One thing I can say is that I used to have bad overeating problem. Just to the point where I would make myself sick. I don't have that any longer, probably because I used to eat so many chips it would make me sick. Anyway progress not perfection. I woke up early today and walked. I have been walking just to feel good lately. I haven't really worked hard at working out for awhile, but it has been on my mind to really put in a big effort. We will see. I feel like I have lost weight, but it doesn't make me feel all that great. I think there are subtle things that have happened to me that I don't see but I sense people respect me more and I know if my dad comments that I look good, that is a big deal because he is pretty rough on me.

Diet is about taking it one day at a time. It can look very daunting sticking to it for a month or more. You'll slowly grow into it.

Thanks for the advice. I have avoided cookies, cakes, crackers, soda, sweets, most fruit (tomatoes I eat) so for that is a miracle. I used to eat bags and bags of chips. As my inner game and being calm gets better, the less I attempt to use food to manage my emotions.

No problem. I assume you want to lose weight, right? You should DEFINITELY avoid carbs after 6 pm. It is imperative that you avoid them. You can eat fruit at breakfast. If you prefer juice, DO NOT add any sugar to it. Also keep sodium low. Cook with no butter or oil. If you are eating grilled chicken, add water to the pan ONLY. Eat small amount of carbs during breakfast and lunch. Don't over do it. Tuna is a great to eat when you are trying to lose weight. Low calories, no fat and plenty of protein. Fish, chicken, plenty of salad, turkey will do you good.

Hey Demonpenz,

Good for you to sticking to your self-improvement plan! I know you've gotten lots of tips and you might be sick of them, but I'll add my 2 1/2 cents anyway. I will DEFINITELY not say that I'm an expert but I've read a LOT of material from people that are....

Get the book "The Primal Blueprint" by Mark Sisson. It's a slight variation on the Paleo diets out there. It's VERY straightforward and it makes a lot of sense. You never feel hungry, and you never work out to excess. But you WILL have to give up anything processed, including all wheat, sugar and starches, although you can have an indulgence here and there so you don't fall off the wagon. You just live like we've evolved to over the last 2 million years. Common sense. It also explains how we should exercise, based on evolution. I can send an electronic version to you if you like. Or go to his website: marksdailyapple.com

Beyond that....

For a beautiful SCIENTIFIC explanation for weight loss/gain and how we got to where we are today, read:
"Why We Get Fat" by Gary Taubes. It will forever change how you view Conventional Wisdom about weight loss.

Also "Wheat Belly"
"Grain Brain"
"Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food"
"Eat Fat, Lose Fat"
"Engineering the Alpha"
"Primal Body, Primal Mind"

I can actually send you copies of all these books if you like.

Also try and get the movies:
"Fat Head" (very entertaining and informative)
"In Search of the Perfect Human Diet"

Basically, eat lots of natural protein and fat and get your carbs from vegetables and some fruit. Stay away from anything that comes in any kind of wrapper.

I started living this way 2 years ago and have lost at least 25 lbs of fat and gained plenty of muscle without ever depriving myself or feeling hungry. BTW I'm 6'4" and 195lbs with single digit body fat percentage.

I also only work out 20 minutes day, 5 days a week. Short, intense sessions of weights and interval sprint cardio combined with lots of walking (when I can).

Anyway, don't take my word for it. Read the books and watch the movies if you can.

And keep up the good work!

Thank you. I haven't eaten any bread, cookies, cakes, soda, crackers, I have stayed away from high sugar fruits. I have eaten chicken, cheese, steak, veggies etc for a couple months. Seems to help with my energy. Thanks for your book selection. If you have one book to send me I will try to read it. JUST PICK ONE BOOK THOUGH haha I already have a decent reading schedule.

I am going to check out that book. I got a comment from my roomate "Do you even eat anymore?" so I take that my weight loss is visual now. I worked out for 3 miles today. Just a nice walk. I did another day of low carb.

I have lots of energy and I think some of that is because I cut out the chips and cookies. I still walk a bit each day to get some calories burned and to clear my head. I still have a gut and I am not ripped, but the girl I am dating said she liked my chest. I took that as a win, even though I still have a bit of man boobs. I am grateful to have lived long enough to see actual results. An actual girl texts me and likes me. Wow it has been awhile for that. I think that I really sacrificed on the inside and my attitude and my aura (Sp?) is pretty good these days. I still have it in my mind that I am going to do some heavy working out to get my leanness down. I am glad that I didn't gain any weight over the holidays and I actually lost weight.

I continue to do a bit of walking. Nothing big. Still no cookies, chips, or crackers.

Gary Taubes is wrong, you don't get fat from eating carbs.

You mentioned the gym in several comments. I suggest you start lifting weights. Start slow and get some advise. Weightlifting will cause your testosterone level to rise. Mr. T will help you lose fat, build muscle, give you energy and make you feel better.

I had not trained with weights since my early 20's. I started lifting in October and the difference in 5 months is quite extraordinary. My arms and chest have changed a lot.

Not yet ripped, but working to get there.

I love lifting weights, but I get burned out. The thing I hate which is I push myself hard in the gym lifting weights then I crash at work or I hate the rest of my life is sore. I keep on paying the price at the table and I still make steady price when I go walking. I do feel better

I am attracting girls and I am still working out. It doesn't feel as good as I thought it would. I guess I have lots of internal things to sort out, but I am glad of course that I put in the hours. I walked a couple miles today and I am glad I put in the hours to atleast know how to get to the gym and how to back off the eating.

Have you tried calisthenics? A couple of my friends added it to their cardio routine, and while it didn't give them as much muscles as weightlifting will, it certainly did give them muscles and they lost a lot of fat. According to them it is around 15-20 minutes a day that they do a couple times a week.

I have a couple girls now. One of them said "I just want to sit here and look at you" when I had my shirt off. So I am not ripped, but I really need that to settle in to my mind of how far I have come.

I have been pretty good as of late. I haven't ate chips, cookies, pop, or trash for long time. I still just do light workouts. I feel good and lots of people told me I lost weight. I get some sexy looks from girls which is weird and they are obvious about it. I paid the price and my overall happiness is pretty good.

I did Bench yesterday and bi's and back today. New girl in my life who is awesome, it felt good to actually be back lifting today. I had a mental block for along time (2 months) I just wasn't interesting to lift weights. I was still walking and doing light work and of course giving up cookies, chips, pop, bread. So I am glad I put in the work. Deep level of satisfaction.
