Im angry at the media coverage of this tragedy.

Where did this massacre happen, on an indian reservation.

"The reservation is about 240 miles north of the Twin Cities. It is home to the Red Lake Chippewa Tribe, one of the poorest in the state. According to the 2000 census, 5,162 people lived on the reservation, and all but 91 were Indians. "

Surely the poor condition of the school, 2nd worst at english and 3rd worst at maths in the state and the dreadul social conditions of this child, which undoubtedly contributed to this massacre can be laid firmly at the feet of the American government.

The failure or lack of civil rights movements for Native Americans and lack of adequate compensation has driven many to self destruction. For example, the case of the man who helped to lift the iconic 2nd flag on Iwo Jima self destructed through his drinking habits.

Native Americans are passed by by mainstream America and its culture. The only reservations that are successful are those which managed to pander to mainstream commercial interests. Such as those in Nevada which act in gambling and those that pander to the tourist trade.

This is shocking and something needs to be done about the economic deprivation that leads to screwed up social backgrounds, which in turn leads to tragedies like this.

I'm 1/4 Abenaki and I disagree on blaming this on the US Government being "unfair" to Native Americans. The reason a lot of reservations are poverty stricken is because there is too much embracing of victimhood and not enough being a "survivor". You see the same thing among some in every group. You see it in the poor black communities, feminist groups, religious groups, etc. When people choose to view themselves as victims they essentially seal a miserable existence for themselves. Those who choose to view themselves in a better light do much better and fare quite well. You also have a generation of "victims" raising their children as "victims". This is the number one cause of social decay in the US and the rest of the world. Until people learn to love and respect themselves they aren't really all that capable of loving or respecting the people or world around them.

That's right, it happened in Minnesota and all we have here is Vanilla Ice, Alice Cooper and Pong. We're so behind the times...
