I was just wondering what the black/latino/asian and immigrant members of the board feel on race & ethnicity when it comes to dating.

This is my experience.

I am of Cuban/Dominican and Bajan background born here in the United States.

So that would equate both hispanic and black.

I consider myself to be more Dominican-american than anything else but I am totally black in race and culture(if you know dominicans and black cubans then you know we're pretty much spanish speaking blacks).

In this country there's no such thing as "mullato" or "indio".You're either this that or the other.

So often times alot of black women might see me as hispanic or carribean but everyone else even non-dominican/cuban hispanic girls see me as african american/carribean or some weird mutt.

This doesn't really make me bitter infact it makes me question alot of things about america and how the goverment has pitted people against eachother.I have no qualms dating an african american girl but i am of a different culture.

However,I can't ever completley assimilate into that community becuz that community is not quick to embrace outsiders becuz of past history. So me dating a aa girl actually does rubs ALOT of people in that community the wrong way.Regardless of wheter or not they date latinas and regardless of me being blacker than they are half the time...they don't like it.

All black people get along and intermix---that's only on TV.

Other hispanics? Please, they have probably worse views on blacks then southern rednecks do.Minus the violence & legal segregation I suppose. But it's very hard being around and them for long.

All Hispanic nationalities get along and intermix---in MIA maybe, but the rest of the country it's by race & income

So I have pretty much somewhat isolated myself into my own communities and somewhat Puerto Rican(although they can be *******s too) communities,as well as other black latinos.

We're treated negativley but other hispanics cuz we're black and our culture is carribean but we don't fit in among other blacks neither. Now don't get me wrong I have dated philipinas, indians and even white women but it's not really comfortable here in america to do so.

Situations i've described above really have made me delve harder into my culture and dissconnect with the so-called "New Latino" movement.IMO--that doesn't really pertain to me since Dominicans,Cubans are seen as something else and we are.

So yeah,i've pretty much stuck to my own "race"/nationalities for most things and especially dating and socializing & don't think i'm wrong for that.

I'm not racist towards anybody else ive just come to realize that in america you pretty much have too.

So I've decided to stick to my own people no matter what.

Well it's not segregation per se.But I've just had it,man.I'm sick of it the hyprocrsy americans have.****,I think sometimes i'm discriminated less by white people than african americans and hispanics themselves.

It's really a question of me not really fitting in and living in a society where races have to fit in a box to be welcomed within there own.

And i'm not racist i've just given up on trying to be accepted by two groups that won't ever see me as one of them.

I have my own people so i'll stick to them.

I can relate to how you feel very easily. With a father who is hispanic, and a mother who is white, I managed to fall directly in spot in between the two that can never really belong to either. I have dark hair but light skin. White friends will tell me I'm too hispanic to be white, but hispanic friends call me 'white boy.' So, to white people I'm hispanic, and to hispanic people I'm white. I have at times struggled to find a 'racial identity'.

Then I realized that my need 'belong' to a race stemmed from feeling that I needed that to be accepted by any group of people. Since then I've had many experiences being the only 'white person' in an all-black crowd (I know, I already said I'm not white, because I'm not... but only white people ever seem to notice), as well as the only 'hispanic' in a group of whites (once again... yes it's a contradiction, hence the confusion). This never in my life bothered me until I had a group of people attacking me for my race. And you know what happened in every case?

My total refusal to accept their racist attitude plowed right through it, and I ended up making very unlikely friends and opening some eyes. Because I have never accepted that there even are racial differences, and I truly believe the aren't. Do hispanic people speak spanish? Well, sure a lot of people who speak spanish are hispanic, but some are blonde haired white people, others are black, asian, etc. If you drop a baby of any race in the middle of any spanish speaking family will he not speak spanish as well? Does that make him hispanic? Of course not!

Your are describing the effects of culture on people perception of race as opposed to attributes of race itself, and it is exactly your acceptance of these "racial differences" that allows them to exist.

This all circles back to having a strong reality. I am who I am, and my race has nothing to do with it. Hell I don't even know what race I am - because it's all bullsh*t anyway. When I want to make friends with a group of people of ANY race, I present only myself. If they say "But you're white" they garner no response from me - or I'll even challenge them. I'm a very hard person to be racist against. And that's why I've been able to penetrate racially-exclusive crowds in spite of seemingly have nothing in common.

You'd be amazed at the power changing your OWN beliefs can have over the way other people think. Stop making excuses for your isolationism and start proactively learning to relate to people who may initally have trouble accepting difference in other people. You could have a large impact on a lot of people this way.

Although there may be a point to not integrating the races (what it is I have no idea), I feel that limiting oneself to the same race is only a few steps better than limiting yourself to the same sex if you are heterosexual.

Don't always be the one putting yourself out for her. Don't always be the one putting all the effort and work into the relationship. Let her, and expect her, to treat you as well as you treat her, and to improve the quality of your life.

I kind of know what you are saying. Where im from, theres basically white, hispanic, black, and other. The groups are defined by how you look and talk. Im 1/2 aruban, 1/2 colombian, so racially im 1/2 black 1/2 mestizo. I speak Dutch, Papiamentu, and Spanish. So in school, i was in that 'other' category. I could be a latino, but i dont feel that strong about the spanish language. Other people in "other" category include brasilians, guyanese, light west indians, ethiopians. In my school, we got a little bit of every group. I really talk to people from the suburban white side and the minority hood side. Its really all about background, not race. Its also about how sure of yourself you are. As you probably already know, in blk/hispanic if you have insecurities ur trying to fix, as holes, theyll get f***ed over and over and over again. Id have to question the racist attitude of people, whether it really exists, or if its in your head. Yes youre gonna be kind of outsider to every race.

Contrary to popular belief, hispanic is not a race, its a culture. Hispanic people can be asian (peruvian president) Native, mestizo, mulatto, black. Argentines, are they not hispanic, theyre italian and german descent. Hispanic was a term back in early 1900s for the White Man/System/Establishment/Machine to classify the mestizo look of mexicans, b/c they really didnt want to accept them as White. Its not a race, its a culture. Brother AP, your race is White, even if both your parents were mexican, the race would still most likely be White (unless really strong native features, really dark skin)

im half mexican and half german and i dont really give a fvck about race. If the chick is hot then shes hot. Altho i DO prefer asian girls because im a pervert like that.

None of my friends or anyone i know has ever classified me as either. I guess culturally speaking, i am "white". I dont speak spanish (altho i speak german fluently) and i was raised in a predominantly white city.

As far as how i look? my skin tone can be really dark and tan in the summer and go white in the winter..and well ive been told MANY things by many people. For instance, when i go to a chipotle, the mexican workers always try and speak spanish to me so they must see it in me... Ive also had people tell me i dont look anything at all and i look white (i disagree). Ive been asked if i was jewish before too...not sure where that came from. Ive passed for italian, middle eastern, lol some people even thought i had asian in me (i think my eyes have a slight slant to them altho i cant be sure because i was probably stoned out of my skull at the time).

I can tell you this tho, ive NEVER been with a black or latin chick ever. Namely due to their rarity. Ive always dated your typical white blonde girls because in my area thats all thats around and no one has ever said **** about it.

Now i live in a bigger city where race seems to be less of an issue due to the diverse nature of living in a place like this

Ive always gotton along with whites blacks mexicans so its all good. I like who i am if u got a problem ill slap you like your father did.

Ok, Realnezz, whos your own people? Do you speak spanish? Do you know about Dr culture? Do you know who Juan Pablo Duarte is? If yes, thats good, but If no to all these things, then, whether you wanna accept it or not, hispanics are not really your own people. Youll feel them make allowances for you and your lack of knoweledge. But still, dont stick to your own, people, b/c its hard to define who youre people are. I admit that some people from each group dont only are attracted to guys in their own group. It will be harder for you do find common ground with all the groups. But i have seen people in your situation get different girls.

It's a bit complicated than that, but I wont get into it. Suffice it to say that my dad is NOT white, nor is he Mexican (any more than a Cuban is 'Mexican'). Where my family has been since they came from spain in 1600 is today in northern New Mexico.

There is nothing wrong with racial mixture as long as it doesn't involve white people. In 1950 25% of the world population was white, now it's only 10%.

These are just facts. So save the white race: as a white man only impregnate white women and if you see some non-white guy with a white woman kill 'em!

Uhm... what do you mean these aren't the Stormfront forums (fora in good Latin)? ;)

^Bueno yo vivi all por 5 anos y un total de cuarto mas patra y palanta entre nueva york y la capital.

Yo creo que yo si se de mi gente..

Just a lil'...lmao.

I say Dominican-Americans cuz that's what i am.I have no intention or ever returning permantley to DR.Unless things get drastically better or things get really bad in the states.

Also,I do put english first & worry more about politics, daily life, and american society in general more than DR's.Duh,cuz I live here and my entire family is here.

So I am American of Dominican (and Cuban)descent with dominican culture --IMO.

About dominicans being black:That's why I know and said Dominicans are NOT hispanic truly.Only by american census definitions, becuz we speak Spanish..but really Cubans and Dominicans are african/mixed people with Catholic/Hispanic traditions and customs.

Thus,we don't really fit in anywhere, you see? Some try to integrate with white, black america and even Hispanic America..only to come back bitter and desullisioned.

America is just not for blacks when it comes to cultural assimilation much less black immigrant groups from latin america.

So yeah wheter we like it or not most of us are gonna live somewhat self-segregated lives dealing mostly with other dominicans in cities where does a good amount of dominicans, cubans and puerto ricans. Most of us will socialize among dominicans, cubans and puerto ricans. And most of us will end up marrying and having kids with other dominicans, cubans and puerto ricans.

Even if you try...it's not gonna be any differnt for most of us cuz we are seen as black yet at the same time--different.

Jheights..technically you're a latino.

But you're more like us somewhere in the middle.

I know you know what i'm trynna get by.It's not segregation per se i'm saying that in the states it's just not something you do.

And It's not our fault,i really blame the goverment for labelling so many people and creating so many vast different sub-cultures.

The Melting pot is BS cuz why would a 5th generation hispanic kid still want to be more of where his great grandparents come from then a mainstream american?

He is forced to be that cuz of the goverment and media.

I can understand immigrants and there children staying close there roots naturally of course. But third fourth and even fifth not really ever intregrating with mainstream america only proves to me america really is a racist society and always will be divided up like that.

Many ancient Egyptian kings used to have sex and breed with their sister in order to preserve the superior racial, cultural, and blood traits.

So yep. Having sex with your sister is the best way to keep your kids' blood pure.

Ok, Realnezz were both from the same place. Ive lived in qnz, bx, and bk. I dont know what youre talking about that dominicans dont fit in as hispanics. Dominicans (strong african featured) identify much more with being hispanic than they do with black. Puerto Ricans too. A lot of them dont like their africanness. If you ask a puerto rican what his race is, hell probably tell you, pr, hispanic, latino. A lot of drs too. NYC is very racial and divided like that to a certain extent. Ofcourse people hang out with people other groups, but the stereotyping and labeling and ****. Im gonna tell you straight up, drs are not seen as black. An african american with a last name like jones is not seen the same as a dr. They say the dr is 'spanish'. So yes you do fit into hispanic america.

What are you talking about drs are not truly hispanic. The idea of hispanic and latino are erroneously used in the states. Hispanic is not a race, its not genetic, its a culture. There is no hispanic race. Majority of hispanics in US are racially white. (in most cases mestizos can be classified as white, people in US mixed with native & european are White also)

When i came to school and seen hispanics other areas like the suburbs, they talk and have characteristics of mainstream american white girl. From where theyre from, theyres no lines, you just have to learn how to talk to suburban mainstream white girls, and interest them.

Dominicans belong to the hispanic culture, so therefore they are hispanic. Latino doesnt just refer to spanish speaking, it refers to countries taken over by french, portugal, italy, Romania. Those other countries get neglected by the blob effect and forced to learn spanish.

Theres plenty of dr guys that have like ecuadorian girlfriends, and other hispanic groups. But not the other way around. to dr pr cubans girls, colombians equadorians, bolivians, guatemalans, salvadorians are mestizo, and therefore disgusting to them. Drs, prs, cub (theres not a big cuban population in NYC mostly in fla) live in close communities in NYC among eachother by choice. These native guys in NYC choose to speak spanish most of the time, and assimilate slowly. The most of guys born here, choose to f around in school all day, and smoke weed, and buy jordans, so therefore, they stay in the realm of the hood, and in the hood, you mostly find blacks and hispanics, this is why you dont see intermarrying that much.

But you dont need a group to identify with, like me, made an effort to know about both my mom's carribean culture and my father's south american culture. I could identify with either one. This is hard to do. But you dont need
a group. If youre used to the hood living, and you wanna go for girls outside of that, you have to know what to talk about, that theyll know. Ive seen alot of black guys with girls of any other group, so its obviously not racial, its cultural. Background and culture are the most important factors, not skin color, when you can overcome that background differences thing, you could cross any lines for youre own agenda.

It's not about girls it's about life in the states in general.I can pick up South American girls right now if I felt like cuz those women seem to dig Dominicans but not there own men sometimes for whatever stupid ass reasons.

Whatever.I'm talking about dealing with and truly socializing with others.

I don't know many Dominican guys that stick to South Americans girls for long?Do you?

Ecuadorian,Puerto Rican(not all but alot have it out to screw over dominican men we BOTH know this and we both know why) and Colombian girls especially turn nasty afterawhile and you start to hear some "Oh you stupid dominicans" comment from them more and more till it turns to blatant racism.

I already been down that route with latinas.Especially ecuadorian girls have some weird fascination with Dominicans,I think it's mainly to piss off there mothers & the whole "He might be a drug-dealer/athlete/Bad Ass Tiguere from the hood" stereotype.

9 out of ten it doesn't work out and actually i've seen it turn violent.Except usually if that girl is a black whatever nationality and her whole family is black.

I'm not putting myself in a situation like that anymore.

Dominicans are seen as spanish-speaking black people TRUST ME.Everyone knows and says this.Maybe becuz you are thought to be dominican/africo-carribean at first yourself people won't tell you this to your face.

Not the same as African americans or west indians but defintley are seen as seen as blacks and do not fit in with other hispanics.

Puerto ricans are usually white with some taino in them which actually makes them mestizo but they dislike other mestizo peoples just like DR's seem too.

With them it's fifty-fifty they either hate us or treat us like brothers. There's no in between.I'd have lot of problems with them but also have great times,I think alot of them might say the same about us,but really they are judging us by what the older 70's-80's era dominican jackasses did to them.

I know of the cuban community in the east cuz I am cuban also. Some of the darker ones melt into the aa communities while most are spread around all over the place wherever you see Dominicans and Puerto ricans you'll see Cubans around.

So really if you wanna continue to think there's no racism in the latino community or that we're all the same cuz we speak spanish keep thinking that.

I know better. But maybe that's becuz you don't have the same stereotypes and stigma to deal with that Dominicans have.

One.

Ok, i disagree that drs are seen as spanish speaking blacks. BY who? Most of them do not even think they are african, they think they are indio. Puerto ricans are not tainos, majority of them got killed off way back when, so now today all you have is a few taino/spanish mixed prs. Theyre face will have strong features of tainos. Most prs are mulattos, just like drs, but less african blood. Ofcourse they will not admit this, but if you look at prs noses, theyre wider, hair is curly. Tainos have spikey hair, spaniards have straight hair, where do you get the kinky/curly hair from? If you see a taino, theyre face will look completely different from majority of prs. Prs are not mestizo and not cholos, and they dont identify themselves, with other mestizos. The way prs/drs and cubans speak is very african and influenced by Patois.

Now some of them do consider themselves black, but majority will chant 'indios' so by who, r dominicans considered black and not really part of the hispanic america? Now granted at the Latin grammy awards, theres never any merengue, and i asked why, and they say b/c its really different type of music. And if you go to the suburbs it is very clear, b/c people talk american. so every hispanic group will have characteristics of White american, while Dr from the suburbs has characteristics of Black american.

Youre are right that there is hatred among Hispanics. A lot of times its based on race, but theyre not really thinking that consciously, its subconscsious, when a dr sees a Mexican, he thinks dirty, rat living. He sees any mestizo, he thinks automatically, ‘a group of mexicans’ correct me if im wrong. Mexicans stick to themselves, even when they have generation born here. Other mestizos like my father’s group have something against drs/prs, b/c according to them, they curse too much, talk loud, and sell drugs. But you are not gonna come across this tribalism everytime, especially if you expand your circle to more than just your block. But believe me, im well aware of tribalism, and I get called a ½ breeded mongrel a lot.
