Philadelphia and the Super Bowl, worth checking out, or a likely clusterf***?

I watched a couple games the last couple of weeks but basically have checked out of football. I played in high school, I was a linebacker and a quarterback but I preferred defense. The environment that surrounds the pro game is what most people draw to. The game itself is background to the party. I grew up attending games every home game in New York since the age of seven. I’ve pretty much seen it all and how’s it’s evolved. That’s why I am giving the specific advice I am giving. Mix Philadelphia, a city that has almost zero morale, majorly working class and has almost nothing going for it,( except football and a statue of a fictional boxer ) with the birds being in the Super Bowl, and the deep drinking culture in Philly and the game itself. It’s the best way to approach. I would do it if down there the way I am outlining.
That's actually not true. Philadelphia has one of the greatest public art/works collections in the US because any project that wants to use municipal funds has to allocate 10% of what they get towards a public work to beutify the city. They were the first city to start this in 1959.

Statues, murals, fountains, dome toppers, sculptures and various other works of art are all over the place there.

It's also one of the most historical cities in the US along with Boston and played a key role as the house of the first Continental Congress and the defacto capital of the US colonies for quite some time even before the revolutionary war.

Saying "Nothing is there" is akin to saying I have no clue what the fvck I am talking about.

Yes i understand the historical significance of Philadelphia. The city now is a disgrace to the names of all those who instituted what you said there. Unless youre attending a handful of colleges or in a handful of businesses, is no reason whatsoever more than once to visit that city. It’s filthy. I have spent four years of my life there. I visit periodically. I am confident in what I am saying.

I have played tennis for a good portion of my life. I have watched some of the action from the major tournaments. In theory, it can help. In reality, the best thing to improve in tennis is time on the court either in practice sessions or in real matches.
Funny you mention tennis, I was thinking about tennis specifically when I wrote that. I used to be obsessed with tennis when I was younger. I noticed I tended to pay better after I had watched a match on TV. Something about the players' movement and shot selection rubbed off on me, or reinforced what I already knew. Later, when I took up golf, I didn't notice this effect, but it turned out I stunk at golf. I think I just waited too long in life to pick it up.

That’s any restaurant anywhere. Please don’t even attempt to compare Philadelphia to New York. I am in New York every day. Philly is a disgrace. Their people have no pride.

Men frequently err by talking too much. They often monopolize conversations, droning on and on about topics that bore women to tears. They think they're impressing the women when, in reality, they're depressing the women.

Interesting. The only effect that I have ever noticed playing tennis near a semifinal/final of a major (when I tend to watch tennis) is that I am somewhat more energetic and passionate about playing. That could translate into better play.

At both public and private courts, it is more difficult to get court times in the 2nd week of a major or in the few days immediately after the final of a major than any other time during the year.

The effect of the previous sentence is somewhat dependent upon a region's climate as well. Demand for indoor courts is less affected by a region's climate.

Philadelphia is passionate about its pro sports teams. That's more true than most cities. Like Philadelphia, Dallas has pro sports teams in football, baseball, basketball, and hockey.

The most recent appearances of the Rangers and Mavericks in the World Series and NBA Finals didn't affect seduction in Dallas. I didn't mention those events on the "Dallas Scene" thread on this forum. Neither of those series were competitive either. The Rangers dominated their series and the Mavericks were dominated by the Celtics in theirs.

The Dallas Cowboys have not played in the Super Bowl since before I arrived in Dallas.

The Cowboys are more of a big deal in Dallas-Fort Worth than the Rangers, Mavericks, or Stars (hockey).

I also think the Super Bowl hits differently than a World Series, NBA Finals, or Stanley Cup Finals. Even if the Phillies, Sixers, or Flyers got to a winner take all Game 7 in those series, it wouldn't have the same meaning as a Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is a bigger cultural event than any of those.

The Eagles have been good in recent years. A quick Google search shows that this is the Eagles' 3rd Super Bowl appearance in the last 8 years. The Eagles won the 2017-18 season Super Bowl (February 2018) but lost in the 2022-23 season Super Bowl (February 2023).

I have found game watching events to be a bit of a penis block for seducing. The alumni group game watching events I've been to have all been regular season college football and college basketball games. I also don't tend to go to bars where hardcore sports fans would be in Dallas.

There is one bar in Dallas that has a happening singles scene and it is near the American Airlines Center (arena where Mavericks and Stars play). I reviewed the venue in depth in November 2023 on the Dallas Scene thread. Plenty of people go to this bar after Mavericks games, Stars games, or concerts at American Airlines Center. The bar does well even on nights when there isn't an event at the arena, but it is a little bit better after an event at the AAC.

If the Cowboys had been to the Super Bowl more recently, I think I would have more direct advice applicable to @BPH and his current situation.

The hell it is.

I've worked in many restaurants in many different cities and never had any of those issues.

I would have freaked out if I would have seen either of those things.

In cities with rat and c0ckroach infestations, sure. In most places, hell no. You'd be shut down by the health inspector so fast it would make your head spin.

Okay, well when Le Bernadin sets up shop in Philly give me a shout and I’ll go see if it’s anything close to the one here…. Bc last time I checked NYC has multiple Michelin star restaurants and Philly doesn’t have one. I’m a pats guy and I knew Joey vento

There's enough going on in Philadelphia. A guy who isn't into spectator sports isn't going to be too big of an issue with seduction there. While Philadelphia is more passionate about pro sports teams than most US cities, it's not a seduction dealbreaker. Plenty of women aren't into spectator sports in Philadelphia.

Super Bowl Sunday will bring out some people who don't usually bother to watch Eagles games during the regular season.

I wouldn't know...never ate in one and probably never will. Not paying exorbitant prices for the right to say "I ate in a Michelin Star Restaurant" when I can go down the street and get similar food that's just as good for half the price or less

Plus I would rather go to the middle of the hood like where I grew up and hang out with some real mofo's instead of these rich white people who have their nose stuck up so high they can't even see where they are walking.

I think I'd rather jump off the Empire State building than be stuck in a restaurant full of those people.

I would if I lived there but not planning to now. You should be there in the afternoon before kick off making friends through the game if you do.
Even if you're right, I don't think I could justify that time commitment...

Spending my entire Sunday to maybe get laid, especially when I'd have work the next day seems so wasteful. This is why I asked a similar question back on Thanksgiving Eve - because I didn't want to spend half my day at the bar just to get in.

IF I were to go I'd almost certainly go after the game ends. I have a friend at my gym who showed me what it was like at Xfinity Live this past weekend for the playoff game and it was jam-packed with (mostly) dudes, same with Broad Street.

You probably have the most firsthand experience answering the core of my question, but yeah, I can't justify spending my whole day at the bar to maybe get laid later.

I would only go if I genuinely enjoyed it, like anything else one would choose to do. I personally would go.

Someone jumped off that building a few days before Christmas. I was at an Irish pub two blocks away. I must have missed it by five minutes walking across town. Bartender at the pub goes ‘as if the traffic wasn’t bad enough already’

For real. Who'd want to hang out with a bunch of rich, stuck up white people when you can go to the hood and get mugged by some homeless "real mofo"

As a side note, actual rich people rarely dine at Michelin-rated restaurants. That's where average people go to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.

Nah, B. All you gotta do is stay away from Lil Pookie and Ray Ray and you'll be fine.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

You might be able to find something better that day or the day before that gives you a better chance of getting laid.

I went to a popular bar when there was the Paul v Tyson fight going on. It was a bunch of guys that were all standing in the way, huddled around watching whatever TVs were available, and having extremely emotional reactions collectively to what was going on.

I could not have cared less, but because of this "event" it was just crowds of dudes. My concern if I go out to Philly is that it will just be more of that.

It is a valid concern. Spectator sports in general tend to be a penis block.

More men than women are into spectator sports. Public venues might be more of a sausage fest, like your experiences with the recent Mike Tyson fight. Women who might be at some public venue Super Bowl event also might not be in the right mind or right place to have an extended conversation that could lead to sex or a drinks date on a future night.

I have said before that the local alumni groups hosting game watching events for college football and college basketball regular season games have been worthless for me for seduction. However, alumni events that aren't centered around sports are often more sociable and women are more open to conversations to lead to sex or dates.

I also think public events in Philadelphia will have a different vibe than private residence parties. Over the years, I have gone to more private residence parties/gatherings on Super Bowl Sunday as compared to events in public.

One year, I did a public game watching event on Super Bowl Sunday. Prior to kickoff, females were more receptive in conversations than after the start of the game. At that particular event, the best play was to ask out and set up dates for future nights.
