Most of the country songs are about loving, not approval songs, but about hooking up.

I don't like emo/alternative rock songs, no matter how much my girlfriend likes it.

Jazz is too pompous (at least anything from the 60's or further although Swing/Big band is amazing)

Pretty much every music has its AFC music, but you just have to sift through the crap to find the good stuff.

No it doesn't. But there are songs that are about being an AFC. "Girl, please approve of me".

There are different levels. What I think is being discussed is the tragic, "my life is over because the girl doesn't accept me" type of lyric---which is exactly what we discuss on this site. So you're going to think about these new concepts and then NOT NOTICE those SAME sentiments in the songs you hear?

So now you're singing along. "girl take me back I'm such a hopeless loser with you please approve of me". In itself it's nothing. It's just a song. The point is when you identify with the lyric.

If you say "yeah that song is about my life, I want the girl to accept and approve of me, I'm gonna keep listening to that song over and over again" then you are reinforcing your own helplessness.

Better (to me) type lyrics are "even though this sucks I'm going to be fine" there are plenty of songs like that as well.

There are songs for pretty much every situation there is. Just because someone can match a part of their life with song lyrics doesn't mean they're gonna listen to a song about breaking up with his gf recently and never get over it.

And yes in itself it is nothing.. just a song. My point being.. you guys are taking this too far because it is just a song and you're trying to say they're wussy songs when in reality its just a matter of taste and your mood. If you're feeling ****ty about something, then you're not gonna want to listen to something really happy..

Just because I listen to a certain rap song over and over doesn't mean its gonna make me want to go out and shoot someone. If you let music tell you how to feel, then you have bigger issues to deal with..

People identify with the music they relate to, simple as that. I think it's perfectly normal to notice the AFC mindset all over the place, music, movies, whatever.

A guy I used to really like, before he got famous and killed himself, was Eliot Smith. Like 90% gloomy, depressing, life-sucks songs. You can't listen to a constant stream of that and not be affected. But of course, the guy had a great voice and was a good songwriter and was extremely talented, I can still enjoy his stuff from time to time.

thats not the issue its that music affects your mood,psychologically music is sustenance. ITs food for thought and can alter your mood by singing it and listening to it constantly. EXample listen to im going down by mary j blige everyday for week alone and sing it. I bet you wont feel happy as sh*it.

Again, you're not gonna listen to downer songs if you're happy, and vice versa. Listening to music that identifies with a part of your life can be theraputic. Everything can change the way you feel if you let it.. reading the paper, TV shows, movies.. anything. You control how you feel, and if you let music bring you down just because the lyrics were depressing, then I think the song isn't the problem, and you need to make some life changes.

I agree with this. And even if you do hear stuff that is outside what you're feeling, you're more likely to just tune it out naturally.

I think what happens is as guys move away from AFCdom they question what their real preferences ARE. Previously they may have just gone along with the crowd because that's the thing to do, so whatever is on the radio and is popular, is their favorite song because it's everyone else's.

I dont know most of the time I just listen to the music and if I like how it sounds I will listen to it, I mean hell I have tried the whole gamut of music(Well not literaly but I have heard lots of different types) I heard a little country, was into rap for a while, go into some techno , got into movie soundtracks(Still got Godzilla the one with nick detopalus lol and Mortal Kombat Annihilation) I have friends in band so I go to some concerts, I have been to plays that had some pretty cool music and now I am into Rock, and I have heard death metal(that stuff made me feel dizzy lol). Does this mean that I am an AFC?

I dont think so....Music I think well for me personally I just listen to the beat and if it sounds good I will listen to it otherwise I will put in one of my cds and listen to one song then change it back to radio....Right now I was listening to DragonForce coming back home and before that I was listening to the Killers(First CD) and some Lillian Garcia....I just love to listen to music, I dont think you can tell if someone is an afc just by what they listen too.....unless he gots posters and is a die hard fanatic to some borderline stuff.

some of the older rock isn't bad. I can see that you may think it's AFC when they talk about their feelings and stuff but that doesn't mean that the music is AFC.

If you think about, these rock stars who write this music don't need all this game stuff. They're ROCK STARS. That's a huge turn on for just about any girl. They can just be themselves and have their picking of the hottest girls around.

ex of non AFC song: Bad to the Bone AND If You Don't Start Drinkin' (George and The Destroyers Thorogood)

"AFC" song: most old Beatles songs. (don't get me wrong I love the Beatles. Just don't like the way they sing. They sing about stuff that we should keep to ourselves. I think that's why is popular. Girls 'want' a nice guy and guys even if they are DJs still think like that about their gf if they really like her a lot. Again these guys are good example of how rock starts don't act like their music.)
