She's not really advocating polygamy, per se, only that women can marry whomever they choose, including, presumably, baboons, zebras, trees, imaginary people...MatureDJ said:
It's a very good reason. The nuclear family is the bedrock of our society and one of the main reasons for the decline of the US is the fact that women simply don't work as hard as men and most men don't feel the need to work hard if they don't have a family to take care of.zekko said:I've never understood why polygamy is illegal in the first place. It's supposed to be a free country after all (ROTFLMAO). Who is it hurting? The only explanation that makes any sense is that they want to control men by keeping the betas pacified by guaranteeing them a woman apiece. I don't think that's a good reason though.
Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.

I agree with you about the decline of the nuclear family. But I think a polygamous family is still a family. There's a father and a mother at least. It certainly sounds like more of a family than being raised by a single mother.goodfoot said:It's a very good reason. Don't ever disagree with zekko, but this time I do. Here is the very reason why polygamy should remain illegal. "Bleeding of the beast" as the FLDS would say (the beast being the federal and state governments).zekko said:I've never understood why polygamy is illegal in the first place. I completely agree with this post. I just envision a possible future where just like the top 1% control a lot of the money, they will "own" the majority of the women, at least the hot ones.zekko said:I agree with you about the decline of the nuclear family. Interesting. I didn't read quite all of that, but it sounded like a lot of the polygamist wives were on welfare. I found that a little surprising, since I would have figured that it would be the wealthy men who had multiple wives. Why would you marry that many wives if you couldn't support them?5string said:Don't ever disagree with zekko, but this time I do. Here is the very reason why polygamy should remain illegal. Fawn Brodie was actually excommunicated from the Mormon church for her writings. So much for free speech! No Man Knows My History, is the story of Joseph Smith and the forming of the Mormon church/faith. One of the finest non fiction books I have ever read.Scaramouche said:Dear 5String,
Liked your comments on Fawn Brodie,I really appreciated her book on Josiah Smith....She also wrote a magic book "The Devil Drives",on Sir Richard Burton, one of my heroes...He was someone who would have enjoyed this forum, one of his sidelines was researching sexuality....An amazing bloke, spoke 32 Languages, discovered the source of the Nile, translated Arabic novels like"Le Jardin Parfumier".....Sexy stuff in the nineteenth Century...Like many of us his wife was his Achilles Heel...In a fit of prudish pique,on his Death, she burned his unfinished works...A tragedy!
You'll figure it out when your harem leaves you to be Bill Gates 995th-1000th wives.zekko said:I thought most of the guys here wanted harems. Isn't this essentially what polygamy is?
Now, I'm not pushing for polygamy, it's not something I'd be interested in. In the current climate, I wouldn't marry one woman, let alone many. But I have yet to understand what is so wrong about it, or why it should be illegal.
So you're saying that illegalizing polygamy is just to protect the betas?goodfoot said:You'll figure it out when your harem leaves you to be Bill Gates 995th-1000th wives.
Many of the Biblical patriarchs practiced polygamy.scrouds said:I would love to study up on polygamy. off the cuff, I would think that it echos the traditional reason for marriage, trade security for babies. It does seem to allow a man with more options (wealth or game or whatever) to get more then monogamy, which would be a benefit.
I agree with this statement. My only problem with polygamy is that as a taxpayer, I don't want to pay for someones 16 wives and little urchins with foodstamps and welfare.samspade said:I think you should be allowed to marry whomever you want. Actually ideally marriage shouldn't involve the government at all!

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.
You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.
