Hate to break it to you, but some people aren't financially in a place to be allocating resources outside the system. Once people get successful due to luck, they lose touch of reality, and think everyone has that capability. They don't... I know, I know it was all hard work and persistence etc.... Tell that to all the people out there who did work hard, and didn't get the break.. For every successful story like yours, there's 10 others of people failing even though they put in just as much effort as you.
Once one gets to a certain level of lacking resources, it's like quicksand. The deeper you go, the harder it is to get out. Maybe he's not in a position to "level up". It's hard when eating takes up a sizeable portion of your finances... At least he has the nuts to take some kind of action even if it is "petty".
Very few people get successful due to luck. Was it lucky that I taught myself software engineering and grinded away at it for several years after I got home from work each day for free prior to getting hired professionally?
Was it luck that I went back to school full.time and worked full time for 2.5 years to obtain my CS degree?
Was it luck that I actively worked my ass off once hired and put myself in position to triple my salary in 6 years by aggressively switching jobs every year or two rather than staying comfy at one job?
People only see the end result they never see the many hours of hard work that led up to it. People unwilling to make hard, uncomfortable decisions in their own lives deem it luck when they see the results others who are willing to make those decisions have.
Choosing the easy, comfortable, resistant to change path in your life gives you the least opportunity for growth both personally, professionally and financially.
Funny how so many people in all different situations seem to get lucky after working their asses off for many years prior without much to show for it but simply never gave up. Perseverance, dedication, drive and desire will get you farther than you know.
Try it sometime.
Most people who complain about their lives and their jobs and their situations just like to hear themselves talk because when I ask what they have done to actively change any of it in the last 6 months, they have a blank look on their face and don't have anything to say.
The reason you are in whatever situation you are in today is because you put yourself there with your decisions you have made in your life.
Stop blaming anyone else, the government, your Mom, your girlfriend and start owning the decisions YOU made that led you there.
The good thing is you can also choose to extract yourself from that situation by making different decisions going forward. Most won't bother because it's easier to do nothing and just talk.
Kinda like we say with women. Actions >>>> Words
