The gym is fun if you keep pushing yourself...I despise fridays cause of Squats but at the same time I LOVE fridays because of squats.

I hope tonight is a good ppv , wish the dragon was going to fight rashad I think instead of rampage but what can you do. I wonder if the axe murderer is going to come back after that embarasing defeat.

So how does one go about choosing a good gym? What do they usually charge? How long does it take before you start to feel like you are accomplishing something?

Those are some lousy matches; the fights with names are easily predetermined and the rest are no-names.

See who the instructors are and were they got there blackbelts from if your looking to do brazilian jiu-jitsu. google there names and you should get some info. If there is a Graciebarra school near you than I recommend them for jiu-jitsu. After about 20 classes your ground game will get much better. You will toy with guys on the street after 4 months at 3 days a week. ( I am not talking about 6"6 265 pound steroid guys and all american football players and wrestlers) I am talking about the general population. Go for it. Bjj is pretty expensive anywere between 80 dollars to 150 a month depending on were you live.

agreed. That is the most important part. The guy teaching you directly need not be world class, but the guy who gave him his belt should be. I have been impressed by meeting cage fighters who claim to have a bjj blue belt...only to find out later that they ordered the belt over the Internet. Belts are like college degrees in that way. If you tell people you have a certain degree, the first thing they ask is "where from?" With belts, the question is "who gave it to you?"

UFC 98 is tonight

I will be at a local mma event, so I won't get to see it. A guy I know is fighting a former UFC fighter from Israel. He's gonna get creamed; the guy he is fighting is world class, fought Jake Shields last year.

I just watched a few Jake Shield fights - one of them was him beating the founder of my jiu-jitsu school, a former bjj world champ himself. Shields has his game together. I think he is at least a nominee for p4p best in the world right now, especially if he could beat GSP. I am going to try and study his films more - he does a lot of things that I want to get better at - like punching from all of the ground positions and smoothly transitioning between positions. He manages to maintain mount while keeping posture to punch. It's hard to appreciate how difficult things like that are to do.

Haha, Rashad got his ass handed to him. Thats what he gets for jumping around like a monkey on PCP before the fight and getting gassed before it all even started.

Now we got a guy with some class holding the belt for a change.

Jake Shields p4p? Hell no! His resume does not deserve P4P. Not saying he sucks, just that he's not proven P4P yet.

I don't even think Machida can claim P4P standings. He needs to show that he can dominate a couple more top 10 fighters before he can be P4P. If he can beat Rampage and Forrest, then he's punched his ticket.

fwiw, I would put Shields behind Fedor, Silva, and GSP at a minimum, as well as probably a few others, like Andrei Arlovski and even Machida, Damian Maia is probably better, too. My p4p nominee list is long.

Then i guess i would have to ask what you're definition of P4P is.

My P4P looks like this;
1. Fedor - the only guys who we're not sure can't beat him are Lesnar, Barnett & Overeem.
2. GSP - cleaned out a very stacked and active division dominantly. Also beat 2 other P4P candidate
3. A. Silva - cleaned out his division dominantly which is a bit weaker than LW & WW. would be above GSP if he beats Forrest in LHW div.
4. Torres - very active and dominantly finishes opponents
5. Penn - only 5 because he's lost in the WW div. But, he has beaten a P4P candidate
6. Matt Hughes - not a fan, but he was so dominant during his heyday & beat a P4P candidate.

I honestly don't think anyone else can be on the P4P list until they amass the record these men have.

I can see potential in Machida but he will have to defend his title a couple of times. People i'd like to see him fight for P4P ranking;

1. Rampage
2. Forrest
3. Shogun
4. Hendo

I think that list is definitive of the top 205-ers.

Inquisitus I think you tremendously overrate lesnar. Mir is going to snuff lesnar out a 2nd time.
