prefer megadeth of the two I know of in the poll. Their songs are alot more fun to play than the metallica versions. Though Kill em all & MoP is really great albums. So many great bands, pantera is def up there as well.

Rock on I like Megadeth too...Youthenasia is my absolute favorite metal album of all time.

I like Metallica too but really, who DOESN'T know at least one Metallica chorus? You're right in pointing out there were and are alot of serious metal bands out there so it's hard to narrow the field to just a few.

Tool is such a sick band. Danny Carey is a monster on the drums, a god if you will. I got to see them live last year and omg they put on a show. They are one of my favorites and the only "newer" band that I like. I'm much more into the classic stuff like Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, AC/DC, Hendrix. I guess my favorite metal band would be Death though. A lot of you guys probably don't know who they are but they kick major ass. If you want to listen to them, then click this :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm9pNmBFZHw. They are extremely heavy and extremely good, and I don't even like death metal. Talk about good drummers though, Richard Christy was in Death and imho he is very very underrated. Some of you might know him from the vHoward Stern show, but man can he pound the skins.

Added a thinking man's dimension to metal...Metallica mostly sang about evil and imaginary dragons and shiat...

What?! Sounds like you put "Enter Sandman" on repeat. Metallica has some of the deepest music I've ever listened to.

I'm planning on going to see Disturbed and Sevendust this summer when the Mayhem tour hits Fresno.

mosh in a pit for me!! then get way up front by the stage in front of a speaker that almost blows your eardrums and when the pit pushes into the crowd behind you and everyone pushes into you and you get squeezed in between the crowd and the stage or the bar that goes in front of the stage..smile and think of me.. then kick someone in the knee!
and if the crowd surfing starts.. pray you land on stage! and if a security dude knocks your butt down in mid air.. get right back out there and do it again!

lol! I'm hardcore, but I'm not hardcore enough to do that. Its gonna be in a stadium so I don't even know if there will be a mosh pit. Idk, it will be my first concert.

Megadeth by a mile. No other band can rival such disparate songs as "Tornado of Souls", "My Last Words", or "High Speed Dirt". The 'Deth approached different subjects with different musical moods and techniques, and managed excellence in almost all their works.

Rounding out the top five are Opeth, Sabbath, The Crown, and Testament.

Metallica might have influenced the popular metal sound in the eighties, but I find their sound rather formulaic and monotonous. It's hard to listen to a full Metallica album without getting bored (except perhaps "Ride the Lightning")

Besides, everyone knows Metallica pussed out from the Black album on, and eventually sold out and became whiny old men.

Slayer makes some catchy riffs, but they tend to lack variety much like Metallica. At least Slayer didn't sell out like Metallica, though.

Lamb of God? Please...

P.S. Pantera and Korn had much more influence on (crappy) late 90's nu-metal/rap-metal than crusty old Metallica.

P.P.S. Tool is not a metal band. They're great prog rock, but are in no way metal.

1.Pantera was my favorite band but we have to face the music Dimebag is dead and Pantera and Damageplan doesn't exist anymore.
2.I consider Disturb as a Nu-Metal band which isn't completely metal.
3. COB is a great band but I just couldn't leave Grammy Winner Lamb of God out.

I love so many styles of music, I don't say this about a lot of bands...but Megadeth blows!!! Listening to them makes me want to punch a baby in the face and chug a gallon of cyanide. I can't stand them.

Megadeth blows?

Megadeth's latest album was a real shame but can you say the same about early Megadeth? What do you think of Rust in Peace?Does it also make you want punch a kid in the face and chug a gallon of cyanide? If it does then it's absolutely okay because taste varies but I'm just curious.
