What bothers me is that people are reacting to this coronavirus with a kind of panic as if it is a certain death sentence, which Trump is trying to diffuse, and rightfully so.
COVID-19 is not the only coronavirus. It is one of 4 other common coronaviruses (229E, NL63, OC43, and HKU1), and there are several less common ones as well. Most of us here on the forum have probably fallen ill to one of these viruses before. In fact, 20% of common colds are caused by a coronavirus. But if you watch CNN, they'll have you thinking the Black Plague is coming, and that Trump can care less.
What makes the COVID-19 virus newsworthy at all is that there is currently no vaccination against it available to the public. Naturally this makes it harder to contain, easier to spread and can increase the likelihood of symptoms being more severe compared to other flus in which people have been vaccinated for or have already had a similar strain. But it doesn't mean you're going to die.
If you're elderly or already have a compromised immune system, you might be in some trouble, but for healthy adults who have had the flu before, you're probably going to be just fine after going through a sh*tty experience.
What bothers me even more is that all of this over the top panic is hurting people with other health problems. My daughter is currently fighting cancer and one of those previously mentioned people with a compromised immune system due to chemo. She has a broviac tube in her chest that goes straight to her heart. It is covered by a bandage that has to be changed every week to prevent infection, which sometimes has to be done at home. This requires sterile gloves, face masks, etc.... things that the stores are now sold out of everywhere because everyone thinks the sky is falling.
The MSMs panic coverage of this virus is having a worse effect on my every day life than Trump's tweet is, I can assure you of that.
Think of it as an opportunity to invest in the markets at deep discounts....Trump is a buffoon. He’s a global laughing stock that no one takes seriously. The market crash is due to his own incompetence. Ironically, him and his right wing cranks have been exposed to this virus at CPAC. Some are already practicing self-quarantine. This level of buffoonery would otherwise be hilarious if it wasn’t so damn scary.
The panic is infectious. There are plenty of social experiments where if a group of people are looking up at a building, a bystander might look up as well and see what the commotion is about. What bothers me is that people are reacting to this coronavirus with a kind of panic as if it is a certain death sentence, which Trump is trying to diffuse, and rightfully so.

My folks are elderly so I can't afford to get this.Nevertheless, it's just a respiratory illness that's killed mainly the elderly and infirm.
I hear by the spring this should go away because these type of viruses don't live in warmer/humid environments.samspade said:Cases in China have plummeted. Italy will corral it, too, and in a few weeks some new story will dominate the cycle for people to freak out about. Unfortunately the damage has been done with canceled events and flights, and the result will be a slowed economy.
Who cares about Trump before the presidency, the issue is how he is running in his office today. Most media outlets will show that Trump has made over 4,000 + blatantly false statements since he was in office. He asked for China to investigate Biden infront of the cameras on the lawn of the White house while the impeachment process was being started. Some of his supporters believe the virus is a hoax because he suggested it was a Democrat conspiracy to undermine the presidency. What other president has degraded the office of the president to such a pappyshow as much as he has?sampede said:As for Trump, I don't really know how smart or dumb he is. He's just a guy. He did lose millions running a casino which is hard to believe. If you gave me a month to prepare, I would do a better job, but I can say that about every president since '92 or so.
Teh,if you think that's crazy, look at what Katie Hopkins said about Trump's "grab'em by the p*ssy" comment.I know women from the most liberal bastions of Cali who like and voted for Trump because "He's not a pvssy". Their words.
Trump is illegitimate. The premise you base this opening on is false. Trump's election was akin to a royal flush; an incompetent baboon who got extremely lucky. He ran in a change election against an incumbent party's most unpopular candidate ever, who was also female. He also committed widespread treason yet still managed to lose the popular vote by 3 million. That hardly constitutes a governing mandate. Don't model your political career after Trump; everyone politician who tries ends up out of a job.I think you're grossly underestimating the reason why he was elected and is very likely be re-elected: I know women from the most liberal bastions of Cali who like and voted for Trump because "He's not a pvssy". Their words. Not mine. I've heard all kinds of people say the same over and over, and these are people without strong political biases: Independents, people who in some cases vote D, etc.
The United States was more respected five years ago then today.A lot of people voted for him exactly because people felt like the Presidency hasn't been respected on the world stage through previous administrations, and I don't just mean Obama, but all of them going back to probably Reagan. Respected and liked are two very different things.
I'm sure China respects Trump even though they probably hate him. Canada, Mexico, more of the same. European leaders may disrespect him, but they all eventually come to the table and make a deal with him.
Clearly you weren't paying attention to the shellacking Republicans experienced in 2018. But it's cool if you don't accept the math.I can certainly see why liberals hate Trump. He's often pompous and does a good job of riling you guys up. But just because people who never liked him anyway hate him 100X more now doesn't mean there is a blue tide coming to the White House. I will say this though: I think a Democrat will win in 2024, because no Republican will be able to fill his shoes and we all know it. Any R candidate will bound to be a disappointment to the base by comparison.
You are correct. I hate Trump significantly more than any conventional Republican. I'm ideologically opposed to Mitt Romney and John Kaisich, but at least they aren't fvcking idiots. It's due to panic, and Liberals want to skin him for not acting that way.
Personally, I don't think Obama reacted lax when the H1N1 pandemic was making headlines worldwide, even though a lot of conservatives are now taking swipes at him over it lately. But Trump has not done things much differently than Obama did really. They both declared emergencies prior to them becoming pandemics and they both secured roughly 8 billion in funding to fight it. Why Trump is incompetent while Obama is not, or vice versa, is mostly just political bias.
It doesn't change the fact that the way Italy (which the whole country is in lockdown - BTW I'm Italian myself) so that hits close to home. Any mortality from this new virus, is a new death which would not have occurred in the first place if this virus never existed -- wouldn't we agree that one extra unnecessary death is one too much? The mortality rate of the common flu is way much lower, and in the decimal points, so it does not pale in comparison to the common seasonal flu if it's a .5% rate, that's like 300% times higher mortality than the common flu.The 30-day mortality rate for patients hospitalized for pneumonia is 5 - 10 %.
SARS had a mortality rate of 10%.
MERS had a mortality rate of 37%.
Rabies has a mortality rate of 99.9% when not treated in a timely manner.
Right now the Coronavirus virus is estimated to have a 2-3% mortality rate. Yes, more than the common flu, but it pales by comparison to other viruses. Public Health officials have come out in an attempt to inform people that their risk remains low, that mortalities are focused in older and already sick people, that there have been no deaths reported in children or that otherwise healthy adults risk death. But the panic wont subside. Watch the news and it's no wonder why.
okay,Please provide the video where Trump asked China to invest the Bidens.
As for the rest, who gives a $hit what the unthinking media says? They are mostly fake news.
What? I didn't realize that! (Flees to grocery store)MERS had a mortality rate of 37%.
Yep. He’s so scared of Biden he extorted the President of a foreign country.Look at all the conspiracy theory $hit in here.
Trump beat the Bush dynasty and then the Clinton dynasty. All while the media was trash talking him as mich as possible.
But it was pure luck apparently....LOLLLLLL
Look deeper. Republicans lost the popular vote by 8.6% in the House and 20% in the Senate. Republicans kept control all those years by extreme gerrymandering, not by actually winning electoral majorities. They lost so badly in 2018 those districts were cracked. An incumbent President should really be concerned facing a 7% generic ballot deficit in a Presidential cycle.Lets talk math then.
It has been a historical trend for the ruling party to lose seats in midterm elections, regardless of the party in power....and it wasn't a really a shellacking by any means in 2018.
Republicans lost 41 seats in the house in 2018, but Obama lost 63 in 2010. Republicans gained seats in the senate in 2018 while Obama lost 6. If Trump was shellacked, what do you call Obama's loses?
Lets look further.
Republicans gained control of the House in 1994. It took Democrats 12 years to get it back (2006) only to lose it again 4 years later under Obama's first term (2010). Republicans kept control for another 8 years after that.
Realignments are normal and they were expected in 2018 (took Dems long enough). In fact, it was a little of a pleasant surprise when Republicans actually picked up seats in the Senate that year.
You're biased by your politics, not the math.
A leader of a nation even making a suggestion sounds like he is asking. Its like your boss saying that you should do something. As I'm unbiased I look at the face value of what I'm seeing on the video. I don't have to go through some acrobatics. Even if your argument held any water at all, then at minimum he's making a mockery out of the premise of the impeachment proceedings and is not behaving appropriately doing so effectively making the office a pappyshow. You don't see that a big pappyshow is going on, even if you were correct?Except he didn't ask them to do anything.
He said they should investigate them, because there were crooked dealings going on.
No. It’s a polling aggregate. That’s a running average of all reputable generic polls of the last 2 years.Which is based on polls... which often suffer from bias in research design. Those numbers typically come from research performed by Hart Research Associates, who's president worked for Hillary Clinton's campaign and provides data for NBC polls.
That polling aggregate was dead-on accurate in both 2016 and 2018.And apparently liberals still haven't learned about polling data.
Did you forget what the polls predicted in 2016 already?
When a Democrat comes back at me with poll data, I have to laugh. The Trump Derangement Syndrome is going to reach Pandemic proportions in November.
The accellerated rate of transmission is the crisis here. It is misleading to downplay the 3% rate without considering that basically all of us are going to get it. If half the US gets it, the body count is about 4.5 million people.Right now the Coronavirus virus is estimated to have a 2-3% mortality rate. Yes, more than the common flu, but it pales by comparison to other viruses.
Yep, imagine how many ICE salaries or miles of fence that 8 something billion for virus fighting would build…We should seal the borders to reduce the acceleration.
They didn’t.Like the ones that predicted Bernie would win the primary nomination a few weeks ago?
Like the ones that predicted Clinton winning Michigan, Florida, Wisconsin and PA in 2016?
I'd love to see the polls the MSM reported on daily that were spot on and had Trump winning the election.
