American culture is one of gluttony, instant gratification/pleasure principle, and excuse-making.
So many Americans claim they don't have enough money to pay for a gym membership; yet every month, many of those same people spend FAR more than a month's gym membership on junk food and video-on-demand porn.
Oh? No one's ever said that to me. I figured that it's because they prefer a Big Mac(tm) to a bench press.
Also, despite what many people think, I see nothing wrong with that. I don't care if 90% of the population gets fat, except that if current trends continue, I may need to start buying special made clothes if the number of people my size continue to dwindle. I'm almost already at that point. Buying 29" waist trousers for men is already difficult. I wouldn't be surprised if I will need to start getting special made clothes, and spend way more than everyone else.
I suppose that most people weighing too much could be considered a problem, but on the bright side it's better than the opposite problem (wide-spread starvation). And doggone it, as much as I may not like it, it's their right to eat too much.

They say they don't have enough time to work out and that such a shortage of time forces them to hit the drive-through regularly rather than taking the time to prepare healthier food at home...yet they still manage to find several hours each night for surfing the web and watching reality tv.
Many of these people are the same ones who don't NEED a gas-guzzling SUV, but buy one anyway; and then complain about rising gas prices.
Sometimes I wish that I could travel back in time to 1955 and sabotage Ray Kroc's business. Then there wouldn't be a McDonald's.
OFF-TOPIC: About gas prices...that's something I don't get. Gas isn't all that expensive. I've heard that in the Netherlands it costs over $7/gal., after converting to USD/gallons. $2.50-4.00 (like in HI) isn't that bad.
BACK ON TOPIC: I wonder how many people actually use the drive through? I hate the concept and don't use it.
Also, isn't it costly to be fat? I'm 5'8", 120lbs, BMI 18.2. Nevertheless I still consume over $100-$150 of food every month. If I go out to eat it costs like $20 + tip. I'm not sure if I want to think how much a 300lb fat man must spend.
