I admit that the vast majority of Seattleites dress poorly, but you hugely overestimate the virtues of Ukraine compared to the rest of the world.

You live in one of the poorest, most corrupt countries in the entire world, and you're mocking the US :)

Hey man, I know Ukrainian girls are hot. They have the bodies AMERICAN (and Italian and French and British) designers design for. K sozhaleniyu, ya ne mogu dumat' ni o kakix ukrainskix model'erax - mozhesh' ty'? (ya nichego ne govoryu po-ukrainski, izvini :( )

American fashion sense sucks, for the most part, and of course I agree that Banana isn't fitted. But I am curious to hear what quality garments people are wearing in Ukraine, because from my experience in Western Europe high-street fashion sense sucks everywhere, and telling Americans to avoid all American-made clothing is bad advice.

Banana Republic is too expensive for what you get, from what I hear. The cuts are good but the quality isn't... stuff will fall apart on you.
Where do people hear this BS? I've worn Banana Republic and Gap for a long time and the stuff never "falls apart". Maybe you people are perspiring acid or something, but the quality is fine.

Also, if you can't find good looking and comfortable jeans for under $100, you're not looking hard enough.

To be honest? My friend manages a Banana Republic. He told me not to buy anything there. Does that count enough for you?

The stuff is too expensive for what you get, plain and simple.

Some people have good luck with BR clothing. I bought a jacket there seven years ago that I wore almost every day for a year, then on and off for three more, that held up perfectly. But I dealt with more returns of shirts that ripped, seams that popped, pilling on sweaters after just one wash, and - this was the most amazing one - the pick stitching that fell out of a guy's new suit after one wearing. You can do better for less.

Does anyone know specific stores/online sites that sell great dress shirts?

I like dress shirts from etro, john varvatos, guess, etc....but anyone know other cool designer dress shirts? Im not talking about bland solid one color dress shirts.
Dolce & Gabbana make really nice dress shirts and they fit awesome. Also check out Sisley.

Ben Sherman (make sure it's made in the UK - the US line is ****ty) make really nice fits in dress shirts. The best way to get fitted dress shirts is through a Hong Kong tailor, though: $30 for a shirt made for you is hard to beat. Look up Jantzen Tailor, shouldn't be too hard to find.

I used to work at Banana, and I sold to maybe 3% homosexuals. The rest were straight dudes, usually boring dressers, and most of the time they were with their girlfriends/wives. Women like to dress men in BR.

Which brings me to my other point. Women really know nothing about dressing men. The girls who worked at my BR were, by all accounts, stylish girls (a couple did fashion design at college), and couldn't manage to fit a suit to a man, put a shirt and tie together, or whatever. When you go shopping, ask the best-dressed male employee to help you.

Also, if you're worried about looking gay, you're not gonna get very far in fashion, because it's about attitude. I wear the gayest sh¡t around and I used to get called out on it at bars, but now I don't even get that because my reality is so consistent with my style.
THe fact that you worked there proves you have no credibility in what you say. you dont know what you are talking about. This post is as if you never typed it.

banana republic is not "fitted" clothing. it is simply low-end mass produced american crap. it is a&f for the straight set. if you live in america you probably have enough cash to shop at saks or neiman-marcus. do it. clothes and girls have a lot in common. (1) quality over quantity. less equals more. (2) don't go american.

american college culture is a pig farm. the american college broad thinks flip-flops are stylish. enough said. plus, she is way too fat to fit into anything that my type of girl would look good in. in american measurements i only deal with girls in the 34-24-34 range...they need to be 5'8" or 5'9" as well. common in ukraine and impossible to find on u.s. shores/western shores. i really doubt if many of you have even seen such a girl.
sparky, you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. YOu dont know anything about fashion.

so please, stfu

The **** is also gay looking too, and ugly, and it does have a cheap look to it.

3% of the men shopping there may be gay, but that doesnt stop the clothes from LOOKING GAY.

what is up with so many people in this thread embracing BR and "hardcore dress up 'look Im a rich guy'" look? Armani suits look nice, women think they look nice. But definitely not a woman's first pick for what "looks sexy" on a guy. hate to say it.

So is this thread a "how to look nice" thread, or is this a "how to look good for the ladies" thread? which is it? it dont look like this thread is the second one.

If you want to talk, talk to your friends. If you want a girl to like you, listen to her, ask questions, and act like you are on the edge of your seat.

Very true, Ben Sherman makes really awesome dress shirts. Really cool styles, nice fits and good quality. You can find them at stores like Urban Outfitters and Buckle, and you can occassionally find nice ones for cheap at places like Marshalls or TJ Maxx.

You don't know what the hell you're talking about. BR looks "gay"? There are far "gayer" styles out there than Banana Republic.

(1) i am not from ukraine. i simply spend all of the little money that i have on a western style apartment in the area and travel expenses to get back and forth from the dull west to the vibrancy of ukraine. don't talk unless you have been. i have been to seattle. pretty town (not as nice as vancouver though), but no style and freaking ugly girls.
(2) if you are dressing to try and get girls you really do need to take a closer look at your life. style is a way to make yourself feel better. it isn't about getting girls. an american passport dangling from your neck will get you the girl of your dreams in odessa, but does that mean you shouldn't care about style? dating girls in a place where they want me has taught me to be who i am. i don't have a lot of clothes, but what i do have is quality. it fits me (or else i get it fitted), it feels good on me, and it makes me feel good about myself. customer service is also key. nice to go into a store and have the people treat you with respect. no big a$$ fake smiles. nice to have people call you when something comes in that they think you might like. all of these things combined will give you confidence. confidence is something that most of you have none of.
(3) one last time...don't tell me that you have hotties in america these days. it isn't 1977. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/content/accent/epaper/2007/02/18/a1d_skinny_0218.html
"Let's be honest. At 16, how many people are aware of what to eat and how to take care of themselves?" he said, noting that a lot of models come from poorer countries, like the Ukraine. "We have very few American models on the runway. In our entire casting of almost 35 women, we had two."
that's right. out of 35 models in this show there were only two americans. this is in nyc! it would be much cheaper and more cost efficient to bring teenagers in from within the usa to do these shows. back in the 70's most of the girls were americans. now teens are more interested in food, f*** buddies, and flip-flops. there are agencies all over ukraine these days. it is no big deal to know girls who get sent to milan, paris, nyc, or tokyo. want to date them? easier than dating the average working stiff in america. i kid you not.

another article from the recent ny fashion week??
http://www.amny.com/entertainment/custom/fashion/am-models0205,0,7604802.story
"Such was the case for designer Carmen Marc Valvo last week. Girl after girl shuffled into Valvo's midtown studio - all towering, all thin, all striking, many Eastern European.
"Where are you from?" asked Il Park, Valvo's creative director, as he greeted a blond model. Park screens the models and presents the top picks to Valvo.
"Virginia." "Really? That's a novelty. You're supposed to say Ukraine or something."

My, have this thread grown!

Whoever said women cannot dress men. He may have a point. Woman often do not know what looks good on a man. (The specifics at least. But they will know when they see a stylish man) Please, do not be afraid to ask male SAs in stores as well. They work there for a reason!

Again, please stop with the whole "Afraid of looking gay" thing.

I knew this was coming. Please, be mature. Not all gay guys are stylish =)

BR is NOT gay looking. They make simple, stylish clothes. Sure, they fit a little slim. But that does not mean their gay! If its the slim fit is what you are afraid of, there are so many other brands out there that are "gayer"!

I happen to think, BR makes pretty decent clothes. They are quite slim, but def not the slimmest out there. The price, is also quite reasonable. Not cheap. But not outrageous either.

This thread is not just about "Dressing well to get chicks". This thread is about self improvement. As your taste in clothing change for the better, you will def get classier ladies. Its a byproduct. Dont worry!

Women do not like Armani on their man? You must be mad.
What do you wear when you are with your girls? A tank top?

If you are that closed-minded. Dont bother posting here.

too bad most of the playboy playmates are mostly american chicks. Um, yeah, america has some of the hottest women in the world. As for models, modeling agencies actually like the ethnic, non american look. ITs exotic. THey dont have mostly nonamerican chicks becuase nonamerican chicks are better looking, they have non american chicks mostly becuase an exotic looking chick is more likely to be non american.

Models arent a good reference for good looking women. THe best reference is to look at places where being good looking is actually important, ie playboy magazine and others. Modeling is more than just looking good, its also about looking good in the clothes that you wear. It also has to do with how well you do in front of a camera. You can be average looking, but do well in front of the camera, making amazing shots, and be a model. So please dont use models as a reference as to how good looking women in america are or what a good looking woman is supposed to look like. Try sources where being good looking is the #1 thing, ie playboy playmates.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.
