Any tips for beginners? Starting points?
I never took any lessons. I just practiced a lot when I was a teenager. The way I learned was to sing along with songs and try making my voice and the voice on the recording sound 'as one' or 'in sync'. When you do that, you're hitting the notes dead on. Use songs where the singer holds the notes for a long period of time. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is a good example.

When I get bored at karaoke bars, I'll do 5hit just for the challenge. I can pull off Annie Lennox not bad, and I wish they had Elle King's "Under The Influence" so I could attempt that one.

I've got a range of 3 or 4 octaves. I'll sing Bon Jovi, Led Zeppelin, and then do some fvcking Johnny Cash.
Mine may not be much past 3 octaves, but yes, I used to do stuff like that when I played an acoustic solo act. I could flip from Joan Osborne or Sheryl Crow right into Neil Diamond. It always made people laugh, but in a good way.
