Rioting in London

It's ridiculous. It initially started when a man in a taxi shot at police officers, so the police shot him dead. Subsequently, some people decided to hold a peaceful demonstration in Tottenham (apparently shooting at someone is alright). This ended up descending into rioting and looting and now it's spread to pretty much everywhere.

Who are involved? Youths. Teenagers who have too much time on their hands. Luckily where I live there's been nothing going on. These riots are going to cost the tax payer and businesses millions just because of the actions of some retarded bored school kids. And then you have some "down with the kids" faggots who are defending their actions, blaming this on kids having a lack of youth clubs.

This happened n Vancouver, Canada when their team lost the Stanley Cup Finals. The city rioted for about 8 hours and the masses were usually younger white kids with too much time on their hands so they started one for fun. Isn't the first time in their history to riot over a hockey game, look it up. A lot of people predicted it too.

As for London, it's the Illuminati. I swear.

Kidding. To be honest I see a lot of the more modern day riots to involve more youths than anything. Maybe it is because of the lack of jobs but I actually think there is a more common link to poor parenting. But I'm just speculating. In a month you guys will whether the storm and we will forget all about it. Just a shame it will cost your city millions. But at least you didn't lose millions over a hockey game. Crazy ass Canadians

People are frustrated and have energy to vent but this is not the way to do it. Also looters are taking opportunity.

Yeah guns are illegal, but that also means the police cannot arm themselves with guns because the rioters dont have guns.

They can use tazers but they dont, whole streets of shops are getting looted for about an hour before the police have the man power to respond. Now its spreading all over the country....great!

The biggest problem is that there are no deterrants against violent crime in Britain today and these riots prove that even in extreme circumstances, our spineless government will not stand up for themselves or their people.

Likewise, child abusers and murderers are given short sentences and then rewarded with grants, housing and other benefits.

The irony is that they are refusing to use the army to protect us, and yet they send them off to Iraq and Afghanistan to shoot and bomb people who are no threat to us.

It's spreading across the country, it's crazy.

...thinking about it with my dusty knowledge of British history, we have never had nationwide riots of this scale before! It's arguably the most old-school-revolutionary style violence we've had in modern British history...but without any revolutionaries! It's just fueled by thugs wanting to join the riot bandwaggon, it's ****ing disgusting.

Though I don't condone the violence and the romanticising of these riots I think most people are refusing to acknowledge the underlying issues that sparked the crisis in the first place. Anger, frustration, deep inequality, double standards and the widespread corruption inherent within the institutions that govern our lives.

Then again any kind of societal introspection and self evaluation should come after the violence and theft has been neutralised. Right now they're hurting the wrong people (you're pissed at the government so why burn down Mr. Chow's shop?) which is unfortunately taking away some of the admiral things that these riots should represent.
These rioters are not angry or frustrated. They're having a great time and getting lots of free stuff. Look at the footage and how arrogant they are.

It's the victims of this violence who are angry and those are the people who are going to revolt against this pitiless government if anyone does.

If they're pissed off about being repressed why arent they attacking the richer areas in London. They're just selfish people doing it for their own gains and too stupid to realise they're ruining their own neighbourhoods, the rich are laughing at them. Harrods is fine but the 99p store has be ransacked, thats pure opportunism.

Rioting is all about mob mentality. It does not matter whether they have guns or not.

The most notable thing, which always goes un-noted, is that it is always the people who have nothing to lose that do the rioting. Or to put it another way, the dregs of society who do as little as they can to get by, are the first to take to the streets when they do not like something.

They are the free-$hit army, and their numbers grow every year.
I agree. Because if you look at the **** they loot, they take stupid sh*t like DVD's and video games. Seriously? It's not worth the consquences of getting caught over a f*cking electronic video game system that will be obsolete by the time you get out of jail, not to mention worthless.

These people need help, not tear gas.

Similar to why Americans revolted against the British.

Had pretty much unlimited freedom and low taxes for a long peroid of time. Only to have it all changed suddenly and dramatically.

I had to go into a riot zone tonight to pick up some friends and get them out of there. They were over turning cars, smashing windows and looting while police stood back doing nothing.

What struck me at the time was how easy it would've been to smash a shop window, fill my pockets and just go home with lots of free stuff. Nobody would've stopped me and if I'd been able to cover my face, I doubt I'd ever be identified.

What is happening is inexcusable and if it was upto me I'd have the army in to shoot on sight, but you have to understand their incentives. Not only do they get lots of free prizes, which they can use or sell on, but they get an overwhelming sense of power and an intense adrenaline rush. They're literally holding the country hostage at the moment and that must feel pretty damn exhillarating.

The police really need to do something to knock them off their pedestal. Hit them with tear gas, hurt them and make them feel some consequences of their actions.

Somebody once said that most crimes are crimes against the status quo.

Well seeing the middle class teen breaking in the commercial center and get with violence what it's unavailable to him economically confirm so.
People evaluated according to the prize of their clothes or the electronic they have at home are pressure cooker ready to explode, and now they are exploding.

They bombard them with advertisments, commercials, they make them feel like sh1t if they cannot be part of "the lifestyle" and now they finally give back physically what they got psychologically.

Riots are never casual, they are actually the final result of a strain who goes on day after day.

I'm in now way defending the rioters who smash private cars or damage private properties but I can see the point of those who are striking the big corporations such as banks or commercial centers.
What appear to be a common stealing is in fact a reaction to pressure.

Tell me why there are no riots in Hungary or Poland or Latvia.

So you sit there in your middle class house with your educated friends and say 'if it was me id have the army go in and shoot them'.

Your government is too busy with covert politics in countries they are invading to deal with this, your words are empty.

Shame on you for being so ignorant and unempethetic. These are kids out there.

If it was me, I'd shoot them myself. Calling the Army is a waste. Every shopkeeper should be on their roof with a shotgun, but their government has denied them the right to protect their own property, so they cower in fear.

Actually, I'm right in the middle of this sh!t and I have friends and family who have been directly threatened by this so don't make out that my opinion is detached.

Ok, I exaggerate about shooting them dead, but dropping tear gas on them or hitting them with rubber bullets is definitely something I and most of us victims agree with.

I don't care if they're kids. They're hardly innocent beings who need protecting. They're feral and need to be taught some discipline otherwise this is going to continue and it's going to get worse, possibly leading to raping and murdering whoever they feel like.
