger...usually.

usually in big towns you will have an array of clubs.
some will be more the young crowd...
some will be more the older laid back crowd.
some will be in between.

sometimes you have to find a place where you fit in the best.

Wow, I never made fun of bald sick people.

I did make fun of men who had a very high hairline with the comb-over.

I remember going to one place that was supposed to be popular with cougars. Well, this place didn't have cougars - they had the lions. I doubt if anyone in there was NOT on Social Security. There was one guy connected to an oxygen tank making out with some chick. :woo:

I'm sorry. I have no idea what a "106 and park episode" is. If you mean to say that clubs now seem to only play fast songs, and no slow songs, then I will agree. This is true in my ethnic culture as well.

Dear Blackmm,
Well you may have convinced yourself but much as I want to believe you,I just can't.....At 64 a 20 year age difference in a relationship, can happen and for a while you may get away with it,but at 39?who are you kidding?frankly I think for your own good, you should move on,I don't care if you are some incarnation of Peter Pan,these kids are way too young for you....really what do you do after you've shagged them?...surely there is more in it than this simple act....In a few more years you will seem like some predatorial old paedophile...As to your comments on dancing, many beautiful dances have been around for well over a century...I suppose you have given an inferiority complex to many young blokes out there, all I can say to them is,dress smartly, learn to dance, get a little repartee and you will pull girls.

Never try to read a woman's mind. It is a scary place. Ignore her confusing signals and mixed messages. Assume she is interested in you and act accordingly.

I would suggest trying to stay slim. I would also suggest not trying to look like a teenager when you are in your 40's. I think these guys who dress very trendy look silly (bright t-shirts with logos), you will be seen as the trendy Dad.

I also don't think I have worn trainers after the age of about 20. I prefer boots/ shoes. I would go for a nice watch (Tag Heur or Seiko if you can afford it), nice quality jeans and buttoned shirt. Also don't wear sunglasses inside :). In winter a nice wool coat (longer sytle) or sports top in summer

Don't wear you jeans below your bottom, like seems to be the syle with teenagers!

I think you missed the point I was trying to make. I'm not advocating that you try to be something that you are not anymore, but to work with what you got and find your niche. There are extremes to everything and if you haven't got it right by 60, you should really evaluate your life. My rule is half my age plus 7. I want someone in my generation, not someone who only remembers the Iran hostage crisis, and the Lennon assassination from history books.

Yes I am 39, but last time I checked, the world is still full of hot ass 30-38 year old chicks.

:nono: Your shaming tactics have been noted.

I applaud the OP for realizing age is just a number and not being afraid to go out and tap some young fine booty.

Experience has taught me that how people perceive you is entirely within your grasp. If you dress sharply, have a good hairstyle, etc age will be overlooked to a large extent. You may not be able to pull this off at 60, but at 39/40 walking into a club full of 20somethings is no big deal.

Most of my male friends are mid to late 30's and I can assure you that nobody looks at us as the "old guys" when we walk into a club.

I wear stylish clothes, hair, etc. Another thing that never hurts is walking around with 20 something women in your company.

The only "flak" I ever catch is when someone brings their brother and a couple of his early 20's friends who are threatened by my status and try to assert their "alphaness".

Puhleeeze....

I am a muso as a hobby and enjoy listening to live music. I have been doing the club scene for the last 3 years after becoming single again.

I found that I had no problem fitting in at all - maybe because the band and their girls know me. The thing is you have to fit in. Being able to dance is a big plus. Have had no problem in picking up a bit of los (stray p*ssy) once in a while as well - especially after doing a guest gig.

The point is that you must not look like a dodgy old dude lurking in the corner ogling all the young girls, like this one guy I know. That is creepy to them. Remember, women are illogical, age is not an issue, your body and attitude is all they notice.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

I would say just go to a "grown and sexy" club. Let's be real, if a girl in her 20's is trying to get with a guy 20 years older than her, she's trying to get some money out of him. I mean, how do you have a convo with somebody who is listening to Bow Wow or Chris Brown? But if you're going to do it, my take is that you walk in sharp and like you have some style. There's going to be a lot of younger guys running around like hungry dogs trying to get whatever they can while you stroll in and act like you have first pick on everything.

You don't need to justify yourself to this moron. Date girls that you are attracted to, whether they are 20 or 40. Forget about formulas and all that crap. If you see an attraction, go for it.

The "Old Guy in the Club" is yet another social convention archetype designed to shame 35+ y.o. (it actually seems to be getting younger now) men into "growing up", abandoning their natural desire to ƒuck young, hot, women and accepting "their responsibility" by providing for the security needs of 'mature women' unable to sexually compete with the younger ones (the ones they used to be) that vie for men's attention.

The Old Guy in the Club is a myth, and what's ironic is that statistically, the 'Old Gal in the Club' should be a far more common occurrence. Yet, we don't have an 'Old Gal' stigma attached to these women - it's a uniquely male-targeted shaming convention. In fact, if anything, the MILF phenomenon is a socially reinforced goal state for single / divorced mature women. It's a point of pride for women and a mark of shame for men.

It's also ridiculous because as PENKITTEN pointed out, the shaming convention would have us presume that the only clubs in existence are ones where 21-28 y.o.s are uninhibittedly grinding away to pulsing trance-house music beats and a balding divorcee sits wistfully wishing he were still young enough to join them again. Gimme a ƒucking break.

I've worked in the liquor industry for years. I can be at any number of events, tastings, product launches, promos, radio remotes etc. in a given month and see a huge variety of venues that would make 25 y.o.s uncomfortable and / or 60 y.o.s uncomfortable. And I've been at clubs where unless you're pushing 80, you don't seem out of place. It's all in the venue and even among franchise clubs the demographic can change.

The Old Man in the Club is nonsense. What it comes down to is individual social intelligence and a willingness to observe one's surroundings and adapt to them. Evolve or masturbate, it's up to you.
