Go to the Members List and click the heading for reputation. It doesn't give you numbers, but it has everyone in order.

I'm on the second page about halfway down! Yay me! I had no idea I was respected like that! Maybe its just because not much rep is spread around here. I got 1 point earlier today and I jumped up about 7 people. I only have like 17 points, and two negative reps that were meant to be positive. So its really 19, but oh well.

I don't think we should wh0re ourselves out though and trade rep or beg for it. I like it how it is right now. You only get rep if you really deserve it. Someone just gives it to you because they want to. Maybe you really helped them or you inspired them or whatever. That makes me feel good, even if its just some number on an internet forum. We're all still real people behind the screen names, right?

I've always been curious as to what purpose adding to someone's reputation does?

Then I just noticed 2 green squares below St8up's name, and when I put my mouse over it, it said Str8up will be famous soon enough.

Can you explain how rep points work and whats the purpose. Thanks, didn't want

Rep points are a feature of the vbulliten software. You can give rep points but the Admin here does not use it as i've seen it used on other forums.

On some other forums Rep points are prominently displayed in the users profile. Some forums have contests revolving around rep points. Some forums give title promotions when you reach a certain number of rep points.

I would like to thank my fellow Sosuavers, the chick who flaked on me after handing me her number that BROUGHT me to Sosuave, and lastly The Academy....

I didn't even realize those green bars were there till someone commented on how only two people have two green bars, and I realized i was one of them.

reputation to me seems broken, or at least half of it. You rarely ever see anyone with bad rep (red bars). Even most spammers who eventually get banned have green bars. I mean what's the point if the rep system doesn't identify disruptive posters?

I have mine enabled, but I'm not a huge fan of that sort of thing. Why? Because, I'm a little dubious of any system that inherently will have the effect of encouraging someone to post what others simply want to hear rather than what they actually think.

If it were me and the board allowed it, I'd rig the system to award a point whether negative or positive was clicked. That way, the system would be identifying posts that mattered or had some sort of impact over those that were, basically, forgettable. The few that gave me a neg hit in the past probably thought they insulted or "got at" me. What they actually did was tell me that I had an impact on them and I took it as a compliment. This gets into the whole "the opposite of love is not hate" truth..... I digress....

As for folks who are just completely out of line, that's what the moderators are for.

That's a pretty good point but the only problem is someone like IQQi would have 2 bars lol. And I think you can have negative rep, so that's the same concept but I'm not sure. I never thought to neg someone. Unless they're a known troll poster, I don't see the point.

I think a genuine negative rep that couldn't be viewed as trolling is going to be pretty rare..... not impossible, but pretty rare. Can you even think of one regular here who you think most people would consider a negative rep poster, but isn't trolling?

Well there's some regular posters who are basically trolls but maybe one bar is as slow as you can go on SS, or maybe guys on here don't bother negging and only add positive points when they see fit. I'd think if people were both negging troll posters much on here and it's possible to have a negative rep than someone like say iqqi would be in the red. I'm not really sure how it works though.

Uh I guess it would go over my head when both of your 2 post were right after mine and the first one even had arrows pointing up at my post. Then in the second one you end it with "I was talking about Karma", whatever that was referring to. Yeah, it's as clear as mud :crazy:.

Good point and taken into consideration, I should focus my efforts else where. Although there actually is something for someone to take away within some of our replies to some of the women posters on here.

Despite appearances, rep points aren't broken, they're just on a very small scale... meaning that it takes upwards of 100 points to get 2 bars.

How come when I try to give rep points it says you have to spread it around before giving it to guru again. When I can honestly say I haven't given any to guru before or anyone in a while for that matter.
