College!

I think everybody is apprehensive about college. Most people are
nervous, some people are downright terrified. I was excited. In my
graduating class of 750 I was the only one going to my school, which
is not small by any means. My room mate seemed cool and I was sure I
was going to have fun.

I got to my dorm early afternoon, met my room mate, and we rearranged
our room together until it was to our liking. At 4 o'clock I met
HBjoyful and her room mate, who I clicked with right away. HBjoyful
and I got along amazingly well - I sat next to her at dinner and we
talked the entire time, and she invited me to go to a party with her
and her roomie that night. On the way to the party she and I walked
alone, lost in conversation. I knew immediately upon meeting her that
I wanted to hook up with her, and as usual I set myself to the task.

After leaving the parties we returned to our dorms, and without much
difficulty I isolated HBjoyful in her room and locked the door. We
made out for a while and then went to bed. After only a few minutes of
hooking up (I like to think I'm that good) she really started to get
into it.

"Oh...wow...oh my god, matt, this is so bad."
"Why?"
"I just met you a few hours ago...and I just came in front of you. I
swear to god tomorrow I'm going to rape you."

well, swell. She offered to return the favor but I declined, citing
sleepyness. By now it was nearly 4 AM and I was freakin EXHAUSTED. We
fell asleep around five and I woke up at 7.

I don't know how many of you guys understand the picture perfect
scenario I was in. She'd made it clear to me throughout the evening
that she wants a care free, no-strings attached relationship. I
connected so amazingly well with her from the start. We both felt it.
I know we both decided a few minutes after meeting that we were going
to hook up, one way or the other.

We hooked up again a few hours ago, this afternoon, while sober. The
only problem is this.

She has had two serious boyfriend, both of whom attend this college.
One of them already hates me because he thought I was hitting on her
(we were just talking, at this point). the other one is our age and
she is still in an open relationshi pwith him. He flips out whenever
she has contact with guys and she's afraid that if he finds out about
our hooking up he'll kirk out. She's probably right, I met him and
he's a real nutjob. So is she, it turns out.

So we had an intense hook up last night and another one this afternoon
and nobody on the floor knows about it. Some guys suspect and
absolutely hate me for it, because they're fvcking AFCs and wish they
could get with her. That's just uncomfortable. For one thing, she
needs to take responsbility for her actions, and for another thing us
trying to keep it secret is a whole new level of complication that I
don't know if I'm willing to deal with.

Here is the real kicker.

I realized I'm in love with my girlfriend who I had to break up with
on tuesday. We broke up the day she left, and the day she left was the
day I realized I loved her. I don't know what to do. Can long distance
relationships work? Normally I'd say no, but my girlfriend,
HBAmazing, is the best thing to ever happen to me. I don't know what
her reaction would be if I suggested we stay together. I don't know if
I'll feel this way tomorrow - honestly, I hope I will. i called her
tonight and it was the hardest thing I'd ever had to do. I'll only see
her at the earliest at Thanksgiving, in 3 months. the next time I
could easily see her is June.

I guess I'm drunk and upset. I wanted to give you guys a great field
report of me living the dream but I got sidetracked. college, especially freshman year, is a time for us to all slut ourselves out and bang as many girls as possible. I am off to an amazing start. But what's the point if I can't get my mind off my now-ex-girlfriend everytime I'm with another girl?

I would love some
advice from the more experienced guys here...I'm at a complete loss
for what to do. I've been dating consistently now for almost a year,
never being truly single for more than two weeks briefly...is love
worth it? Should I take the leap and plunge into deep waters where
I've never been? I feel robbed - why did I date an amazing person for so long and only find love a day before she left me?

I don't know.

Bro.. it's gonna be hard to get over that relationship of yours no doubt, but it's college, and you know lately i've been thinking LTRs are better than just random girls... my advice is, it's college, and you have to make that big decision. Do you want her THAT badly, or do you think there's some girl out there btter than her, and you also have to consider you don't wanna be a loner for the next 4 years =\

Dude that's awesome. Sounds liek fun. I wish I were in college. Love can be hard. If you want to sacrifice your hooking up with random chicks, for a LTR, then go for it. I know if the right chick came along, then I would go into a LTR, and I would be faithful. Just depends on how much you want the girl. Every DJ has to eventually settle down.

once you actually reach the point where you can get the girls easily, you begin to realize you want something more, don't you?

meaningless hookups are great, but they can't be a substitute for having someone to really care about. I had a situation that was kinda the same, broke up with my girlfriend because i wanted to be free to hook up with a couple other girls i'd met guilt free. Basically I didn't realize what i had until i lost it.

I wish i could take it back, but its not to late for you. my advice, as someone whos been on this road a while, is to take a chance on the relationship. if it doesn't work out there will always be other girls.

Well first off, I'd ask this question. Are you sure you're in love with her, or is it just feelings because she's not there anymore?

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

Ah yes, thus the paradox eh? ;)

Mr. Debonaire alluded to this earlier, and I will take it a step further:

"once you actually reach the point where you can get the girls easily, you begin to realize you want something more, don't you? meaningless hookups are great, but they can't be a substitute for having someone to really care about. I had a situation that was kinda the same, broke up with my girlfriend because i wanted to be free to hook up with a couple other girls i'd met guilt free. Porky... you very well may come across a thousand women in your lifetime. And you know what? You could easily travel down the road that you are supposed to travel down and spend your freshman year ****ing hoes and drinking beer. Or, you could travel in unchartered waters and attempt the supposedly impossible with your ex-girlfriend who, as you said, was the best thing (thus far) to ever happen to you.

Here... I'll make this decision easy for you.

If **** doesn't work out between you and your ex... there's a whole new class of ass that will proceed you. And another thing, those girls that you passed on this year, will be a year older, and a year hotter.

Take the challenge my friend... there will be plenty of time for meaningless hookups. ;)

Guys, thank you so very, very much for all of these replies. I was afraid last night that it was just the alcohol, but I'm sober now and I feel exactly the same.

Here's the thing. We dated from April to August, but broke up for 5 weeks this summer while she did follow her destiny. I already let her go, and while she was gone I worked out sh!t that was holding me back from loving her and when she got back our relationship was better than ever.

I don't know about you guys, but I've never dated any girls who I was proud to bring home. She's hung out with just my parents before while I was gone, and they're absolutely wild about her.

Well first off, I'd ask this question. Are you sure you're in love with her, or is it just feelings because she's not there anymore?
I don't know what love is. I just know that I have never felt this way about a girl AND been sure that it was what I wanted. I usually have some reservations about opening this much of me up to somebody, but not now.

thanks guys.

I'm taking the plunge.

I guess everybody needs to experience an LDR once in their lives.

My dad shot me an e-mail late last night.

"Hey,

so did you end up with HBjoyful or the other one?"

I replied with:

"HBjoyful.

but I think I'm in love with HBamazing. I'll call you tomorrow."

I called him and let him know I was being serious. He said great. Then I called amazing and sealed the deal. My dad looked up plane ticket prices for me.

this is gonna work, for a while at least.

I haven't ended things with joyful. I feel like there is something to end, but it may be a little silly to do so. Most people would just let it fizzle out by treating the other person differently but that's not really my style. I'll figure it out later. thanks for the help guys, this is a closed case.

I don't know Matt, you always looked down on the whole relationship thing in the past. A free agent were you at heart! It was the thrill of the chase in all our conversations. Again it still is. Look at how you glorified getting HBjoyful as opposed to how your post ended.

Get plenty of different ass, big pimp on campus. Social god because of it... I know these are things that stood high in your mind. Is it worth the switch for awhile?

I ask myself the same question and tell myself:

Let's find out.

Snap out of it man, you've only experienced a piece of the pie, and there's plenty more to come! Why jeapordize your social/academic life for a girl that you already broke up and moved away from? Come on man, don't let us down, you know you're in for better things. LISTEN to that Quote from the second post from The Education of Little Tree...if you let it go and it comes back its good but if it doesn't it's not meant to be yours. yowza. thanks for the spirited input.

A DJ with hopes and dreams does whatever he wants, which is what I did last week. It's also what I did last night by breaking up with my girlfriend and asking out Joyful.

My girlfriend was supposed to come visit me this weekend, but it became clear that her parents would never let her. I realized we were both being held back by the relationship, and from our conversation yesterday I can tell she thought the same thing. After hearing that I might not even be able to see her at Thanksgiving, well, it was a no brainer

So, for now I'm casually dating both Joyful and my now-ex. which is great, and I'm happy about it because it leaves my options open and lets me take things easy.

I'm proud of you man, you did what you set out to do and now you know.

See now, you can do whatever you want and nothing is eating at you.

I hope guys learn an important lesson from this.
