in all seriousness, can anyone recommend a good 'sounds of nature' CD? probably a meditation-style thing but no chanting or bells, just like running water, rainfall, animals/birds..
I've never said this before, but

I don't take mine, it's too big for when I'm lifting...I just blank out the music in the gym instead

SanDisk Sansa e140 is pretty good, just the right size, and cheap, no worries if you brake it. 1 GB and you can add more with SD card. What you do is put it with a strap on your arm, right beneath the elbow. Route wire through shirt so it comes up from the back to your ears, add some white tape to hold wire in place on your neck. Done. Looks cool and compfortable.

I never understood how anyone could workout with earphones or an ipod strapped to your arm ?? not only does it look stupid but its distracting.

I use mine for cardio.

Using it while lifting is a big hinderance, and it might get broken.

Songs:

Survivor - Eye of the Tiger

Eminem - Lose Yourself

Eminem - Till I Collapse

Eminem - Sing for the Moment

Immortal Technique - Inspiration

Nirvana - Smells like Teen Spirit

I don't even listen to the music they play at the gym. I just tune it out, unless it's a song I like. Snoop dogg "I wanna love you" isn't that bad to lift to actually.

Seriously, if you guys require music to contract your muscles to their fullest extent, you're not trying hard enough.

and the greatest modern song is 'tool: hooker with a penis'. if you understand the lyrics youll know why. any other song by tool or another 'rebel' band is effectively tainted.

Ya I hate when people talk to you when you don't have headphones on! omg and happy chick radio playing at the gym sucks too! I feel like killing babies when I hear YMCA while I'm deadlifting. You should get a Ipod holder and place it somewhere that it won't bug you. But ya Rap and metal/hardcore rock gets me pumped for lifting or sporting events.

Rock

- "Only for the weak" by In Flames
- Disturbed almost all their songs but especially "Voices, Stupify, Stricken, Down with the sickness (duh)"
- Drowning Pool "Bodies"
- Killswitch Engage
- AC/DC
- POD "Boom" or "Revolution"
- Paparouch "Last Resort"
- Mudvayne
- Rage Against the Machine
- System of the down
- Breaking Benjamin "So Cold" or "Blow me away / Halo 2 theme song
- Godsmack "I stand alone"

Rap (more for cardio) / Techno (great for cardio cuz of the beat)

- DMX
- Dr. Dre
- Eminem
- Nas
- Fort Minor
- LL cool J
- T.I.
- "Let's Go" either Trick Daddy or Ying Yang Twins

Yeah, fortunately my gym ain't a commercial gym (more of a backstreet gym, literally :)), so they play rock, hip-hop and gangsta rap, stuff which gets a lot of people going  The lad who owns the gym plays all the stuff off his iPod onto the big surrounding speakers.

Hey, it's not like I wanted Backstreet Boys..

I'm experimenting with some CNS-calming techniques after workouts (particularly legs) to enhance recovery, as I feel being wired after a workout is detrimental to your recovery. Right now it's calming music, a long soak in the bath instead of a shower, and some herbal extracts.. even if they help 5% it'll be worth it. And I do FEEL better for it.

Dude I feel ya! I was in the gym pushing the crap out of my legs on the leg press. Imagine going all out on one set,as many times as you can, sweat building up on your back, your steaming red,you can feel the heat radiating off of you,now you get off the leg press huffing and puffing, you take off your headphones to hear JAMES BROWN!

The songs in my playlist that give me superhuman strength when I work out:

Slayer - Reign in Blood.

Theme song from Conan the Barbarian.

The live versions of End of Heartache and Fixation on the Darkness - Killswitch Engage

Stuntin' with my Daddy by Lil' Wayne and In da Club by 50 Cent are pretty pumpin' too.
