Thanks, I didn't know about that! I am pleased to see myself ranked high there. :) But generally, I do agree most posters on that list deserve to be there (with the obvious exceptions).

I have done. I suppose I am a little worried they'd give me neg points in retaliation though, which is an obvious flaw in the system.

I know a few of the posters up there have offered to me what would seem like illegal practice. They offered to give me good credit, if I give them some first. I would point fingers, but, nah, it won't help the overall situation.

Two of the top ten have offered to trade... that's as far as I will go.

<<For anybody who wants to disable their reputation>>

Top left corner is a link named "User CP" <click on it>

In the settings and options column there is a link "edit options" <click on it>

In the first set of options under "show my reputation level" <uncheck the check mark>

That really surprises me as I believe all of those guys have good advice to give.

However, sadly a lot of guys here care more about their egos and reputation in the community than giving tried and tested and practical advice. This is a problem that exists among PUAs and even the "top" gurus, and why we get so much bragging and 100s of theories that don't work in real life.

As far as I'm concerned, I give advice based on my experiences and believe it should help people avoid my mistakes and follow my successes. I'd like to think my reputation points are the result of helping visitors here, otherwise they're not actually worth anything.

Reputation is not useless. If a good amount of people use reputation properly, it works. If you bring down an idiot, but raise a great post, it helps to create the balance. Going into the Member List, and clicking the "Reputation" header will show you the top reputation earners.

Over time, if everyone starts and keeps using it properly, it can show someone that knows what they talk about.

What we really need is the number to show.
I agree with the idea of a reputation feature being useful but I don't think the one we have makes much sense.

Like I said we have 3 different levels that I know of: an "unknown quantity" a "distinguished road" and "off the scale"

Now really, don't we need more than those three to cover such a wide variety of posters? Also, what's the order? Is being on a "distinguished road" better than being "off the scale"? Is being an "uknown quantinty" better than "off the scale"?

They need to cover the Reputation feature in the F.A.Q. page or somewhere else.

Also, I tried looking for my username on the ranking. I couldn't find my name within the first four pages and I was well below some made up troll jibberish like "#$%%(#" or other crazy listings like that. I guess I'm not Mr. Popular on this board but it is obvioius that a lot of trolls have been on here messing with reputations. What good is the Reputation System if it's so easily manipulated?

there are many of us feeling the same way, that the trolls with just click on anyones rep and add whatever they want.

but then it still boils down to , its the freggin internet , what do we really expect?

You just use it honourably, and if everyone else does, the trolls effect will be inversely propertional to the support the whole community has.

It's like...
1 (troll bad) vs 50 (legit. Good) odds. Person has 98 points out of a possible 102. [3.9% troll effectiveness]
Or
1 vs 10 odds. Person has 18 points out of a possible 22. [18.2% troll effectiveness]
Or...
1 vs 2 odds. Person has 4 points out of a possible 8.[50.0% troll effectiveness]

Think about it. You defeat trolls by support, and that's EVERYONE's support.

Uhm, here's something i just discovered about this feature. You can't give a rep + or - to the same person twice in a row. You get a message telling you to spread out your rep points to other people as well. You also can't add rep more than once to the same post.

This provides some "reputation spam" protection, but the fact remains that only 3 qualifiers do not really make a SCALE. We need something more elaborate, and that stupid green dot needs to become multiple green dots to show a better reputation. Or better yet, red dots for bad reputation.

After 100 reputation points it adds on another green dot

I think it makes it all the way up to something like 9 dots on these scales...

Man, how was I so dense to miss the first question in this thread:p

Thanks for the "reputation scam" protection information though:D

Hey that sounds like it could be effective. Maybe they even have more than just the 3 "categories" that I mentioned if anyone ever climbs that high.

Still, they should have an explanation page somewhere to clue us in on how it all works.

each to his own. personally i never look at that green bar, and will only judge posters by who they are. people who post photos that show their game will always be high up in my book. otherwise, until i learn who somebody is, i tend to be very suspicious of their advice.

Go to the Members List and click on reputation to sort the names by reputation.

I'm so honored that DrBeard posted on my thread
