This question can be asked of any competition in the culture. Mother Nature is above all, competitive, and indeed, once early humans figured out that a thing bone could be wielded as a club, or a big rock could be thrown like a cannonball, etc., they fought other humans to control land (from which everything, including poon, follows). Even in the very narrow slice of culture of PUA (or whatever it is now ), strong themes are "be the best you you can be" and have a "dominant frame" my AMOGing your rivals, and thus its kernel is competition.

Watching folks who are at the best in their craft has entertainment value because they are so elite. I could sing Frank Sinatra's songs, but he was a better singer than I have ever been, so I like listening to him; perhaps if Frank were still around, he might like the way that I can determine the kernel of a particular aspect of Black Pill (i.e., "it's OVER for ~Cels"). :) I was once a somewhat competitive weightlifter, so I love watching the men who excel at it,, etc.

And oh, getting back to our ancestors, pulling for one's tribe to win whatever war they were involved in was not just entertainment value - it was a matter of life or death (or freedom or slavery, etc.), and thus we have evolved to have a strong desire to pull for our team (however we determine who our "team" is). The game of football specifically (be it "world football" - soccer - or American football, or even soccerish games like basketball or hockey) is very well tuned in to this tribal war paradigm as the object of the game is to physically overwhelm the opponent and score a goal, which is akin to raping the other tribe's women (and similarly being scored on is akin to having one's women raped, etc.).

Here is a good illustration of how war & sexual conquest are so intimately (pun NOT intended) related.

It seems like you are just adapting to your situation currently which isn't bad. Even when I watch for fun, I still end up getting too emotionally invested into a game or my team. Idk, it just seems like a drug sometimes lol.

Bro because it's the Falcons haha.
It's OVER for FailCantCels. :)

Im a fan of Pook as much as the next guy. But cant a guy watch a little TV after a day of hard work?
Pook's quote is outdated. Post covid, everyone's TV watching has increased dramatically. It has become a norm now. I've noticed on dates, the number 1 topic brought up by women is TV and streaming. If you're not watching anything, the conversation will go cold quickly. So I say watch a couple of popular series' in order to bring something to the conversation.

I do feel like if you don’t watch certain shows now like Game of Thrones, you do fall behind in society socially. There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t see a GOT reference.

My sense is that video consumption increased during the worst of the pandemic. You and I have the same viewpoint on that.

I believe Pook's quote that only women and losers watch TV is from the early 2000s. I watch fewer streaming series and TV shows than most women. Over the last 10 years, I have been on plenty of dates where conversation did not go cold. I don't perceive that conversations are meaningful when discussing streaming content or reality shows produced by broadcast/cable networks.

I have never seen a single episode of Lost, Friends, or any of the popular 2000s-early 2010s shows and I was never lost or felt left out. Ever since streaming became popular, shows have became an integrated part of normal conversations and lingo.

I still watch the NFL on occasion, but I'm no longer emotionally invested in it. So many games have had horrible officiating to the point where the refs are picking the winners.

I don't know if this has already been said because I don't want to read 10 pages of old posts, but I agree in the sense that consuming anything will always be more "beta" than creating or performing or participating. The players on the field are always going to be more "alpha" than the viewers in the stands and at home.

Nothing wrong with a bit of beta fun every now and then, though. We are allowed to have some guilty pleasures. I'm just personally not a football fan.

Yes, that exact thing had been said earlier in the thread. Playing a sport is more likely to be an alpha activity and spectator sports are more of a beta male thing. Your comment warrants repeating.

The Super Bowl is heavily watched so there are going to be alpha, sigma, and beta males who watch it. Sigma males are more introverted so they are probably the least likely to watch at a party. It's possible a sigma watches alone at home but a lot of sigmas wouldn't care too much about following a cultural trend. Sigmas are also a less common type of man. Alpha males are more extroverted and social and could be inclined to watch. Beta males are the most common type of man so most betas will be watching.

A lot of Super Bowl parties are a reflection of your couplehood status. Guys will often start bringing their girlfriends to Super Bowl parties as soon as they go exclusive with them. Men in committed relationships think it's mandatory to bring their girlfriends/wives to Super Bowl parties. This starts to become more noticeable for men around age 30. A lot of Super Bowl party hosts are married men or men living with their girlfriends.

I don't. I'm not one of the whatever-color-pill people. I do know, however, that having too many hobbies focused on consumption (watching things, playing video games, etc.) can lead to a host of problems in life psychologically, physically, and definitely in how attractive you will be to women. On the other hand, having more hobbies focused on the opposite, having a sense of purpose developed from actually creating something or improving yourself, can solve those problems and enhance your life in many ways that will make you more attractive to women in the long run.

I'm just using those "alpha" and "beta" terms as a heuristic for the sake of the members here because that's just how yall talk. I'm never going to sink to saying "sigma male," though. I'm too old for that sh!t.

Football is pornography for men. It’s a diversion. Women watch reality television and whatever and men have their parallel things that they over analyze, divert attention to and socialize around. Most guys can’t play sports so they use something as old as time, sanctioned violence, to entertain themselves. I don’t think it’s alpha or beta I think it’s simply human nature to not be content.

Most guys have played sports growing up. Very few have the ability to do so at the highest level. It's a way to get the competitive juices flowing the way playing them in your younger years got them going.

Plus growing up watching them as a kid makes them engrained as a part of your life.

It's also a comradie thing...guys having "bro time" with other guys watching sports together.

A poster asked how to make new friends as an adult in another thread. No better or faster way than to start going out places watching sports with other guys.

I was an outside linebacker who did some flag football recently and I feel dirty having done so. I was a national caliber college baseball player. Do you have a sport background, I would assume you do.

Soccer and football growing up. Played Division I soccer at a nationally ranked school, but honestly was probably better at football.

Had a chance to go semi-pro out of college but a bunch of nagging injuries had been really dogging me for a year+ at that time and I didn't see the worth of continuing to keep dealing with that and worse for a few hundred bucks a month.

Played recreationally for a while on my own terms once I healed up enough for about another 8 years til I was 30ish, then that was it.

Too many dudes I knew getting seriously injured by no skill goons who think it's cool to level you with slide tackles with no regard for legality or safety in mind because they were pissed off from being embarrassed if you put a move on them. Made worse by refs who let it happen and turn a blind eye most times. After my buddy tore his ACL from one of those in front of me that was it.

After that I played in full contact touch leagues and flag football leagues as a kicker and went to the National flag tournament a few times in Florida.

Ya, circle jerk of analysis. Football is entertainment, end of story. It's like watching a movie except nobody but Tony Romo knows how it ends.

I think watching sports is a pretty silly and pointless activity, but I don't judge. I just hate when people shame others for video games while simultaneously thinking it's okay to browse social media on their phone or watch sports, as if they aren't equally a waste of time.

I will say, the emotional investment people place into their "teams" (which don't really exist btw, teams are basically just a uniform and nothing more), and how their entire days can be ruined if "their" team loses, this is shvt brained thinking.

Football seems to give me mixed feelings because I see so many men invest so much of their time, money, and emotions into a game not within their control. If you legit like football and you have your ducks in a row, then sure I don't blame you. I do like college football, but I do get to wakeup moments in where I have to question myself about liking it lol. IDK, but nothing is more cringe than seeing a hopeless guy wearing another man's jersey and being able to quote the third string DB & Draft statistics like nothing.

Now the pros to football are that you definitely need to have a grasp on it if you decide to pursue NPC type women or NPC friends in general. However, do you really want to be commonly associated with these types of people in the first place? I know @Jesse Pinkman went too hard on the football lovers and realized he was a little too harsh on them. Personally, I think it is a huge waste of time, energy, and money. My favorite CFB, NFL, and MLB teams have all won the national championship at some point and nothing in my life changed after they won. In fact, I have made more stupid decisions over being upset over them losing, so there's definitely more negative consequences IMHO.
I generally dont care/I'm annoyed from anything that doesnt benefit me personally in some way while I'm expected to pay attention or be involved into it.

Wheter its the stadium, the museum of modern art or some current social trend.

I see no issue with enjoying sports and engaging in entertainment that fosters a positive mindset. However, when one adopts a sports team as their identity, allowing game outcomes to negatively impact their actions, that's where the line needs to be drawn.
