I dont see a contradiction on both concepts.

The message Jesus is saying there is not to sink to the same level of the other person. You are above level with a person who hit you if you turn the other cheek, but you are the same level if you retaliate. If you want to take the high road, then you would look at that and see the point - issues such as seeking redress for wrongs, etc... are trivial compared to higher and more important matters.

So I'd see it as one has the RIGHT to seek redress of a wrong in a manner that's just, but Jesus encourages people to waive that right, so long as the offending party knows you had that right and you choose to waive it. Obviously you cant show that you are stupid and the offending party has to know clearly well that you have the right to retaliate if you so choose to but are offering your other cheek instead because you are ABOVE the offending party, they are BELOW.

Personally, I'm trying to learn to adopt this teaching. I tend to fly off the handle or sue people, but when you look at the big picture, it's really not worth it and it's really spending good time and good money after bad.
