anywayz, about shaping your body... it actually depends on two things : working out AND eating correct. If you don't have a LOT of time (hey, who does right ?) you could try the body for life program. Wich is one day of weight training (45 mins.), next day interval cardio (20 mins)... If you'r serious about changing your appearance i strongly suggest this book (body for life - author : bill philips). It explains how to workout and what foods are good, really simple and it's written for beginners.
As far as what works :
Creatine : this is a VERY powerfull supplement for gaining lean mass, it volumizes muscle cells. If you want to gain mass fast, this is really a MUST. You'll notice much harder pumps after a few days, you'll see yourself grow fast (wich gets you motivated even more). PS: this is not an anabolic for those of you who don't have a clue
