It is true that, for the most part, Oxide, people do things to feel and experience good feelings and emotions, but, as you may know from great historic examples, the greatest and most noble deeds are done by people, both ordinary and great, who dedicate their life, or give their life, to a Cause greater than themselves.
Read this story, for example: the Battle of Thermopylae
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Thermopylae
300 Spartans, the bravest among mankind, defended themselves against an army of +200.000 man strong. Why? Because they believed life was worth fighting for, even worth dying for, and without these 300 most brave man, we, the Western people, would probably not exist right now.
I am not saying, Oxide, that if you devote your life to other people, or if you even give your life to some higher cause, that your life will suddenly become much more meaningful, but it does mean that life is not only about personal satisfaction and gratification.
Your perspective, Oxide, is a very personal one; this is no criticism or praise, but just how things are. You consider, at the moment, life rather meaningless; but other people, with other lives and other beliefs, have considered life immensely meaningful, so much so, that they even gave their lives to protect it for their children.
Nothing stays the same, Oxide, not even your beliefs about life; and I think, sometime in the future, you perspective on life will have changed into one that does give your life sense, meaning, and purpose. Remember when you did not drink for two days, and were so thirsty you felt like drinking an entire lake? and then, once you finally drank something, if felt better than ever before? When it comes to human life, I think it is the same: after a period of meaninglessness, a period full of meaning will come, and it will then be more intense than ever before.
I do not know anything else to say; probably cannot say anything else. Life is a long journey, sometimes a mysterious quest, and the answers do not always show themselves so easily. Be patient, be clever, be strong and be brave, look Truth straight into its sometimes dark eyes, and usually, at some point, things will become better.
