Well I went to Wal Mart tonight and had the Xbox360 kiosk all to myself. The kiosk included two demos which was King Kong and the other one being Call of Duty 2.

King Kong as far as a 'quick impression' goes...played like crap with animation that struggled to maintain the 30fps that we are used to. For general graphics, some of the body parts look disjointed simply from waht appears to be a lack in polygons. The enviroments and effects on the other were pretty neat, but no where "Next Genearation"

The next demo was Call of Duty 2. Gameplay was really nice but the whole idea of this post is basically graphical impressions. The graphics in this game were smooth, detailed and with a taste of Next-Generation. Once again, I didnt get a "WOW" factor and if Im going to pay around $500 for a so called next generation system, please show me the goods.

The rest of the kiosk was built on videos, from car games like Test Drive (which looked pretty cool) to Need for Speed next gen. The videos looked good and looks to me that the graphics were in-game. Still though, kinda dissapointed if this is to be the successor of the Xbox. The sports games looked pretty cool, again, same old thing as I posted above.

Based on the Kiosk being shown on high def tv, the games looked like a polished version of the Xbox. Its like the Xbox on steriods. Nice effects, environments, extra polys thrown around but overall it doesnt feel like a huge upgrade in comparison to the systems that are out now. Save your cash and stick to what you got for now and wait for the PS3 or until there is a price drop/packaged offer from the Xbox360.

Dont get me wrong, if you do happen to get it dont consider it a waste of money. A leap from this generation but still not quite there. Best way I can put it is Xbox 1.5...instead of Xbox2.

firstly, i'm not in the slightest interested in xbox360. I don't play my xbox 1.

but you've got to understand the capabilities of the system will not be pushed until atleast a year after release. Probably longer.

Compare any game with a successor on xbox. surely the graphics in the successor are far more polished, and look like a bigger increase in difference between the N64/ps1.

but at the end of the day, video games are alot like smoking pot.

they give you something to do that'll cure you're boredom. but do it too much, and your life will stagnate, or even worse, go backwards.

Compare Halo: CE with Halo: 2.

Same platform, huge difference in visual quality.

I think that's fairly indicative, don't you?

Give it some time.

You people expect too much out of these systems.

You want them to give you head and mind read your movements at the same time playing Halo 3 and watching porn.

You need to realize this is the next generation, not the next next next generation.

I'm really getting sick of the whole Xbox1.5 analogy, that's stupid. If anything the current xbox should be considered xbox 1.5 because of the advancements it made in the way we think about how a video game should act, load, and behave.

The xbox 1 was just ahead of it's time. Having built in HD tv support was something very uncommon in 2000 when very few people actually knew about HDTV.

Now with the xbox 360 being able to support 1080i, with the possibility of 1080p iirc, really shows what the "next generation" will entail.

The xbox 360 also makes huge advancements in gameplay capability thanks to having a tri-core processor. Now you can have 1 core devoted to physics engines, 1 core devoted to AI, and the final core devoted to other gameplay features. This is a huge advancement that you don't quite realize just looking at some kiosk in wal-mart

These things are just the tip of the iceberg for what the 360 is capable of.

Frankly I'm not dissapointed in the slightest in the xbox 360, I think it's doing everything the next gen should, and then some. The only thing that bothers me about the 360 is that the hard drive does not come stock, and MS really spent a lot of time to prevent modding the 360, but I'm sure given a couple weeks, that'll be worthless.

sorry for the off topic rant

video games died in 2000

2-D is still king and I would much rather play a super NES game over a 3-D game.

most new games have no story line while 2-D games fit such a nicer storyline onto it.

N64 lived up to its hype a little bit but not too much.

I think I'll save my money and play 2-D games. :p

btw Halo is still just another shooter. nothing spectacular at least from my perspective.

Re:

From what I know of the XBOX and XBOX 360 its the most versatile of all systems. Friends of mine moded the XBOX and were able to download lots of free movies, videos, porn, games. You can even rip rented games on it. They expanded the drive to 80g+ and house all their multi media on it.

Essentially this is what the XBOX 360 will do, albeit legally.

I do know it seems more next gen games seem rather short in their storyline, yet long in their visual effect.

Halo 1 was very long, lengthy scenes, and if done right, brilliant. Played on a big tv, with a compadre, surround sound, and enough saturday time, you can have a blast. The visual effect of halo is stunning.

Halo 2 was meant to be an XBOX live game more than anything. It is a fantastic game as a single shooter, but it has a boring idea: defeat all the characters in the immediate area and the door opens allowing you to move along. I hate that.

Fable, another great XBOX game, is very easy. The story is awesome. You choose between good and evil, but the game is very easy and it's not much you can do about making it tough on yourself. I have found Playstation to be great at RPG's, bust most RPG's are gone with SNES, and Nintendo (Zelda, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, etc).

Yet, the games are more stunning than deep. That's the gripe. 2-d games were not stunning, but they were deep. The RPG's were deep, since graphics couldn't do it. They easily lasted a HARD 70 hours. XBOX or PS2 will claim 70 hours, but it will be an easy 70 that you could almost put on automatic pilot.

I think of Final Fantasy 7 as one of the great all around games. It pushed Playstation's graphic capabilities. It was fun. It had lots of time, lots of flexibility in the landscape, and lots of story.

To me, games have to have a good story and good visual effect. The better the story the more you play it. When the story wains, you drop the game. Graphics help, but they're just like benies on a car. That's it, to me.

Sports are awesome, but most enthusiasts want REALISTICS games. Tiger Woods' isn't very realistic, though it is fun. I've always wanted a PGA tour licensed game that was like playing the real tour, and I think any golfing enthusiast would, too.

Those are my thoughts anyways, and I'm not some Sony CEO.

Well you gotta do some math.

Hardly anyone is going to buy the core package, so that bumps it to 399, then + a game, most 60 dollars +tax is just a little under 500 depending on where you live.

LOL! Bring out the guns gentleman! :)

Basically its a "cost/is it worth it factor" in my eyes. If the 360 included the hardrive at $300, then it would be a different story. I make decent enough coin so that an extra $100 wont be an issue, but I look at value.

Yes, the XBox360 is actually being under utilized since the alpha kits didnt come out until when....September? So to get a bunch of titles (and some of them obviously feel rushed...King Kong take for example) in time for launch was actually quite an accomplishment.

But does me, the consumer care about those accomplishments? No.

As far as expectations of what next-gen is supposed to be, it is all relative, really. I guess one way you can measure is on paper, how much polys a system can push, to what effects, etc.

For me its what I see on-screen. And what I saw wasnt all that impressive..and yes, I do expected to be a bit wooed since Im used generation leaps, Nintendo to SuperNES.....Playstation to Dreamcast/Playstation 2/Xbox.

And waht I saw this time was a leap made similar from the Dreamcast to Xbox. A leap was made, but definately not to consider it worthy of next-generation

ANd YES, I do understand about time it takes to reach a systems potential (which is why Id like to take the wait and see approach instead of fighting in line with other people that get caught up in system launch hype).

There are some nice games for the Xbox360,and if my post sounded like a bashing, it wasnt. As I stated before, its not like you are burning money down the drain on a system with hardly any potential. Hell, Bioware is supporting it and cant wait to see the next Halo on it.

I merely pointed out its not worth the price for paying top dollar for first generation games that were rushed. At least when the PS2 came out, it had the advantage of being a DVD/Videogame player.

Now I gotta pay over $500 for someting that looks a bit better than what I already have??

And yeah, after seeing Metal Gear Solid for the PS3 and a few other games in comparison to Xbox360, damn right I do have EXPECTATIONS.

Also, long live 2D gaming! I still love it to this day!

By the way, best game ever was Snatcher on the SEGA CD. Anyone remember Sega Channel??

A-Unit, I used to be a fan boy Sega fan with the Genesis and all, but was somewhat converted to the SuperNES for the RPG factor. Final Fantasy, ChronoTrigger, etc.....classics.

One RPG which I heard was the cream of the crop was Panzer Dragoon Oarta (forgot how it was spelled). Came out for either Sega CD or the Saturn.

anyone know anything about the revolution? how does it compare to the 360 and ps3..is it even worth buying?

though from time i always thought nintendo had the better graphics in each generation..n64 owned the psone..dreamcast owned the psone graphic wise too.
i agree there isnt much difference betwn this genegration console example ps2 and the dreamcast,i felt the dreamcats was ahead of its time thats why it flopped.

Re:

My thought would be to wait until both drop and get both.

For as long as memory serves correct, each system had it's own perks unique to the system that made it worth owning.

Most households need 2 dvd players.

And if you wait, inevitably the 400$ version will hit at least 300 when the new ps3 drops and halo 3 will also be released. You can scoop up the 400 version (which is a must based on what you need to get started).

Not everybody is cash-laden, and I know consumer pressure to get the system, but the launch is where manufacturers try to recoup on their investment, though most systems are sold at cost, or as loss-leaders. It's the games that make back the dough.

Because of new tech., the game pricing will creep up. I've been hearing 55+ and as high as 70 for some newer games utilizing newer technology, HDTV, 1080p, etc, etc.

And yes, to get an XBOX360 up and running will run, 500. The expanded system is 399, and then has the wireless remote, wireless headset, the HDtv hookup, the remote control that makes it a DVD player, and the extra memory. All sold separately you'd be well over the 100 price difference. Add in the game and tax and you're at 480ish.

I went to talk to diff. stores, so believe reserving is a good idea (though you have to be in line normally to get 1, other wise you get 1 next shipment. SNEAKY!). Or there's simply going to best buy the minute they open and waiting in line. From what I know it comes out nov 28 or mid week of november sometime.

I was on the bandwagon to get it since my used XBOX has been shytting the proverbial bed and the other DVD player has been skipping, too, I figured the upgrade would replace both and give me a nice christmas present. But since the games being released aren't all that exciting (Perfect Dark is a top game, as is Call of Duty), and those are only ASSUMED to be available, there's no final list of what's out or not.

Not to mention, they're making a Halo 3 movie, so it's likely they release the game AND movie at the same time, meaning halo 3 isn't out until 2007. I haven't seen screen shots or even a storyline, so it's not likely to be out for at least a year.

And for those smart and savy consumers...most XBOX games will drop like rocks and ps2 will also drop in price. Sure you won't be ahead of the curve, but eventually you will. If you're not totally strapped, why not expand your whole gaming system by waiting, saving, seeing what new games come out and getting a ps2 or more Xbox games???

Sonic, you're taking a rather childish approach to the situation.

"If I can't see the difference, then it's obviously not different"

If you don't care enough about gameplay and all you care about is how it looks, then fine, don't get it. But some of us, the gameplay advances are more important then 100% realistic graphics.

The next gen is the next gen because it's advances in gameplay technology, and not in how pretty the graphics are like in older systems.

I have the 360 reserved but atm it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to afford it at the release. I can't say I want it that much, but I felt it was better to be safe then sorry. Don't be the least bit suprised when the 360 is this years top christmas present.

Vincent, if you noticed STRAIGHT from the begginning, these impressions are merely based on graphics alone to see if it was worthy of next-generation. No where did I say that I was just a graphics ***** and that is all. These are impressions based on a kiosk play, which we all know is not the end all-be all of things.

Yet, to say that graphics doesnt have much importance is even more childish when it comes to Next Generation. When we talk about making leaps, guess where it is coming from...GRAPHICS. The faster the processor, the more polys you can push, memory, more effects......by default, the more creative you can be which should enhance gameplay.

No doubt the 360 will come out some A List games, but again, it comes to value and if you want to spend that kind of money, be my guest. Ill have fun playing the Xbox (along with the SuperNES) and it will be nice to feel a nice wad of extra cash on my right pocket.

Oh yeah, wasn't talking Elmo at one time the hottest X-mas gift of the year? It was a shame I misse out on a talking Elmo...rolleyes:

And you are a good example of what I am talking about. A person that gets caught in the hype and forks out all of their dough for this (well in your case, this item was beyond with what you can afford) My younger brother has a few friends that are breaking their piggy banks and using ALL of their money to get this.

You are right, I dont have any idea. Ill just use the example of
"Xbox360 being one of the top toys this Xmas" (coming from you) to justify the 360s purchase.

Where is my Talking Elmo?
Where is my Britney Spears CD?

High/Top Sales=Damn it must be quality ;)

LOL!

I read a post in another forum where a guy picked up a chick playing with his NintendoDS, he was playing that one popular dog game. Plus it was really easy to get into her personal space and by default do kino.....while she was saying "awww..how cute".

Gotta get me one of those :D
