well to start off, I want to tell everyone that I am okay, and all is getting better somehow.

Well, it starts off with the fact that going into christmas... my family for one reason or another, at least my mom's side, doesn't necessarly like me around. My mom's husband is intimiated by me, and is always trying to one-up me, my mom is mad because I make more money than she does, and my Grandmom and aunts get mad because I don't say yes everytime they ask for money. So i didn't get invited to come over for christmas. The only one that I see on a regular basis is my 5 year old sister, who I usually pick up from school Wednesday-Friday and drop off at my mom's.

So I get a call on Christmas morning, around 7. it's my little sister, and in her cutiest voice, asks me to come to church with her because she wants to sit with me...

Now, I not only don't go to church, I am an athiest.. however there isn't much I wouldnt' do for my little sister, so I decided to go.

So I am sitting in church with my little sister, all is well, we are having a good time.

So I tell my mom I got Bri (my sister) and Caleb (my step brother, who is 3) christmas presents but I left them at home and have to go get them.

So I run by my house, and I notice my door is wide open... And I am thinking.. damn, I know I was in a hurry and all, but I am pretty damn sure I locked the door.

Then it hit me when I saw the door latch was halfway torn off.. I had been robbed.

All my christmas presents, not too many, but enough.

2 laptops (both mine), one a newer Alienware Area 51 laptop, the other an ECS I had built myself, both gone.

I worked off the ECS, over a year and and a half of valuble horse racing information, over thousnads of results, stats, etc, down the drain.

Not to mention my 3 checkings and 2 savings accounts, my 3 Credit cards, including 1 Amex card witch is pretty much limitless, and other money market accounts I had were on that PC as well.

My SS number, anything important you can think of was on that PC.

Luckliy I was able to get down to the bank today before any damage could be done and change over my accounts.

humm..what else.. some money I had laying around... like 325 dollars... I just so happen to have had it sitting out, I was going to give it to my dad's mom so she could pay her car note.

Some suits I had.. not to many of them.. I have like 15 suits in all, only like 2 were taken.. I guess they were trying to get in and out.

however, they didn't miss the plasma TV I I had just bough...61" pioneer.. it was my Christmas present to me, even though I had bought it last month.

Now, I have insurance, and I keep reciepts for everything I have, so everything exepct the cash I will be able to get back... but I cant' stay there anymore.. what if I WAS there

I decided then and then to move out.. so I spent Christmas packing my valuable stuff and putting other stuff in my storage.. my two best friends were out of town, and my dad has his family, so I did it all myself.

So I spent today getting my bank stuff changed over, and I rented a hotel for a month until I can figure out where I am going to move.. I am going to list my house for sale hopefully sometime this week, and I guess I will stay here until It sales and I move somewhere else. It's a nice house (actually in the better part of my city, which makes me think someone had their eye on me) so I don't see my having too much of a problem selling it, however you never know.

anyway, i had a horrible christmas and i am just glad it's over.

Not much can stop a thief from breaking in a place.

Did the cops fingerprint the place at all?

oh, then to make matters worse, on Sunday, I stopped by my mom's house for no more than 5 mintues, just to drop off presents... I was in a not to great mode.. I was pissed to be honest, but I kept my feelings inside to myself, because it was christmas, and I didnt' want to ruin it for anyone else.

So instead of me staying around, I excused myself from their house, because like I said, I was in a bad mode and didn't want it to spred.

So yesterday, I stopped by my mom's house for a very quick second, no more than 2 mintues, to put together something for my sister while she wasn't there.

So my step dad walks in the house, and says "is your attitude better today? I almost had to whip your ass yesterday, you are lucky it was christmas, or Iw ould have whipped your ass"

Now.. He is bigger than me, but I am by no means small.. I'm a hell of alot musclar than he is, he's big by FAT if you get my drift...

but the point is... I'm a grown ass man..y ou don't talk to a grown man like that, step dad or not, my DAD doesn't talk to me like that and I am actually afraid of my dad.

Besides the fact that my house got broken into on christmas and yes, I was in a pissy mode, but that should be understandable... some things are better left unsaid... Regardless if it's his house or not, if you have a problem with someone, talk to them with some respect. he reminds me of the guy in the club that tries to be hard, and talks to a girl's BF like he's big and bold, and says the wrong thing and get's his ass whipped.

If he wasn't my step dad, I would have let him know how I felt about him trying to "whip my ass", but instead, i chuckled, and left. my mom called me and asked why did I leave so early, and I told her simply, her husband said something to me I didn't necessarly appricated so I left.

If you want to talk, talk to your friends. If you want a girl to like you, listen to her, ask questions, and act like you are on the edge of your seat.

No.. first off, it took the cops litearly an hour to get there after I called them, and I like I said, I live in an upscale part of town.

only thing he did was ask for the serial numbers of all the stuff I had and just starred at him like he was on crack or something.

I told him to just write down the stuff that was taken so he can file the police report and I will worry about getting it back.

I have an Alarm on the house, but I don't have a phone line so the alarm wasn't activiated.

I honestly think someone must have followed me home one night.. I have a pretty nice car, and I am black.. I seriously doubt it was one of my neighboors, but I am going to get a gun registered soon so I can pretect myself it if happens again

robbing a muscled, black guy, in a nice car is a good idea?

getting a gun is a great idea.

something else for them to steal if you aren't home.

or something to scare them into doing something irrational if you are home.

took the police an hour? I wonder why. Maybe because it was christmas.

a) they wouldn't have a full staff.

b) you'd already been robbed.

I doubt the robber had any intention of returning.

I feel for you. Being robbed would never be easy to deal with.

Your a smart guy. You should deal with it well.

Also, the first thing taught in IT classes at school is to back stuff up. Maybe you shouldn't have dropped out.

yeah, it's christmas and all, and I am a pretty undrstanding guy, I wasn't that mad that it took them an hour, however it is still no fun waiting.

Rational or not, I'll be damned if someone breaks in my house and I have absolutly no way to protect myself. I live by myself and I have no kids, no threat of a child getting a gun and going physco

As far as backing the stuff up, some of It I do have backed up... some of the horse racing information, about 60% of it, however, it's not that I CAN'T get the information, it's the time that it took to get all of it back, and setup exactly how I wanted it.

BTW, I have an external HD, and they took that too.

I sense sarcasm. Maybe you should stay in school for the rest of your life.

Backing up datas is common sense. And that's exactly as the saying goes, "never keep all the eggs in one basket". Doesn't take a college graduate to know that. He SHOULD have dropped out, for someone of his caliber.

I once worked with a guy who was on work-release from prison and a former house-robber himself. He told me that he picked out cops and people that he knew would have guns as his robbery targets, because guns always sell before everything else. He would just knock on the door in the middle of the day when there were no cars there. If someone answered, he would ask them if they wanted a newspaper subscription or some bs. If no one answered, he kicked in the door.

You could consider a dog or two instead of a gun. Thieves hate dogs. My own worries about an intruder would concern being able to call off my two German shepherds before they hurt him too badly. Here is a breeder near you, his web site design is difficult to look at, but that seems normal with dog breeders:
http://www.svhunde.com/

I am partial to shepherds, but they might not like the hot Arkansas summers. Dobermans and Rottweilers are two other breeds which have been bred to be guard dogs.

Sorry to hear that bro.

It seems that the more successful you become the bigger the target on your back gets. Sad, but true.

I had a K9 German Shepard when I was younger, barney, a full blooded 140 shepard, but my dad sold him when my parents got divorced.

I recently had an Alaskian Husky, which now is pretty big, about 100 pounds at leat and taller than me when he stands up, Rico but he ****ted everywhere in my house and couldn't stand me, so I gave him to this girl I knew who had a Alaskian Husky, and he loves it over there.

however, not a bad idea. I like dogs anyway. I am still going to move, but when I do, I wouldn't mind getting a dog.. if I get an Siberian Husky (pretty much same dog, a tad bit smaller) I will get two but I am leaning towards the German Shepard

That totally sucks ass... I'm sorry to hear it.

Your stuff has probably been hocked or fenced by now, so your odds of getting it all back are not that good.

If you keep any secret info on your computer, encrypt the hell out of it. I use Triple DES encryption, which is one of the best methods out there. (although its probably going to be replaced by something better eventually) Like any encryption, it is possible to break, but it takes a pro to do it and the average thief is too fvcking stupid to pull it off.

Look at it this way.. be glad you weren't there b/c you still have a chance to rebuild. If you had been there the motherfvcker could have shot you and taken your stuff anyway.

That's a pretty bad Christmas, but there are people out there who had worse.

I just got back from a funeral of a friend of mine from highschool. He died of complications related to Luekemia without warning 2 weeks ago at the age of 22. Appeared perfectly healthy, rarely got sick, and even went mountain biking a few days before he went into a coma. He also just got married 5 months ago and graduated from college last spring. His parents and wife were so upset that they couldn't even speak at the memorial.

1. the title of the thread was ovbiously sarcastic. I mean my gosh people, yes I had a horrible day that day, but you think I am neieve to think that I had it worse than anyone else in the world?

Tony Dungy had a child that died.

Some dude in NO got shot 10 times by the police the other day.

I guess next time I should be alot more careful with my wording, because some of you take things a little too literarly.

2. I called my dad and told him someone broke in, who in turn called my mom and told her.. otherwise I wouldn't have told her, what can she do?

I know he knew what happened because as soon as I walked though the door my stepdad told me he felt sorry for me about my house and all.

Put yourself in my shoes... I don't talk to my family much.. my two best friends are out of town... I wanted to get something off my chest, so i make a thread, and I get

And therein lies proof of what absolute f*cking exhibitionist motives were behind starting this thread.
you don't know why I do what I do, you could never know why I do what I do. I just wanted some words of comfort and to get some crap off my chest.

I really need to watch what i say, are you guys really that damn angry with your lifes, that I mention that I get ROBBED and I could have possibly been in DANGER, and all you can see in the entire thread are some of the items that I say were stolen.

I have money. Deal with it. So does Bill Gates, Donald Trump and about 1 million other people in this country. I don't have anywhere near as much as they do, but you get the point.

That right there goes to show me the progress of some of the people on this forum.. you are the same type of people that think "hey, why do you care, you can just buy new crap". You are the same type guys that get mad at me because I busted my ass to get where I am in life, whereas most of your type sits around and live off their parents, or go to a community or small college and expect things to "take care of themselves", while putting no effort into bettering themselves.

The only reason I even bother coming here, besides the fact I like some of the people here, is to offer advice. I say constantly, "it's not hard.. work on yourself, the women will come" and "hey, women arent' going anywhere, the more well rounded you are, the better off you will be" and no one pays a lick of attention, but when someone such as myself or Star8up has a little success, you get blackballed by people who are too lazy to do crap for themselves. Am I supposed to feel bad for you becuase I have a better work ethic than you? I wasn't born rich, or inherited a ****load of money. Hell my mom kicked me out the house when I was 19. I didn't date a girl from the time I was 18 until a week after I turned 21, didnt' even talk to one. I did one thing and one thing only. I was that dedicated in reaching my goals.

There is a saying, that nothing is out of reach for anyone, however most people dont want success enough to sacrifice the things they like most.

(Rant mode off)

you can close this thread, for the ones that offered their words of encuragement, thanks a bunch, I really needed it.
