I made several comments on this forum this year that Trump had no chance of winning and that it was a foregone conclusion that Clinton would win the presidency. I wanted to post this thread to acknowledge how wrong I was.
I actually made the same prediction....but the truth is, I'm not so sure if Trump WON, but rather, Hillary LOST.

- Let's look at the 2008 Race and the 2012 Race. As you can see, both Mccain and Romney got about 60 million total votes. This time around, Trump is going to end up with again, around 60 million votes once everything finalizes and comes in. So basically Trump got the SAME amount of total votes as Romney and Mccain.

- Obama got 69 million votes in 2008 and 66 million votes in 2012, but Hillary is going to end up around 60 million this time around. This means that 6 - 9 million people did NOT come out for Hillary this time like they did for Obama the two previous cycles.

- Do you want to guess who those 6 - 9 million were? That's right....they were a good chunk of the minorities but mainly the Millennials. The Millennials were the group that put Obama over the amounts needed to win in 2008 and 2012, without the Millennials there would not have been a President Obama....period.

The Millennials were 100% for Bernie Sanders. He had the energy, the excitement, the large crowds, etc., etc. Sanders also represented a liberal's DREAM in terms of everything he wanted to get done. But he caught on FIRE too late....by the time he caught on fire, Hillary was already too far ahead with a gang of Super-Delegates for him to catch her.

What Hillary's "establishment a.ss" should have done....was put Sanders on her VP Ticket and her and Sanders TOURED the entire country (like Trump did) doing rally after rally after rally. If Hillary's "establishment a.ss" would have done that....Trump wouldn't stand a chance.

The demographics nationally are such that NO REPUBLICAN should win the White House. The only way a Republican wins is if the Democrat's voters DO NOT turn out. And that's exactly what happened with Hillary.

Trump didn't win........Hillary lost.

Welcome back, Tenacity. Good observations on Sanders, the millennials, and the turnout. I think another factor is that a lot of Hillary supporters just assumed she would win so they didn't turn out.

Something very interesting is taking place. And it's happening across the Western world.
A complete rejection of globalism, so-called 'diversity', and feminism.
When I was growing up, we viewed western culture as the best in the world and something to be proud of. Over the years, that pride has eroded and we were told that western culture was something we should be ashamed of, and that we needed to give it up to make way for the muslims, the feminists, the globalists, and everyone else who wanted in. Obviously there has been some blowback from all that, and you don't have to look any further than this forum to see it.

I'm still not optimistic that the left is vanquished on more than a temporary level, however. Clinton did win the popular vote, and if Trump doesn't perform there will be another backlash in four years, a liberal one this time.

It's amazing to see people protesting the election results, I'm not sure if I've ever seen that before. Remember all the flak the left threw up over the suggestion that Trump might not accept the election results? Apparently they are not capable of doing it themselves. They call for a united America after the election, but aren't willing to participate.

Yes, on total popular votes. But Trump was able to win some "blue" states, so he outperformed on the electoral map.

Even Paul Ryan admitted something to the effect of Trump pulling off an "incredible political feat."

Could any other Republican have pulled that off? I doubt it.

The super delegates will almost always go for the establishment candidate. That's the whole point of them. Even if Bernie started earlier, he still wouldn't have got the super delegates.

No doubt that a Hillary/Bernie ticket would have been much more competitive. But Hillary chose Kane instead of Bernie because of TPP. She wanted a pro-TPP VP.

Yes, but you have to take a look at the final vote tallies in the battleground states. Look at how extremely close the final tallies are, in my state of Michigan (which they still haven't called BTW) it's like 12,000 votes separating them.

Now go down and look at those same states from the 2012 race. Look at some of the battleground states of OH, PA, MI, NC, and Wisconsin from then. Notice how Hillary got fewer votes in these states in 2016 than Obama got in 2012, while "for the most part" Trump is somewhere around the same range in most of these states.

The total vote tallies matter, Hillary got 6 million fewer votes nationally than Obama got in 2012, when you break that down across all of these states, local counties, etc., that's how Trump was able to tip the electoral college in his favor. Those 6 million fewer votes for Hillary was a result of a good chunk of minorities and Millennials saying they were not going to vote PERIOD, or voting "a little bit more" for the 3rd party candidates which again....did nothing but take away from Hillary.

I don't know, remember Obama took the super delegates from her in 2008. They usually will go to the person who legitimately won in the primaries in terms of total votes. Sanders didn't win in terms of total votes from the voters. He caught on fire too late. Obama was on fire in 2008 out of the gate, by winning Iowa. Sanders didn't start to catch on fire until later.

I just don't think Hillary likes Sanders. Remember the tape of Hillary talking shyt about Sanders supporters being broke, lazy, losers living in their mother's basement?

Unfortunately, Hillary, that's your BASE today lol. The Democratic Party's base is the Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wallstreet, Social Justice Warrior Millennial "types" who believe the system (economic, banking, political, justice, system etc.) is completely and utterly rigged against them.

They voted for Obama in 2008 because he said he would bring CHANGE.

They voted for him again in 2012 but not as MUCH as they did before.

They were not going to come out for Hillary, they were coming out for Bernie Sanders, and if Hillary would have just "held her nose" and embraced her new party's "base"...........she would have won easily because the demographics in the US are such that no Republican should win the White House.

Yes, now can you IMAGINE if people on the Right did the same thing after Obama was elected in 2008 or re-elected in 2012? They would have been crying racism every 5 minutes, Van Jones would be on CNN talking about "white flash", and various others would be talking about how "disappointed" they are in the country for hating a black man.

But of course, when it's Trump or even GW Bush, well....you can talk shyt about them all day. You can protest/march against them all day. You can mock, roast, crack jokes, throw shoes, throw rocks, etc., at them all day.....the Left calls that "democracy".

Remember you couldn't even criticize an Obama policy without being called racist or Uncle Tom if you were black.

It's why I don't like the Republicans or Democrats, they operate like the WWE/WWF. In public they program the nation to think they hate each other and DIVIDE us based on dumb a.ss shyt like race (which nobody even gives a fvck about anymore)........while behind the scenes they are laughing, joking, drinking beers, and being "best buds".

I totally agree about not being able to criticize Obama. And I was sure we were headed for another four years where I couldn't criticize Hillary without being labeled a sexist. I guess if Bernie had won, I would be called an anti-semite for calling him out on his BS. So I'm somewhat relieved to feel like I can openly criticize our POTUS w/o being labeled something that I'm not.

Leave it to me to be the conspiracy theorist. I think the elections are rigged. In 2008 Ron Paul was the Bernie Sanders of that election. He had huge crowds at every event he attended. He had Democrats, Republicans and Independents voting for him and he stood on a message of fiscal change.
I forget the state, but I remember Ron Paul losing that state to Huckabee (could've been another candidate), who had to cancel rallies because of low attendance. Ron Paul was real change and he was snuffed out.

I believe Hillary was told to sit out 2012 and run in 2016. She got this from the people who decide elections. But somewhere along the line they changed their minds. Either the military industrial complex or someone else pulled the plug on Hillary. This is why she's so distraught. She didn't give a concession speech because she knows the people who voted for her, had no say in the matter.

I think she likely didn't address her people the night of the election is that she truly is ill and didn't have the strength. She probably would not have been able to keep it together.
I can live with that and even understand to a degree. But remaining silent while her supporters light fires and cause destruction and violence is unforgivable - for both she and Obama. It's pathetic and disgusting. Hypocritical with a capital H.

I'm actually not surprised Hillary lost. I am surprised that Trump is president. Seems comical that he went from 'You're fired' to the president. If she were to have won, that really would have proven that Politics can be bought.

Honestly, if it were Bernie vs Trump, I really do think Bernie would have won. But he sold out unfortunately...

I'm not sure that I agree. I think Bernie's appeal is mostly limited to the younger crowd, who don't understand that there just really aren't enough rich people to tax in order to make everything free. Hence Hillary's (quite accurate) comment about his supporters living in their parents' basements. Many of these kids truly have no idea how economics works or where money really comes from. This doesn't make them bad people at all, just uninformed. I think they had/have tremendous passion for him and his positions, but as they age they will come to understand that much of what he promised is unrealistic.
He's dead on right about unchecked greed and corporations. I'm mostly a free market guy, but even I understand that there needs to be some rules and structure in place as a hedge against the natural and unchecked greed of man.
