Unreal. I don't think I've ever heard of an 8.9 scale earthquake happening in recent times. Even though my death would be assured, I would love to see what it looks like to have a gigantic wave barreling towards me.

If you see the videos it's completely insane.....like watching a disaster movie. I remember when I was younger I used to play with toys in my bathtub---that's exactly what this looks like.
WhiteP!mp I think this is supposed to be 7th or something in the world's most historically powerful earthquakes. I'm very intereseted in seeing how this will affect Hawaii and other Pacific parts of the U.S.

What happened to japan is nothing. While the quake is huge their buildings were made to survive earthquakes.
What's really going to be bad is the "big one" in california. They haven't done jack to prepare and their buildings are nowhere near earthquake proof as japans.

Prior to quake yen was most stable and attracted investors. Now, watch for USD to rise in value and people invest in it. I can see the dollar go up in value a bit. As far as red cross goes, do not give them your money, they love to steal. After 9/11 American Red Cross collected $564 million, and only $154 were ever distributed. After 1989 San Francisco quake Red Cross passed on only $10 million of the $50 million that have been raised.... Don't let yourself be taken advantage of by crooks disguised under humanitarian umbrella. Don't worry either, Japan is rich nation. Though if you still want to donate you better dig and find a Japanese organization that accepts donations for this cause.

The Red Cross is a very busy organization and they do work everywhere. It's possible some of the funds were used in other regions. We can only know for sure by looking at their finances. Thanks to regulations, they have to use GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) so it would be difficult to cook the books and get away with fraud.
