I see no issue with enjoying sports and engaging in entertainment that fosters a positive mindset. However, when one adopts a sports team as their identity, allowing game outcomes to negatively impact their actions, that's where the line needs to be drawn.

I was smuggling beer into professional football games as young as seven years old. Needless to say I have a less than stellar memory of attending pro football. Guys always bond over their tailgating, I’m yet to meet anyone who has me trumped. I conservatively have been to 150 nfl games.

I know several people who haven't missed a Bills game home or away in over 40 years.

I don't know if this has already been said because I don't want to read 10 pages of old posts, but I agree in the sense that consuming anything will always be more "beta" than creating or performing or participating. The players on the field are always going to be more "alpha" than the viewers in the stands and at home.

Nothing wrong with a bit of beta fun every now and then, though. We are allowed to have some guilty pleasures. I'm just personally not a football fan.

I find it humorous that the very people offended by your above remarks.. are the very people that speak unfavorably about p0rn.

This does make you wonder why... they'd rather live variously through a bunch of bun-patting men on a football field....than to live vicariously though a man giving it to a woman.

I’ve actually seen a game in buffalo. I had a client there and we sat in the rock pile. It was about 10 years ago. People were parking on private lawns to get around the 5 hour tailgate rule, I was obviously not a local fan and that walk in was hairy.

The rock pile? That stadium has been torn down for decades now.

The movie The Natural with Robert Redford was filmed there back in the 80s a few years before it was razed.

All-High Football stadium sits there in it's place now.

The stadium is in Orchard Park, about 20 minutes south of downtown and located in one of the prodigious Lake Snow belts off Lake Erie.

Parking on lawns isn't to get around the tailgate rule, it's just how we roll...the stadium is built in a residential neighborhood. A lot of those houses throw parties themselves before and after games that are included when you park there.

Too bad it was before Josh Allen...sounds like that was during the EJ Manuel/Kyle Orton days.

Well apparently he has no idea where we sat, I just showed him a few sections and that’s what we did. Was the Kyle Orton days

but yeah, we sat on some guys lawn, in the middle of the neighborhood and walked down, other folks had tents it was some wild stuff. Cool to see a different perspective.

Had to come back to this thread. Watched some football today and went to a local bar to see the Eagles and 49ers game. Did not feel like gaming since I broke my NoFap a day or so ago and so I watched football instead, tells you about how I watch the sport when I feel beta. Right next to me at the bar are a couple, both 9ers fans. Dude is a skinny white guy and the woman is a chubby Latina. Both are from California and I am only a drink in while these two have had a few. Secretly rooting for the Eagles but tbh, I don't even care.

Talk to the couple as the woman opens me and I am nice to them. I keep chatting and making small talk, making sure to include the guy in the convo and everything. However, the woman is like super nice to me and even starts touching my arms at which point I am a bit uncomfortable. I see the rage in the dude's eyes and then I tell them about how I have a girlfriend who is out of town and I am rooting for the Eagles because of her.

Guy, who is somewhat drunk, talks to me about finding the right one. Says his wife dated 3 other guys in his high school and college days but he never gave up. Then he says after her college days when she broke up with her college boyfriend, he was there and he knew since high school she would be the one. I smiled and then she smiled too but it looked very forced. Then she went to go use the restroom and then the next thing I know, the guy turns to me and gets somewhat confrontational.

"Hey buddy, you need to leave," he said.

"Uh excuse me?" I asked.

"No seriously, you need to stop talking to my girl," he said.

"How about I just watch the game, you and your girl talk to each other, and let that be that?" I replied.

"Uh, buddy, you need to ****ing leave!" he said.

"No," I replied, giving him that stare.

"Leave! LEAVE NOW!" he said.

The bartender comes over and asks if something is wrong. Then the guy turns to the bartender and says I am being disruptive. I tell them I am not being disruptive at all but one bartender who had overheard the whole convo says "well when your wife was here sir it all seemed fine", this bartender knows me. The guy then shouts at the bartender and says "stop taking sides motherf*cker, STOP TAKING SIDES!". Like he shouts to the point the bar hears it. I look at the bartenders and say "look, I'll change seats" at which point the guy looks at me and says "yeah! Your d*mn right!".

Then I couldn't help it and said "didn't have to wait as long for that as you did for your girl to say yes". He gets mad, tosses his plate around, and lunges at me but I dodged. Luckily, the bouncer is in the vicinity and restrains him. The woman comes out and says "oh no not again! NOT AGAIN!". Looks at her husband and says "it's the third time this year!" while shouting at him and he starts crying, she gives him those raging mean eyes.....

I just sit there and then they get escorted out. Guy is shouts in the direction of me and the bartender and says "I will kill you!" but his woman says "you won't do sh*t, you can't even get it up!" at which point the bartenders start laughing along with everyone near them trying to hold in a laugh.

Somehow that brought me back to this thread, both 49ers fans too and the Niners lost.

I don't really watch sports. use to watch the chicago cubs religiously in highschool... but i would rather play sports then watch. it's healthier (unless you strain your knee and have to nurse it for a few month before it is 100%)

I can talk to people about sports (NFL, NBA, MLB, etc), but I'm just to busy and would rather be entertained in other ways. plus, a lot of time the players are ****s.

so yeah, superbowl Sunday is just another day for me.

I use to go for march madness. When you say "sh!tshow", do you mean the following?

1) drunk dudes..
2) drinking everyday
3) friends drinking everyday @ the bar
4) slvtty girls
5) drinking everyday @ the pool
6) big screen tv
7) greasy foods
8) drinking everyday @ the hotel
9) greasy foods
10) (almost forgot) strip clubs
11)sportsbook which is now currently legal in the city I live

Our equivalent in the UK is soccer

Although I do enjoy the game and there are some very interesting dynamics you can take from it there are a lot of downsides

the first being the amount of time you spend most games run two hours , some fans in the UK will routinely travel 3-4 hours for away games it just seems like a massive waste of time and money

Secondly the whole fandom obsession is bizarre when people refer to a team they have absolutely no real affiliation with other than a paid ticket as " we" is beyond wierd

" WE did this well " , " WE may make the playoffs"

its as if they are deriving their entire identity and self worth through a football team

I think it shows a real lack of mental fortitude and character

When people ask me who I support I say I dont support anyone I just enjoy watching the game , if a player plays particularly well I will praise them


People in the Uk also seem to take ridiculous amounts of pride in supporting their local team ( who is usually in a low leauge and crap )

Oh yeah, tailgates. Here's a hot take: the only reason people like watching live sports is because they're drunk. Remove the alcohol and it's boring af and no one wants to be there. "Tailgating" is fun because it's one of the only situations where people will get drunk with each other in public outside of a bar. It sure seems like there are an awful lot of activities in the west that serve as nothing more than a guilt-free excuse to get hammered, it's honestly absurd to me.

Anything becomes fun when alcohol (and food) is involved. Seriously, you can put 10 people into an empty room and give them a few bottles of Jack Daniels and they'll have a good time. Do people not understand this?

Observation I have made here in the UK, as football is huge in this crap hole of a country lol.

The biggest most passionate football fans, are the least active and physicaly fit people I know of.

A bunch of lazy men, admiring a bunch of men who are physically fit.
