Holy cow! Apparently they've had enough of the dictatorship there.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/01/27/us-egypt-protest-idUSTRE70O3UW20110127

It's gotten so ugly that the government has shut down the internet for the entire country:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12306041

Just goes to show what a powerful tool of mobilization internet has become. You can bet your ass that when civil unrest comes to America (and it probably will), they wont hesitate to pull the plug either.

If that day ever comes, you all should know about this:

http://freenetproject.org/

It's damn near impossible for anyone to censor protocols which they do not regulate. Hackers FTW

This is exactly the same reason that the US wants to give the President an internet kill switch.

In Canada they've recently privatized the internet. :trouble:

Yep. They take away our freedoms and tell us it's for our own good.

It isn't a revolution in Egypt.

It's riots over food inflation.

This is what happens in socialized countries. The people are babies, utterly dependent on the government for everything. So when the going gets tough, they aren't tough enough to get going, so instead they throw rocks at police.

Not gonna happen in the US. You "end of the world" types really need to get out more.

You essentially upped your VALUE in her eyes by showing her that, if she wants you, she has to at times do things that you like to do. You are SOMETHING after all. You are NOT FREE. If she wants to hang with you, it's going to cost her something — time, effort, money.

Correction: it WAS a riot over food inflation.

When police take off their uniforms and join the people they are supposed to control, then tanks are brought in to handle the situation and all communications are shut down, it's a revolution.

Should it be so far fetched? We just saw Tunisia topple their gov't and send their leader into exile last week. Would you also consider that a riot?

You obviously haven't been paying attention to the situation and are coloring it with your own political views. Although the national constitution describes Egypt as a "democratic, socialist state," in reality it is not much of either. Sure there are elections, but the government is authoritarian and not that much different from a dictatorship.

This isn't about socialism AT ALL. Poor people are just tired of getting fuct over by tyrants running their country into the ground.

Not gonna happen in the US.
Yeah it's not like there has ever been civil unrest in this country, or it was founded by revolutionaries or anything.

How ridiculous of me to suggest that Americans might finally snap when they barely have enough food to eat and then realize that 95% of their wealth has been silently robbed in the massive Ponzi scheme that is fiat currency and fractional reserve banking.

You "end of the world" types really need to get out more.
Who says the world is ending? If anything revolutions herald new beginnings spawned by the will of the people. I think that's a good thing.

All these poor people who talk about how they've been "robbed", how they've been "cheated", are so full of sh!t. How could someone rob you when you never had anything to begin with? "Durr gimme yo moneyz durr"

All they know how to do is tear down and destroy. And they have their reward. And those who would rather build up and create, have their reward as well. We know them as Rockefellers, Fords, Carnegies, Edisons, and Gates'. History forgets its destroyers and attackers rather quickly, but those who give to the world are showered with wealth, fame, honor, and remembrance. As it should be.

I am not without sympathy for the poor. But when they gang up and try to tear down the society that supports them, or to use our elections as a means to steal wealth from those who earned it, well I have to choose a side in that instance. And I stick with the winners.

And I don't believe our system is perfect either. Fiat money is a dubious venture, we should go back to the gold standard. It was troublesome before because we got it wrong; but the lessons we have learned from our fiat fiascos, and over time, have put us in a position where we now know how to do the gold standard the right way. Can you imagine it, a stable currency without fear of inflation? It's gonna happen. The problem is that smarmy college professors have been teaching us for 50 years that gold is for hicks who hide their money in a mattress and have a fallout shelter under their house. Note: those feminist college professors probably get spanked by their mannish wives with 14 last names. Get real, any money that is not based on gold isn't money.

The disparation of wealth in this country is not based upon some grand conspiracy, or the collusive efforts of lobbyists. The biggest contributor to the "rich getting richer" is our Federal tax code. How much money you make doesn't matter; it's how you make it that counts. Ie: if you make your money as an employee, fifty cents of every dollar you make goes to the government, before you even see it. Then the rest is diluted through sales taxes and other bs. On the other hand, business owners and investors have tax shelters. That's it.

This isn't priveleged information, anybody can learn it: the middle class taxpayer is the pack mule of society. The people under him don't pay any taxes at all, all they do is whine and say "MORE!", and the people over him have tax shelters that allow them to grow their wealth. So in the absence of some horrible hardships that truly prevent people from obtaining wealth, most never become wealthy because they are not smart and driven enough to do so.

It's so much easier for them to whine and complain about how they've been held down, than to look in the mirror and discover the REAL cause of all their problems.

LOL @ Julius.

Firstly according to the CIA World Factbook, Egypt is considered a republic. Like the United States. It is NOT socialist.
CIA World Factbook: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/eg.html

Secondly it is a revolution. People have had enough of the current president and ruling party. Turns out that the country has been in a state of emergency for 30 years allowing the president (dictator) almost unlimited control.

Every single american has been robbed. Rich, middle and poor. Your dollar is worth 5% what it was decades ago - that is the price of a debt-based economy. The bankers are coming for the remaining 5% before the dollar eventually becomes worthless and we need a new currency.

All they know how to do is tear down and destroy. And they have their reward. And those who would rather build up and create, have their reward as well. We know them as Rockefellers, Fords, Carnegies, Edisons, and Gates'. I guess names like Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams don't belong in history. By your criteria they were just whiners who didn't want to pay taxes. Sometimes in order to create something great (like America) you have to tear down a system that clearly does not work.

I am not without sympathy for the poor. But when they gang up and try to tear down the society that supports them, or to use our elections as a means to steal wealth from those who earned it, well I have to choose a side in that instance. And I stick with the winners.
What happens when society does not support them at all? What happens when basic civil rights are violated year after year and the pressure keeps getting worse? Are they supposed to sit down and take it for the sake of the winners?

I root for which ever side stands for decency and common sense. Sadly in most cases this is usually the underdog.

we should go back to the gold standard. It was troublesome before because we got it wrong; but the lessons we have learned from our fiat fiascos, and over time, have put us in a position where we now know how to do the gold standard the right way. Agree 100% and I really hope you are right about us getting that standard back.

the middle class taxpayer is the pack mule of society. You are spot on here as well, which is why I think that if civil unrest does happen it won't be the poor as much as the middle class stirring most of the pot. There is only so much abuse people can take before they snap.

A revolution in the west? please

They polluted water and air, spread sh1t like estrogens in the environment, destroyed the family as god wanted it turning women into men and men into women, taxed every creature that breath as long as it's honest and many many other wonderful things and yet everybody is good and happy with his 30kg of fat around his belly or ass (depending on the sex) doing exactly what is supposed to do,work and spend money while burnig his brain in front of some soap opera.

The revolution? all it needs is some rain to send back the "revolutionaries" at home,or better yet a special edition superbowl/oprah.

Half the time you open your mouth, it's a guarantee you don't know SH!T about what you're talking about.

If you have nothing insightful to say...STFU dude. Clearly, you've never been to the middle east outside of maybe a stint in Iraq at most.

American values like democracy mean nothing in foreign lands. Get off the damn internet instead of spewing bullsh!t.

Seems like more than half the time to me, but I haven't been keeping count.

Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.

Awakened from their artificial slumber, they retrieve the pod and are shocked to discover the body of Virgil Nygard (Corbin Bernsen), supposedly executed 150 years earlier for leading his militia in the slaughter of more than a million people. They are even more shocked to discover that Nygard is alive.

Seems on topic since we're talking about revolts...

Good. We need revolution in every god damn country out there, from Cuba to United States, it's parasites at the helm and people who suffer under them. Forget about tyranny in North Korea, you can actually see there is tyranny, it's places like United States, Canada, and Europe, where real tyranny is masquerading under the cloak of freedom. North Korea don't actually blows the f*ck out of banana republics there over the I don't give a f*ck mountain. Revolution, to hell with governments, and in their place the original United States constitution.

Answer to 1984 is 1776.

I can't actually wait for the day when we storm and take FOX and CNN and put the truth beat on.

Pretty interesting, but my last name is not Nygard and my first name isn't Virgil. Too bad, that character seemed to be a pretty cool guy!
