Here is a premise which cannot be defeated:

If one has a life full of meaningful activity external to this forum, they can't possibly have time to devote to adding over 10 posts of substance to the discourse here in a day.

The only people who can't see the fallacy of this statement are bound to have very small brains.

Having said that I say we give the rule a try. It's not hurting me or most others a lot. If anything maybe the post count restriction will harm the AE section, but maybe that's OK.

Here's two solutions that would require VERY limited work. Assign post count by reputation level (easy).
OR

Exclued the Anything Else forum from the 10-post rule so that people can talk about anything else w/o effecting their post count. If anything it will make Anything Else less of a joke and more active........10% down. :p
Everyone has an equal opinion. Just because you have posted stuff that has worked for others in the past does not mean that it is applicable to everyone. Every poster should be given equal say although they may not all be saying the same thing (or the right thing) Perspectivism at it's finest

I think that me be what is going on here; it is an attempt to kill the AE and H&F sections. I have never seen a web site get so pissy about off-topic discussion. Most web forums have an off-topic section that is not even moderated; they tell people to not go in there if they don't like the lack of rules. But I'm guessing the sosuave powers-that-be are irked about having to pay the bandwidth cost of off-topic discussion. The heavy-handed moderation and far-reaching practice of closing any thread that is the slightest bit religious or political in nature supported this anti-AE policy.

Someone made the analogy of it being like someone who goes to McDonald's to just sit there and not buy anything. I agree with that analogy, but I'd take it one step further to say that McDonald's does not kick people out! Unless you are bothering customers, they are pretty much happy to have you there. No one is holding a stop-watch to you while you sit and eat, either. The new sosuave rule is like the McDonald's manager coming out after ten minutes and kicking you out until tomorrow, telling you that anyone who sits in McDonald's for 11 minutes in one day is obviously a big fat loser.

McDonald's operates that way because it is simply good business. You guys say this site is not a business, but sosuave.com is pitching newsletters and selling ads. I realize this forum is not making anyone rich, and I am grateful that it does exist, but there is money changing hands. It is at least a business in that sense, enough so that it is only reasonable that they not insult people for their mere presence.

I had to chime in to say that I have seen several McDonalds with signs giving a strict 20 minute time limit, though these were in sketchy neighborhoods (kind of like this forum.)

I think 10 posts is about as high as it gets for you, anyways. Do you think 7 posts per day per forum makes more sense?

You girlys need to stop whinning. "The forum will be dead!" "All the good posters will leave!" Gimmie a f*cking break. It's an internet forum. Sure it makes you cool, somehow, to be a good poster but honestly 10 post a day is more then sufficient for the superior mind. If you need to address someones individual issue with your divine knowledge you can PM them or vice versa. Necessity does not require you to make 50 to 60 post a day. Honestly why does everyone fear change in something that shouldn't be that much of a significant part of their lives. I have major changes at my job all the time that I despise at first but the ceo's do things their way and I have to obey. There's a period of discomfort but you get use to changes faster then you think when your money is on the line. This is an easy change to go through in what is for all of us our leasure lives.

I don't understand why everyone is so worried. I personally have maybe posted ten times a day two times.

It's not that big of a deal.

You don't give too much advice to the Forum. You don't get 3 or 4 or 5 people asking you for advice in a particular thread(s). That alone takes 50% of the post count.

I mean...you are HALF my age. On experience alone...I potentially bring TWICE as much experience than you (at the very least).

I think the 10-post rule succeeded in reducing the quanity. A lot of members are hardly posting at all now. But I don't think it raised the quality. The rule seems to have caused a lower quanity of quality.

I disagree with that analogy. SoSuave isn't strictly selling a product in a physical space. This sites sells is based on and dependent on traffic. I don't think they instituted the 10-post rule for business reasons anyway really.

Edit: I should've made these 2 post one post heh.

No, most of the people are just using their 10 to talk about the rule.

True. I don't mind using some of my valuable posts here. Expressing my opinion.

The true, free-flowing, open discussion we are used to can't survive this rule. Let's hope it's temporary--there are plenty of things they can do to stop people who are posting 30 to 40 times a day and trolling.

I am pretty sure those people are in the minority.

I've gotten to the point where I don't really want to deal with this website too much now because it's a hassle to make any posts, but this might be a good thing because sosuave.com is not my life. I like to help, but I need to be bettering myself anyway. That's what's most important, and I don't need to post in order to read the GREAT tips and articles on this site. Maybe this will force more newbies to read the tips and articles rather than take the easy way out and ask question after question. I know a few that abuse it, and their threads get so long.

Maybe I'll continue to put some tips out there. I need to be spending more time out there widening my circles and enjoying myself, anyway.

So, do what you want with this site. I'll certainly be ok with it. I don't really need anymore, but I'll hang around for a little while.

My post just got deleted in the "DJ cheat sheet" thread.

I guess there is a 1 post rule now.

If this place were more demacratic this would make a difference, however, i believe this place is more totalitarianistic (is that even a word?). I agree with what youre trying to do, but i dont think THEY really care, unfortunately.

I don't post more than 10 posts a day, however, there are times I post more frequently than others, so I don't like this rule at all.

How can one justify how many posts is allowed for a member to post in a day? How about if there is a member who doesn't frequenly visit the forum, but when he/she does visit the forum, he/she posts alot?

Ah well, I suppose it is to prevent abuse, but 10 posts isn't alot..
