IS squatting a good exericse?

I've seen some martial art classes, and the student hav to squat alot. You know, knee bent, back straight? I tried it and i can barely last a minute. The people in the martial art classes can do for a long amount of time.

What good does squatting gives you? I think it nothings but I my legs tired.

here's my extremely unqualified opinion.
if it's making your muscles sore it's probably doing some form of damage to your muscles which in turn will make them grow.
standard squats of course will do this much better as you are adding weight and using a larger range of motion.

Actually, this is one of the best straight forward answers you can get. Very pragmatic.


Squatting helps your core. And releases huge amounts of test.

Right now I'm avoiding squats because my right ankle makes cracking sounds whenever I lift back up from the squat. It also makes these sounds when I'm twirling it to stretch it, and when i walk down the stairs....any insights on what is wrong with my ankle?

DOMS (Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness) has NOTHING to do with muscle growth. You don't need to get sore in order to grow.

Squats, together with deadlifts, is one of the most fundamental excersise you can do. It promotes general overall growth.

Squats suck.

Don't even go to parallel, otherwise it puts too much of a strain on your lower body which could result in permanent disfiguration and paralysis.

Stick to jogging to build up your quads.

He's talking about particular stance in most martial arts where you sit at lowered squatting position (without weights) for longer periods of time. As I understood it. By making squats and building your muscle surely will help you to carry your own mass. But by training in that particular postion you wont grow your muscles beyond certain point but it'll help your muscles to handle soreness (dunno the eng. word, milk acids?)

Hey Warboss this isn't the first time you have made sarcastic retorts to a newbie type post.

If you think you are so much smarter than most of the other posters here, why bother hanging out on this board?

This isn't a bodybuilding board. Most of the guys are here to improve their game with women.

Maybe you need to spend your time hanging out on bodybuilding forums where people are more knowledgeable. And then you won't be bothered by these types of posts.

Anyone that takes their wieghtlifting information from a single post such as this isn't gonna go anywhere, and it's not worth anything anyway, so it's not harming anything.

Besides, squats do suck. Give me a dumbell kickback anyday.

Why not? He does it all the time. If he thinks that posters on this board are not smart enough, he doesn't have to stick around here.

Beginners ask dumb questions sometimes. So? It is not like we were all born with knowledge of exercise techniques.

Stupid, sarcastic posts like his only discourage beginners who might need help.

Most of the guys come to this board to learn to pick up girls. They are not exercise gurus like Warboss obviously is. If he doesn't like these questions then he needn't post on this board. That is all I am saying.

Decided to finally enter my contest? I am proud of you semag.

I did pong squats today with my friends. When you reach paralell the other person go "pong" like a beeping machine,. it was good... I managed to put up a solid 135 pound squat for three reps.

At the same time I dropped a 66 lbs db and squashed my finger between it and another dumbell. That ****ing hurted! Good luck I was still able to perform crucial exercises like kickbacks

Squats are one of the best exercises you can do! A strong base (legs) makes your whole body stronger.

Actually, warboss IS one the smartest guys on the boards. When he is serious his advice is probably the best.

Not sure why he needs semag to defend him though.. Maybe a little kissykissy..who knows. kinda sweet though
