Alright, im getting pretty frustrated with my acne. Im not an impatient person at all. As a matter of fact, ive battled patiently for over 2 years with acne! Ive used many different products, (giving each of them plenty of time for them to become effective)and I have even gotten ClearLight treatments. But still, i have acne. I guess my acne is a bit better, but i still have enough that it pisses me off. I also have scars from previous acne, so parts of my cheeks are red. I know confidence comes from within blah blah but that still doesnt mean i cant be frustrated with my acne.

Im almost 18 for christs sake, i thought acne was something you get when your 13-16 and i thought it would die down by the time i turn 18. Ive done almost everything except Accutane (which i really really dont want to do), and still im still getting acne. I really really hope i dont have acne when im in college or an adult. I didnt mind getting acne, i knew it was a minor setback, but i told myself i would dela with it and soon enough, it would all be gone. I wasnt surprised that i got acne, but ive experienced Acne for so long and ive done so much and have been consistent with my cleaning routines (but i dont overdo it). Can someone help me out with suggestions/confidence boosters?

you're only 18 and you're already whining? Geez...

Anyhow, I do have a suggestion. Try liquid vitamins. I think they are definitely better than regular vitamins. (I guess because they absorb better) While it won't probably make an enormously gigantic difference, but i think you might see a noticeable difference with your acne, as I have. Here is what I use:

Mega Vita Liquid, from Vitamin World

http://www.vitaminworld.com/pages/file.asp?xs=594884A00C6545798412E9C1EC482499&PID=65&np=0

It's not too expensive, about $17 and it lasts about a month. I think it's definitely worth it.

Give it a try

Brak86, I feel for you man. I'm still battling acne right now at age 18. I too am hesitant about trying accutane because of all the side effects. I started getting acne at 15 yrs. old and my parents always told me that it'd be gone within a year or two. They told me that every kid goes through it.

I've done everything that I can, I wash my face twice a day, I'm on antibiotics, and I've even cut certain foods out of my diet (greasy stuff like french fries, soda pop, anything with tons of sugar). My face doesn't look bad at all, in fact my acne's mild right now. But every two weeks or so I have another breakout.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though, I know plenty of guys who have mild to moderate acne and are still pulling in girls.

Sometimes, just gotta roll with the punches - everyone gets it differently.

I know people that still have it, well into their 30s'. The concept that it comes for a year or so is largely a myth.

Yeah I'm 20 and still battling acne. I just take pills for them now but it's not enough to get rid of all of the little scars I still have on my face.

i used to have acne, but i took accutane. it was ****ing amazing. the only bad side effect i had was dry lips, but some chap stick took care of that. I've been acne free for over 9 months now and I'm extremely happy to have taken it.

But kiz, people have incredibly varied responses to it.

We need to know exactly what your skin type was, and how badly it was affected.

How many mg of it were you on?

21 and still battling with acne..
started comign at about 17, used clearasil.. got nowhere.. i guess about 19 i thought, alright **** this it aint going away, went to doctors..
they gave me about 5 different types of drugs none of which worked especially well..

enter RoAccutane.
awesome.
first 2 weeks u get REALLY bad acne, but then it starts getting better and better..

side effects i experienced.. REALLY dry lips, to the point that i was carrying around lip balm at all times, and had to apply every 2-3 hours to keep my lips at the normal level. overnight they'd dry completey out, but feel better after a little lip balm.
later my skin started drying out a bit, but no worries, a little moisturiser every few days..

and right at the end of my treatment my nose would bleed, that was due to the oil not keeping the thin skin in my nose moist.. it would come on from nothing.. but the dermatologist gave me some "nose oil" cleared that straight up..

so worth it..

my skin looked like i'd never had a pimple..

after being off RoAccutane for 6-9 months, my pimples began returning, and right now, i am getting quite alot..
i've started using differn cream which has some roaccutane ingrediants in it, and it seems to be helping..
i'll be seeing my dermotologist at the end of this month and try to get on roaccutane again. i assume that 4-6 months of further treatment, then the 6-9 months that i'll stay pimple free for should be able to beat acne for good as i'd be 22 and have had acne for about 5 years..

- i did not ever feel depressed or suicidal.

Nice, thanx for the insight.

Seems to run in our family, so I never figured it worth waiting for it to go away.

I found that a strict regime for me worked... gym 3 times a week, showers straight after ANY sweat inducing activity.

Where I can, I avoid bread, wheat, margarine, and anything with sugar, preservatives, hydrogenated oils, or colours.

I also wash with cetaphil soap and use Benzoyl Peroxide 5%. Used to use topical retinae before bed, also.

It usually looks great if I stick to this, but many a time ive lapsed (easily done) and been tempted to jump on the accutaine after the consequences.

I'm 26 and still struggle with my complexion. I ifind that using Oxypads throughout the day, and then Clearisil before bed, helps a lot. I don't think I'll ever completely solve it, but I've minimized it and think I look good.

dude you have to understand that there is a difference between whining and expressing ones emotions. I will not deny my frustration towards my acne, but instead of holding it inside me where it will just fester and hurt me more, i decide to bring it out to you all. It helps me and makes me less frustrated when i express it to other people. There is a fine line between whining and expressing ones frustration, but i am trying to be a more open person. Girls are naturally better at this, but i am learning how to "speak my feelings" more. My post also was intended to maybe get more solutions/suggestions that i might have never had heard of.

you might want to consider "clean and clear pore cleanser" From my experience it works pretty good and doesnt overdry the skin. it does clean out the oils/dirt from your pores cause it uses micro-beads.

i started having acne around 13 up until 17-18 age. and my acne wasnt the normal type, there were outbreaks everywhere. But since then i have been using this acne cleanser and my face has been pretty clear from acne usually.

im almost certain acne is caused by testosterone levels.

just give your body time, when the time comes it should go away for the most part. acne can also be caused by bad hygiene, pillow case, hair, hands touching, dirt, etc.

Don't take things personally. A real man would not have taken that remark personally. I think taking things personally is a sign of weakness (not alpha-male like). Sometimes you need to just smile and have comments like that bounce right off you. Take it from me who spent a month on a fishing boat on the Alaskan waters with a tough-ass captain (undeniably alpha-male) who made teasing comments like that ALL the time 24/7. I'll be candid with you, there were a couple times where I cried like a little wussy because I couldn't handle the constant teasing, but once it was over, it was like I got a much needed injection of testosterone into my veins. What i'm saying is: toughen up a little and don't take things too personally.

I have nothing against you speaking your feelings, but I hope you're not speaking too much about them to any girl. (from what I gathered from the rest of this site, it's not a good thing). I suppose if you need to let it out, better to do it here.

I'm curious to how bad you're acne is. I know mine isn't that bad, I sometimes get painful ones on my cheek, which is a drag. It sounds like you don't have it terribly bad . I was looking around and found some interesting photos of acne. After seeing them, I just have to thank God that I have it so easy. Check this out.

As for you're acne, don't give up and keep searching for solutions. Good luck!

o by no means did i take your reply personally....i just wanted to let you know that i wasnt tryin to be a whiner, i just wanted to speak out my frustration and the fact that im just starting to understand that the myth about acne going away after the teenage years is false.

I've been on every prescription acne drug on the market. Accutane cleared me up, but the acne did come back just not as bad.

Anyways right now I'm taking an antibiotic Bactrim, and I am washing my face with just water in the morning and at night. I figure I do not need to wash my face with anti-bacterial soaps, as the Bactrim takes care of the bacteria.. so the only thing I worry about is all the excess oil on my face. Face washes dry your face out temporarily (even mild ones) and your body counteracts by producing more oil. Just washing your face with water is great if you are trying to get oil under control.

Anyways I am 95% clear and I don't have any redness or tight skin. I suggest you try this because less is usually more when it comes to skin.

Easy as 1...2......3!!!

1. Proactiv at night and after school......says to use throughout the day but, i go to school and you can kinda see it.

2. Clearsasil Ultra Daily face wash. Use it on your face right after you wash the proactiv off your face in the shower or whatever. Makes ur face silky smooove.

3.Clean N Clear Morning glow moisturizer. Use in morning in case ur face gets kinda dry. Actually helps ur face shine.

STAY AWAY FROM FRUIT DRINKS THAT DONT HAVE REAL FRUIT JUICE IN IT!!YOULL HAVE BREAKOUTS NONSTOP IF YOU DO. also other foods and drinks such as milk or any dairy products can produce acne, but if you stick to the plan I gave you I guarantee most of you wont have pimples and all of you will have very few.

Also the story about the sun helping ur acne is a total myth, it actually worsens ur acne becuase your face has to produce more oil to keep face from drying out. Use Spf15 suncreen when out for more than 15minutes.

Always take 2 showers a day!!!!

PS......If the Proactiv starts really drying out ur face then use the first Benzoyl Peroxide only on weekends.
