Remember this article I linked here a few months back? http://dating.personals.yahoo.com/singles/datingtips/55223/when-shes-hot-but-hes-not

The person writing the article even states, "I look around New York, and everywhere I see gorgeous women with only moderately attractive -- or even downright unattractive -- men. Even celebrity culture has these couples: Kate Hudson and (now ex) Chris Robinson, Billy Joel and any of his wives, the Barkers on MTV (although he seems sweet), Marilyn Manson and Dita Von Tesse."

So I'm obviously not the only one seeing these things. I don't know what bubble some of you people live in not to see this.

False logic, edger. That might be true, but it does not translate into "Good-looking guys are either dating their hands or ugly chicks". I don't know any good-looking guy who's desperate & dateless.

Edger...dressing like a heavy metal dude with unkept long hair is NOT attractive in places such as NY.

I have long hair, but it is not THAT long. And it is always trimmed.

Who said I had "unkept" hair?? I wash and comb my hair constantly.

Latinoman, the thing that's REALLY weird is that I don't even do well with the hot Metal or Goth chix either with my look, and these are women who are supposed to swoon over guys like me; guys of their own kind. Don't get me wrong, I DO on occassion attract hot Metal and goth women with my look, but most of the time I don't. I've spoken to other Metal as well as Goth guys about it, and they have complained of the same as well with statements such as, " The Metal and Goth chix put out no vibes, they'll pass you right up without even looking your way, they're like cold-fish".

Hey Desdinova, I know you've got long hair, but do you dress Metal? If you do, I'd like to hear some of your imput on this.

by the way Latinoman, how "long" is your hair? What's your definition of long hair? I don't even really consider shoulder length hair "long".

Latinoman, also, the thing you gotta understand about the hot Metal and Goth chix, is that 98% of them are literal groupies who will not pay you any attention unless you're in a band.

I consider my hair short when it is only shoulder length.

There seems to be this general perception that long hair on men is somehow less classy or whatever than short haired men. Of course this is all crap. Women love guys with long hair, even conservative ones that marry short haired, suit wearing dorks.

Women are and always have been most attracted to men who forge their own way rather than just doing what everyone else is doing. These days you get guys keeping their hair short or even shaving their head bald because they succumb to the conformity that the US is so big on enforcing through pop culture, trying to be like everyone else.

The guys that just go, “screw that crap I’m going to look and dress however I want” that are most exciting to women.

If you're a guy with shoulder-length hair, your hair is long. No debate.

To the people who think this, little do they know or realize, that men for thousands of yrs have had long hair. At one time it was the "fad". It has been kept by Kings, Noblemen, Emperors, Presidents, etc. Only recently beginning aboout the early 1800's has "short hair" become the fad. For most civilizations, long hair has been the trend.

Hahaha, "suit wearing dorks". I've gotta say, EVERYTIME I wear a suit, I feel like a dork. My confidence level goes down, I feel weird. It's bad. When I'm all decked out in my regular Metal attire, my confidence level is at it's all time high.

And it's funny, cause I've said this before, I seem to attract your regular "trendy"/conservative chick more than I do the Metal and Goth chick. Strange. I guess it's true, opposites attract.

Yes, I've always said this. Showing you "don't give a f*ck what people think of your look", is a sign of confidence. And women pick up on it. Guys who give a f*ck what others think(especially the ones who care what women think) have no balls.

This is going over the top. So having long hair is this massive display of rebellious nature?
Short hair is associated with masculinity, since roman times. The reason is that because in man to man combat short hair gives you an advantage over a long haired opponent (you can grab him, he can't grab you) having short hair is a characteristic of men who have been in the army and thus are quite masculine. Very short hair is to this day is indication (not proof) of military service or prison time, two very manly activities.
Long hair belongs more to femininity because it requires more care and hinders vision somewhat, something a man doesn't need.
These are not boundaries set in stone but, to be sure, long hare doesn't make you frikin’Conan.

Who said that? I keep my hair long soley because I like the look, I think it's a cool, edgy look. It has sex appeal.

That's why the Visigoth Vikings sacked Rome sometime around 800 A.D.(not sure of the exact year) And not only did they(the Vikings) have long hair, but beards as well that could be grabbed.

You're right though, long hair makes it more difficult to fight, and I don't know how the Germanic tribes of Europe(Vikings) were so victorious in many of their battles. Not only have the Vikings been victorious, but many of the other long-haired civilizations as well. The Native Americans and ancient Greeks are another example.

Short hair is not the only variable. For your Viking predations there are tenfold roman victories. Germanic tribes were never completely conquered, but they hardly defeated romans. Most of their fights were between tribes. But this is irrelevant.
Join the army today, annywere on the planet, and they will trim your hair. It make sense.

What I don't agree with is this ideea that long hair equals going against the current. It's not that hard to grow long hair, or have tatoos, or wear black lipstick, and all sorts of people do it. Being a rebel is much more dangerous, and far less romantic.

Bottom line: do not equate your looks with your persona. That is shallow (truism, I know).

Sh1t, dude. It's surely not a turning point in battle that is going to change the direction of civilization.

And the roman empire was barely anything by 800 a.d. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decline_of_the_Roman_Empire The empire itself was gone btw. 400-500 a.d.

It is hard to find somebody that has hair that looks like mine as my hair.

If it is semi-wet or if I used a conditioner (not just shampoo)...it could look like this guy from the movie "Unfaithful" (that's what I am told, so I did a google search on that movie):

But a little more curly and with slightly more body. I don't know...but that's LONG in my eyes.

To you and edger...if you have long hair (as defined by me)...and you dress like a person that is in a Rock band or a biker...how "interesting" is that for women? You are one of the bunch.

Now...if you have long hair (like mine) and wear an European Suit and Italian shoes to go to work...and work around men that have short hair and are very conservative...then you will look DIFFERENT. You will look INTERESTING. You will look REBELIOUS and ADVENTUROUS.

Edger...give this a try...cut your hair a little shorter (shoulder lenght...maybe an inch below shoulder). And then wear both: suits for work...and Heavy Metal for your clubbing.

You are going to see a huge difference...as the Metal girls are going to dig you too.

I've cut my hair twice in the past, both times to about chin length, and I got no more "vibes" from hotties than I did when it was long. I cut it for the same reason you suggest, to see if it would help me with women. It didn't do a thing. This dude I know in the club scene cut his hair about 6 months ago to his shoulders, kinda like an EMO cut. I asked him if he's noticed a difference, if he's getting more "vibes" from chix, and he said it's remained the same, nothing's changed. And like I've said, and it's the total truth that I bear witness to...the majority of hot women I see are with below avg. looking men, many times who look like slobs on top of it. Even my friends say it, cousin, and everyone else I talk to. Even my mom says it. Everyone except a handful of you guys on here it seems, lol.

So based on what I've experienced with cutting my hair, and based on how I'm seeing most hot women coupled with below avg. looking guys, cutting my hair is out of the equation. I used to think looks mattered, put sooo much effort into my looks(still do, but for MYSELF now), only to end up disappointed when my looks had done nothing for me. Like I said, those of you who disagree with me on here, have all had different experiences and have seen different things..and I believe you..but from what I've seen and experienced with the female gender, has been different.

Most importantly, I love my hair(it's like another limb to me), like I said, it's a cool look that has an edge. It has sex appeal. Plus, I'm a Metal musician(who's currently still on the prowl for another band), which means I should keep it real. Metal musicians have always been notorious for the "long hair", they have kept it real.

I appreciate your willingness to help though Latinoman ;)

I have to ask, where are you seeing this phenomenon? I almost never witness really attractive women with "below average" guys. I don't think heterosexual guys are able to see all the nuances that women find attractive in men, so we aren't the best judges, but I think I'm a good judge of below average to average.

Anytime I see some large imbalance in appearance there's usually something else like "money/status" involved.
