a lot of times when I go to pet a milf's dog, she asks me "do you have a dog?"
is this a normal question that she also asks the next guy, or is she observing something unique about me with respect to dogs?
this weekend this milf specifically told me "you have a special connection with dogs"
or is she just trying to flirt?

I already knew the answer to this question as I clicked on this thread ;)

Then you respond:
"Well, they don't call me the Dog Whisperer for nothing you know!"
"My name is Ceasar, what's yours?"

This is MILF feeling herself and trying to see how much BS she can get away with. Or she's in unicorn hunting mode

She's qualifying you on sh1t that doesn't matter. If they're leading with sh1t like this, they'll expect you to share their exact taste in music, shop at the same stores, hold the exact same political opinions. The obstacles won't end, and meanwhile she's old and a single mother.

Seems like a natural question to ask someone who pets your dog.
I've rarely gotten asked this unless there's been an established convo about dogs. This strikes me as a awkward "what do you do for a living?" style question.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Say you're on a waiting list for a rescue dog.

Guys are way analyzing the most common human interactions...
You pet a dog - you must be comfortable around dogs

Not everything has to be an alpha scenario...
It seems it's being asked as a qualifying question. Like the Milfs are being nosy and judgy.

A lot of men tend to overthink things. By applying so much gravity to her question, it puts you in the place of the responder. That is female energy.

You should be the initiator in your conversations, not the responder, not wondering what this or that means. It’s the woman’s role to wonder. It’s the man’s role to convey a DGAF attitude. I’m talking about energy flow here.

Her question was simple conversation, nothing more. I’ll say it again… Men tend to vastly over-think what women say. 80 to 90% of what women say is meaningless nonsense. Take that to the bank.

It can be an advanced **** test, but It depends on her next question. Did she follow up with a next question, if yes what was it?
I don't remember, usually I say "no, but I love dogs" or "no, it's too much of a responsibility" and no further questions are asked.

you are right. I am not the type of guy who overanalyzes things now. I used to be, not anymore. but I felt like I am getting this question "do you have a dog?" at an unnaturally high rate, wanted to know if I am right and if yes, why it's happening. this is really about me and dogs, not me and the milfs. wanted to know if these milfs are seeing a special bond between me and dogs.

@espanish -- Why are you writing about MILFs? MILFs are often a fantasy of younger, sexually inexperienced men. You're 39 years old. Your focus needs to be only childless women.

I also think the term MILF is totally misused. A lot of people use the term to describe an attractive 30s/40s woman. There are plenty of attractive 30s/40s women who are childless and not MILFs. An attractive 37 year old childless woman is not a MILF. She's an attractive older woman. She's also not a cougar either unless much younger men are her thing. An attractive 25 year old with a child is a MILF. Though few call the 25 year old woman with a child a MILF.

Older women have started getting noticeably c0ckier the past couple of years, it could start a shift towards younger men re-focusing their attention on their age-appropriate cohorts.

And @espanish, I have to disagree with SW15 a bit here. If the woman is 33+, you're better off if she's a mother, all other things being equal. (This is assuming you're not looking for an LTR). The childless 33+ woman will be more demanding on average.

This is likely true. Older women are just as entitled and delusional as the younger counterparts.

Why? A 33+ childless male and a 33+ single mother are not a good fit. What lifestyle commonalities and common experiences do they have? A childless male who settles for a single mother is a quasi cuck.

They're a good fit for any kind of casual relationship if you're not looking for anything serious. A lot of single mothers have college degrees, are cultured, have decent careers, are middle-upper class or above.

Now if you're looking to spend a lot of time with them, and possibly cohabitate or get married, then I agree that you do want to have the same child/childless situation as they do.

I will say that in my experience in dating situations with single mothers (I have no kids), it's actually worked out because the single mothers I dated would be stretched for time, and I would have more time available since I had no kids of my own to deal with. So imo it's kind of a trade-off between dealing with their time restrictions if they're a mother and dealing with their excessive demands and expectations if they're not.

I've been the childless man who has been looking to spend a decent amount of time with a woman and create a girlfriend relationship. In the past, I had openness to cohabitation or marriage but not in recent years. I've been less of a casual relationship guy. That's why I have favored the childless woman. It's still possible to have an extended girlfriend relationship and not cohabit or marry. The cohabit or marriage topic doesn't really become relevant until a much later in an interaction.

A lot of men in their 30s have a time opening for a girlfriend since they can't rely upon their male connections. Most unattached/marginally attached men in their 30s and even 40s have male friends/acquaintances who are mainly married/cohabiting. Married men and cohabiting men don't tend to spend a lot of time with the childless male who is unattached and/or keeps their typical romantic relationship under 2-3 years. The married men are occupied with their suburban house maintenanace, the dogs, and the children if they have them. The never married, childless man who lives in a rental property can't relate to most of that.

Unlike never married-childless women renters, never-married childless men renters don't acquire pets at the same rate.

It seems to me that you're dealing with a specific type of single mom when you deal with single moms. You're not dealing with the mainly Black and Hispanic single moms living in impoverished neighborhoods who are government assistance parasites. You're dealing with the @BeExcellent type of single mom who is middle class or higher. You're dealing with the single mom who is able to support herself without government assistance and usually has a beta male ex-husband who is paying her child support, sometimes alimony, and is active in the child's life. The mainly minority women single mothers in impoverished neighborhoods have baby daddies who are tattooed dirtbags, mainly absent from their children's lives, and deadbeats who aren't paying child support. That's a different type of single mom.

I would be conversationally challenged in a lot of ways with single moms, even in a casual arrangement. I can't relate to that lifestyle at all. I don't care about what little Janie and Johnny are doing. I can likely get through it, but I am still more able to relate to a childless woman in terms of lifestyle.

You're correct that childless women in their 30s/40s often have excessive demands and expectations. I've seen it in my dealings with childless 30 something women in recent years. For 30 something childless single women, one might think that they'd reduce their demands to offset a decline in their looks. They don't. A childless 35 year old woman is just as demanding as a childless 25 year old. In certain ways, they are even more fussy. The in-shape childless 30-35 year olds are prone to as much early stage flaking as their younger counterparts.

I don't deal with the time restrictions well based on what I desire. I can see how a guy who wants a casual relationship could handle that if he's spinning multiple plates. I would find the coordination of logistics with a single mom difficult in a lot of cases.

This is silly.

It's perfectly normal for a woman to ask if you have a dog, when you are petting hers.

Analogous example. I love certain motorcycles. Occasionally, I'll see one I like and go over and take a closer look at it and ask the owner about it. What would you think his natural question to me might be?

Come on man.

Missed the page to the thread, lol. Just to help guys understand, nobody pays me alimony or child support. I, as the sole breadwinner for the family was the spouse at risk for divorce rape. Fortunately I recognized that and negotiated out of my marriage financially intact and for less than $2K total out of pocket…which any divorced man around here will tell you is impressive for anyone who has a 7 figure net worth.

So I am a different type single mom than either the low income mothers in the hood with baby daddies, and also a different type than the suburban divorcees getting child support & alimony. Frankly many low income mothers in the hood keep having kids because their subsidies increase with additional children. They get HUD housing, per child government assistance, and often drive a nicer car than many middle income earners. I’ve had the single moms with the Escalade from government housing in the hood apply for housing from me. Meanwhile if I lost my income there exists no safety net for me, zero, nada. I’m “rich”. Ha! Not really but there are women who play men, and women who play the system. I am neither. And I don’t have pets. I have teens & am too busy for pets. I like animals & animals like me but I do not like the mess, the hair or the damage inside the house that comes with pets. We had retrievers growing up. They were hunting dogs and lived outside.

This question is simply making conversation. Like Atom said y’all are WAYYY over thinking this.

That's cool.

That was a part of my point earlier in the thread.

That adds something to the conversation. With a 7 figure net worth, you're in a solid financial spot. I would say that your net worth would be your safety net for your income in the case of an income loss.

I see you not owning a pet as somewhat of a function of your age. You're a Generation X'er and on the early side of Generation X. It was not until the Millennial generation became adults in the mid to late 2000s that unmarried women were big time acquirers of pets. The women born between 1982-1985 were the women who drove the development of the trend. Now, a large percentage of women who are either unattached or marginally attached have at least one pet. Millennial women have been known for growing the popularity of pets and tattoos.
