The problem with South Africa is that the black people didn't have any alternative structure or better plan in mind when they wanted power back. All they wanted was "down with whites". Now, the black people are trying to make the same system stay running without the folks who understand the system.
I take that back, they know exactly how the system works, and they work it to the fullest: never mind giving anything back to the tax paying population, just stuff as much money in your pockets (and your friends' and family's pockets) before it all comes crashing down (or you're voted out).
Really, it's the same as what's going on here in the states, except there, they make little effort to conceal or deny the corruption. It's just a smash-and-grab until it collapses. The only difference being that South African blacks stay local and loot their own zone (disorganized). The US, on the other hand, takes the looting show on the road and helps themselves to resources of several countries... while simultaneously looting our own tax base.
Like most of the cultural/social/political discussions in AE, this one boils down to the simple-and-plain issue of overpopulation. Overpopulation, or "people pollution:", turns countries into deserts and folks need to move on to "greener pastures". Mexico? Too many people have trashed the joint. The US had a hand it that by sending our jobs there first, which stimulated their economy and caused a boom in the population (and consumption). After that resource played out, we sent our sh¡t to China, then India, and look what's happening to the economies and population levels of those places. When corporations find an even cheaper labor force, places like China and India will face Mexico's fate, and they'll likely want to fight about it (read: have a war to get rid of the surplus of labor/mouths to feed).
We go in, introduce the capitalist consumption model to "underdeveloped" agricultural countries, the population booms and demands better pay to get better televisions, and we move on. That new overpopulation needs to migrate to continue their new consumption lifestyle... or revert back to agriculture. But farmers aren't sports heroes or MTV stars, so it's time to move to where all the TV stars live!
We have nothing but our years and years of exploitive foreign policies to blame for this. We made our problem. So, Europe? Yeah, they're sleeping in the bed they made for themselves, too. You go putting schools into places and soon you'll have those educated people wanting your job. Don't want competition? Stop teaching people to compete. The whole world listens to the BBC over the radio. Somehow a huge influx of overpopulation is mystifying?
Clearly "we" want this situation: the actions speak louder than the politicians' words. Otherwise, we'd have different policies.
