Women have been fighting for equal rights since the close of the victorian era. The fact is that the differences between men and women are what created this gap in the first place.

Fighting for womens rights and equality has got to be one of the most difficult issues to argue over because it's something that's genetically encoded in every specis of animal. There are different ways that the sexes act around one another. Even though we are at the top of the list when it comes to brain power and thought, we fall prey to this type of biological mapping as well. Actually thinking as we do has actually made things worse in terms of the gap between men and women.
The world should be getting more stable, but as long as there is the battle of religions, politics, greed and what have you .. we're going to have to make some big changes.
These are the exact reasons why the sex gap exist and fluxuates in size. As long as people are willing to die for religion, politics, and greed, there will be decrimination, genocide, and conflicts of interest through out the world.

I mean how long did it take for people of color to even have basic rights in this country? The issue with women being treated differently from men goes back too far to track. And the road ahead for women to be concidered equal may span more then just 2 or 3 hundred years. It may be possible for women to be concidered equal in a few select spots around the world but I imagine our species will probably die out before you see it happen world wide.

I was watching 60 minutes last sunday and they featured a story on a female muslim activist. She made a short film in holland with words of the Quran written on her body. When the camera got closer the woman was badly injured through beating. Apparently in the readings of the Quran it's not only accpeted to batter your wife if she speaks out of turn, but it's a written practice.

Holland is one of the most democratic nations in the world and the people there can say anything they want about whatever you want. But after this film was debuted the director (who was a very out spoken guy, angered TON of people with his films) was publicly murdered, in the street, in broad daylight. He was shot several times then had his throught slit. The activist had to have armed guards around her at just about all times and was held in an embassy for her own protection.

Not to say that her message wasn't warrented or what she was doing wasn't right, but Islam has one of the most divoted followings in the world. They will go to ANY lengths to defend their religion and the words of the Quran.

And that's just one of the fights that women face in order to get equality. I'm not saying you shouldn't fight, because as an idvidual I feel if you don't fight then you're standing in someone elses way. But as a fighter I know and unwinnable battle when I see it. Good luck to you still.
