proteins and creatine

1st. does the proteins you eat before your workout have any use in building muscles? how long will they "last"? meaning, if you eat lots of proteins, when you haven't worked out for 3 days, then you work out the day after, will those proteins help building muscles? how long does their efficacy last?

2nd. i'm buying everyday a bar with like 30 g of proteins or something like that, 3 g of glutamine and 3 g of creatine. should i eat it all after the work out? or should i divide it in 2 pieces and eat one before and one after? should i eat these bars everyday or just when i train? i mean, will the creatine be wasted if i don't workout that same day or it will be stored?

3. It's OK to take a little protein on "off" days.
Wrong, eat the same amount of protein on off days - at least 1g of protein per lb bodyweight.

From my personal experience I disagree, it's better to take more protein on workout days. Taking protein on non-workout days doesn't make a lot of sense and I think you actually gain weight rather than using it for muscles.

And that bit about "protein bars" - Stick to the basics people. Milk + Meat = Real Protein. We have Whey to replace the protein that comes from milk. But Meat Protein is best. Who knows what the hell is inside protein bars, it's either 100% soy protein or at least 50% soy. Waste of money.

Dunno about Creatine, from studies I've seen, seems like a big o waste of money just to get that additional 1-2% gain.

Silverwex, how the hell do you survive on 1g per lb .. take in 2g per lb or thereabouts every day, workout or not, AND add a hefty pwo shake (50g+ protein, mine currently stands at 100g :D) on workout days.

So if you're say 160lbs you should be getting in 300g minimum solid protein every day without figuring pre- or post-workout shakes.

Of course, you could always take in far less and be content with gaining 1-2lbs per year..

Re Creatine, if you respond to it (most people do, if not monohydrate then CEE) it can be very beneficial BUT if you haven't got a good solid strength and nutritional base down first then it won't really help.

Jay-X: if you can afford protein bars, why don't you buy meat? Steak ain't cool enough for you?

cause i'd have to cook it and i already eat sh1tloads of milk at lunch and dinner:) anyway, i'm drinking about 1-2 liters of milk a day (which give me 30-60 g of proteins). is that enough or should i drink more? i've heard that more than 2 liters of milk per day is bad

Hi,

Well i actually do take more protein on workout days than non-workout days (because of my massive protein rich shakes after the workout). Im currently on about 240gs a day now. Sometimes more!

:)

that's some good advice man! the reason i don't want to buy steak for is my mother is not really cool with me eating that much... i mean, she would let me, but i don't want her to be upset about it. anyway, i can buy tuna (you'll be surprised, but i love the taste!) with no problem, since she wouldn't even notice (it's not to be cooked)... and anyway, she's a healthy freak and says fish is the best food that men can eat:)

also, what about peanuts? are they good? i mean the ones you usually buy at the circus or wherever... i'm not sure you call them peanuts in english... they are full of fats, but also looooots of proteins...

protein cant be stored, you gotta eat it every 2-3 hours or else when the body has a need for it it will breakdown the current protein that makes up your body.

a regular protein intake is best, immediately pre during and immediately post workouts your body is mainly concerned with carbohydrates.

or 1.2 g per pound of lean mass, of course most of us dont have accurate bodyfat readings.

It depends on three factors.

1) How much intake of protein you take per day (The amount)
2) How much exercise you do
3) How often you take protein (Frequency)

Protein will help you gain mass, however you must exercise regularly..at least about 3 times a week...If you eat a large intake of protein and don't exercise..that protien will turn into fat.
protein doesn't turn into fat.
(excess calories are sent to fat stores, when the glycogen stores are full.)
when there is no need for the protein, it is first dismantled and turned into ammonia + carbohydrates if energy is needed it will thus be used, before it is stored as fat.

it will be stored, it will be only excreted as creatinine if your creatine stores are already full.

Finally....I wouldn't trust a "bar form" of creatine... Get the powder...or if you're really hardcore get the serum... Those are probably FAR MORE effective..and they average about 5 grams of creatine...

Your safest bet is creatine monohydrathe..
WTF ? are u tryign to mess with this kid mixing in some common knowledge along with a load of crap ? First your body does not "become immune to its natural production of creatine"
second creatine doesnt last in liquid, the "serum" can't work because the creatine would be all creatinine wich your body simply excretes.

and have you tried simply eating that much protein and INCREASING YOUR OVERCALL CALORIES instaed of just the protein? I can gaurantee your "disagreement" stems from the results you get from the increased calories when you eat more protein rather than the protein itself.

actually eggs have the best grade of protein, the hype is that todays protein powders are better, but thats impossible, they might absorb better but cant be a more complete protein.

100 g post workout? and unless you are a lean 300 lbs your body will use most of it for energy.

Excess amino acids are converted to fats and sugars and follow the paths described above.

This is such a simple concept, but many people still believe that consuming lots and lots of protein will put muscle on their bones. Don't be fooled by this notion! Even excess protein turns to fat.

Personally id rather drink whey shakes all day but we all know how great that works.
